Questions Regarding U.S. Cellular

Hello,

I currently work for Alltel and I have a feeling that U.S. Cellular will be the carrier that ultimately purchases the VZW/Alltel divested markets.

A lot of other's I talk to have a feeling (more so a hope), that AT&T will purchase the divested markets. All I've heard is that U.S. Cellular would be the front runner so I'm interested in knowing what it's like to work for U.S. Cellular.

Any information that anyone can provide on working for U.S. Cellular and/or the thoughts on them purchasing the VZW/Alltel divested markets would be appreciated. Thank you.

working for U.S. cellular has been a really nice experience for me. communication throughout the company is top notch. any time a higher end position is filled everyone within the company is notified. all associates reciece multiple e-mails from the CEO of USCC in regards to economy, marketing etc. i cant think of another company where the CEO takes the time to notify his associates in this manner. everyone hired through US cellular goes through a rigorous hiring process to assure we always hire the best of the best. within the store, we have a diverse team that really works well together. leadership is friendly and effective within the store. basically what i mean by all this is that as an emp;oyee, i'm always up to speed on whats g...

Lowell McAdam and other officers within Verizon send regular emails out all the time.

How many carriers have you worked for?

What exactly is a "divested market"... Sorry if I sound stupid, but just started working for USCC. What would that mean for USCC?

a divested market i believe is a market that both verizon and alltel had at the same location, due to FCC BS, u cannot own the same spectrum in the same area, so it must be DIVESTED or SOLD, to another carrier.

it means we sold it to another carrier but we used to own it and operate in it; such as south texas, FL, GA, ID.

James, that's a great question. In areas where Verizon and Altell coverage overlap and they are the main two carriers, the FCC (Federal Communications Committee and the DOJ (Dept of Justice) make them sell all the spectrum of one of the carriers. It's not "FCC BS", it has to do with competition and preventing a monopoly for the area. If Verizon were allowed to keep Altell's spectrum and their own, they would have just that. Customers would not have a choice, and Verizon could charge whatever they want. The also don't have they option to sell off just the duplicated spectrum, but all spectrum of that particular carrier must be sold. Selling is accomplished through closed door agreements, and not auctions which happens when the spectrum i...
