USCC got rid of a nice phone...

I just talked to my USCC rep, and asked him about the LG 5550 phones, I seen they are no longer on the website, and he didnt have any. He said they discontinued that phone, and he has been trying to get them, but every supplier he has is out of them.

That is a nice phone, I am glad I got one when I did. I dont know why, but when carriers get nice phones that work, they get rid of them. That phone is a nice basic easy to use tri-mode phone, I guess the cellular market cant have these phones out anymore, we have to have ones that do everything for us, someday, maybe they will drive our cars for us.

Anyway, to bad they got rid of that phone, to those of you out there that are looking at signing up with USCC, if you can find the LG 5550...

I just bought an LG VX6100.....I'm not sure what features you liked in the 5550, but this one is really nice. The camera is not something I needed, but I find I use it a lot for spur of the moment stuff. This is my first LG and I am very impressed. Maybe try the 6100??

the point is the 5550 has no camera and is a good phone, if you dont want the camera or need it, why get it??? What is it with cellular companies forcing these camera phones down our throats. Keep the 5550 for those of us that want a basic phone, that works.

Why do car companies sell cars with CD players in them? When all some people need is an FM radio?
It's plain and simple...The trends for the majority of people in the market for cellular service WANT the extra feature. That means with the cellular industry, if more people want Camera Phones, then there are going to be more camera phones produced.
Besides, the cost of producing a camera phone is a lot less expensive now than it was even two years ago. There is so much competition between companies who produce them that the prices have dropped considerably. There are Cellular providers out there that will sell you a camera phone when you activate for the same amount of money as one without. Why not "Up-Size" for free if you can?

A few points in response to your message

1. USCC did not get rid of it, LG did
2. I would have agreed with you when we had first gotten the phone. I loved it. Customers loved it. It had great features. Lately, however, we've had lots of problems and customers have been coming back saying they don't like it, or have reception problems.

I don't know if it was a different software version or what, because they used to be great. Now, however... well I'm not going to miss it. If you liked the 5550 then the 6100 will meet all your needs with more features to spare!

well, I hope USCC is willing to stand behind the phones they offer, after all, they test them over and over to make sure they will work, that is what I read on this forum, that USCC wont release a phone till they are certain that it will work for their network. Verizon has an exchange program when a phone breaks down in the year warranty, they dont have to do it for the customers, but they do, it is customer service... I sure hope USCC has the same program, sending it in is not the answer I want to hear, so I can pay for service that I cant use while my phone is in the mail.....

it seems to me that you like to bitch about everything. 😳

Although it may be more convenient for you to do an in store exchange for a phone, the fact remains that your warranty is offered under the phones manufacturer, not US Cellular. They really wouldn't need to give you a loaner at all or send in your phone for you.

So to answer your question, no US Cellular does not typically do an in store exchange after the 30 day guarantee, but does offer other options to help you out as a customer; so deal with it. πŸ˜›

As for your original complaint about the removal of the 5550, well like justpeachy said, it was LG that pulled the phone, not US Cellular, so you can stop blaming the carrier for everything. And just because you may not ...

It was not LG that pulled the phone, it was US Cellular.....I emailed LG and asked them why, and they responded that US Cellular requested the phone be pulled, as that is how they do it......

Dear Todd,

Thank you for inquiring of LG Electronics.

LG discontinues our phones only when requested to do so by the service provider that carried the phone. The LX/VX5550 was discontinued per US Cellular's request.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any additional questions or concerns. Thank you again for contacting LG Electronics.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the LX5550, but after a year of selling the phone, it was time to let it go. It is time for USCC to move on and pick up something new.

Now if they'd just let that freaking Phantom die...

its probably because of the other LG's in testing, i have a 5550 and like it a lot, the speaker is way better than the 6100, but it happens. if mine breaks i wont let the insurance company give me a different phone or i will buy one used from my boss.

Well, I was just pointing out that USCC has a great phone offered for the people that dont want the bells and whistles, and now they are pulling it off the shelves, then one person took offense to it and stated that it was not USCC that pulled the phone, it was LG.

So, I emailed LG and asked them why they are getting rid of a nice phone, and they replied as I expected in the first place, that they do not pull the phones, the carrier does, and that USCC had requested us to pull the phone. So, the so said rep was wrong, so eithe USCC is telling their reps to state LG gets rid of the phones, or they dont know. Dont matter, because the email I received is posted above.

