Warranty "Upgrade" Rumor

I was in getting my PPC 6800 first activated a few weeks ago(I had bought it used), and in talking to the rep who was changing my account, he dropped the hint that supposedly, if you have insurance and file a claim on the PPC6800, it gets replaced with a Touch Pro. According to him, he had heard of a few people who were taking advantage of that. However, reading here, I see people getting given credits to use toward buying a phone at full retail from USCC for a discontinued phone. Can somebody either confirm or debunk what I was told?

This can be very misleading. You only get upgraded to the Touch Pro if the insurance doesn't have the PPC 6800 available. In most cases, the insurance will replace your phone with the same make and model. Also, insurance has been offering a reimbursement option to those customers who had the misfortune of buying one of the several phones US Cellular has discontinued. It is not full reimbursement, and you would still be responsible for the insurance deductible.

Who were "taking advantage of that". You mean committing insurance fraud. It's people like you show drive up the costs of deductibles!

I don't know for sure of "taking advantage of" was the right wording based on what I had heard. Basically, what I was told was that he had gotten a few reports of people who had found out that their insurance claim for their PPC6800 was getting replaced with a Touch Pro. Whether they found it out when they sent in their phone, or heard it from someone else and claimed "lost" to get the upgrade, I don't know...

That aside, as Whitehores mentioned, the deductable on the insurance has been $50 almost forever. I even believe it was the same with my previous carrier when living in MI.