I dont want to get that guy wound up again thinking that I am "b-tchi...

probably because there are so many new lg's being tested y us cellular, i like the phone, i have one myself but lg's unwavering position about replacing with refurbished units not repairing them is driving me crazy and my LG 5550 is having the beginning symptoms of charging failure which means i will loose about 100 worth of data charges and downloading fees paid over time to get the ringtones i have on my phone. and since no independant software programmer is going to waste their time programming the ability to make and transfer user made ringtones since it is a phone only made for 2 carriers. it will be awesome though when i can put anything i want on it with my data cable.

Here is a story on a loaner phone, that makes the idea of a loaner phone a joke..

I talked to a friend that had to have their phone sent in to be fixed, got a loaner from the dealer, now, here is the joke, the loaner did not have a charger cord 😲 😳 😑

I guess as long as you dont run the battery down, you are ok....LOL 🀣

When LG made this phone, there was a fairly large batch of phone that made it to market with defective earpieces and screens. The phones were concentrated in Oklahoma, but the LG brand took a pretty good hit because of their mistake. As a result, the phone was discontinued.

yeah all of the 1st batch were bad but the ones after it seemed to work great, although i have had mine replaced 2 times and i may be looking at a 3rd comming up here, i still love the phone and the replacement policy would be great if i could figure out how to back everything up with a data cable and make my own ringtones.

Replacement policy??? πŸ˜•

everyone here says there is no replacement policy with USCC, that is between the customer and the manufacturer, USCC may give a loaner, but, that is it, how are you getting a replacement phone....??? 😳

Well, anyway, the fact is, USCC requested that they dont carry the 5550 not Lg discontinuing it. I wish they would carry the phone so other people can get them.

In response to the other post as LG made a bad name for itself with a bad batch of phones is misleading, there is not a company out there that does not release bad phones, Motorola being at the top of the list there. I have had 3 different versions of LG and have not had a bad phone yet, they are awesome, Motorola, I have not found a good phone fr...

What is wrong with you? Did you hear that they made a "BAD BATCH" not a "BAD PHONE"? Not every company makes good phones as you pointed out, but sometimes companies get "Bunk" (bad) parts and produce phones with those parts. Ever heard of the Sony Playstation? When they first released that product a majority of them had bad parts and they had to honor a replacement through Sony to get a new one with good parts.

When the term, "REPLACEMENT PHONE" is used above, I do not believe it was stated that they got the replacement directly from USCC. You just assume that adn try to make it look like someoen is lying to you. Remember the statement from a while back that said the replacement is given from LG instead of repairing it?

I will admit that I really like lg's all around, I think they are the easiest phone to use, but the 5550 is probably the worst performing phone I have ever seen. The bad batch that some of you talk about is huge (in volume) phones are being otc'd every day. I work in a retail store and my tech kept track, and in the last week he did 13 otc's for 5550's alone.

I have had customers come in for their 4th or even 5th time needing replacements.

Now as for the subject of who stopped the phone from being sold by USCC I don’t know, I don’t really think that LG would open up any type of info like that to the public, cause if is not good business, and it is passing blame.

And as for the guy who says uscc has no part in fixing the 5550 ...

Nice reply, you took the time to explain some things instead of just calling names, great job.... πŸ™‚

The only thing I can disagree with you on is that Lg would not open up any information like that to the public, I dont know, but, they did. I still have the email from them, all I did was copy and paste the reply they sent to me. The only thing I can think of is phone manufacturer's get tired of cellular companies blaming the phone manufacturer for eliminating the phone, and on top of that, I really dont think that kind of information is privileged information.

But, anyway, thank you for a good response.

Oh, on the verizon part, giving out refurbished phones, basically, that is just about the same as getting the one I have fixed...

Thanks, but for the Verizon thing i mean that when a phone is not working my experience is that they tell the customer to BUY a refurbished phone. My GF's sister's 731 was buzzing and she went to the store. the reps would not even look at the phone they just told her that she had to buy one for $80 and it would be refurbished. it was out of warrenty, but she brought it to me and all i did was take the battery out and put it back in. there was just a glitch in the phone, but it could have cost her an uncalled for $80 for no reason. Just a bit of info, and it could have just been that store i dont know.

yeah, agree on that. I have only had problems with one of my phones, and it was under warranty, so they exchanged it with a refurb, but, that was ok since it basically is the same as what I would have if they fixed the one I had, in my opinion. But, in your case, the fix was simple, and they should have tried that, all the verizon reps I have talked to have always said to try to remove the battery and see what happens, sounds like your GF found a bad rep, looking to line his pocket with the comission. But, if the phone was indeed not fixable that way, and out of warranty, and you are not eligible for a new phone under contract, I think that being offered a refurb phone for $80 is reasonable and a good deal for the customer. I dont know i...
