U.S. Cellular Loss Customers Last Quarter

First time in the history of the company that they lost customers. Lets get real here USCC days are numbered. Its only a matter of time b4 they are bought. I had USCC they have great coverage and customer service but nothing else. People don't care about having coverage in remote areas and customer service, they want the coolest phones and features. You don't offer that....Get ready to be ATT or VZ..... Best of luck to you all

hopeful wishing. and bad information. we still have a positive churn which means we are brining in more new customers than we are losing and we still have the lowest churn in the industry.

Really???? Bad information??? Heres a quote from your out of touch CEO Jack

"We added 12,000 retail postpay customers in the quarter, fewer than we expected," continued Rooney, "which might be partly a result of the overall economic downturn. Foot traffic in our stores has slowed a bit, and we also had some losses in the prepaid customer segment, resulting in an overall net loss of customers.

Get YOUR facts straight.....

Ok that quote does not make sense. "We added 12,000 postpay customers..." and "had some losses in the prepaid segment..."

To me that sounds like good news. Postpaid is way more profitable that prepaid in the sheer fact that you have longevity.

To me 12,000 new Custys sounds like good progress!

Overall they lost customers...so they lost 15,000 pre paid but gained 12,000 post paid. You still are losing customers. Just face it this company is out of date and needs a buyer fast. The environment is just too competitive for them now....

OK, you knucklehead.

To competitive? Last I checked, they are turning a profit, just not as large as they had planned.

Imagine that you have 5 dimes and 5 quarters. you lose 3 dimes but now have 8 quarters. Which one is better?????

VZW can't. USCC make money. And the Carlson Family own most of USCC and TDS.

So, if I make 6 billion in revenue and make no debt. WHY WOULD I SELL THE COMPANY. One other thing. ATT and VZW in so much debt. They can't buy anybody else.

I wish people out their, that say "USCC will be bought out." Will not happen. So, stop saying it. And get a life. God!!!!!

Wow you guys drink the kool-aid. Look at USCC and TDS stock price in the past year. Don't you think it might be a smart business decision to sell while they still can get a good price. Face it pal, they can be bought and if someone makes an offer its up to the shareholders to decide. In the end they do whats best for the shareholders....

What don't we have thats so important

we've got:
EVDO
SOME OF THE LATEST AND GREATEST PHONES
BRAND NEW MOBILE INTERNET PACKAGES THAT ARE AMAZING FOR THE PRICE
MOBI-TV

I could go on and on with all the cool stuff we've gotten into lately

I just don't see a problem here..

oh yeah, and we don't charge for retarded things like incoming calls or voicemail. I love my job and I wouldn't dream of working for anyone but USCC in the cell phone biz

US CELLULAR IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE!!!! THE COMPANY IS IN FINE FINACIAL POSITION AND MAKE MORE PROFITS THAN MOST OTHER CARRIERS. NOR WILL USC BE SELLING THEIR COMPANY TO ANYONE ... THEY ARE GROWING AND SET HIGH STANDARDS AND DUE TO TOUGH ECONOMIC TIMES ALL AROUND.. DINDT MEET THAT QUOTA. AS AN INVESTOR USC IS ONE OF THE BEST TELECOM STOCKS TO BUY.. THEY HAVE LOW OVERHEAD BC THEY DONT GO INTO BIDDING WARS FOR EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS ON HANDSETS THEN PUSHING THOSE COST ON TO THE CUSTOMER...AND HAVE THE MOST SOUND BUSINESS PLAN OUT THERE.

Just because uscc is basically a regional carrier does not mean we aren't competitive.

all i know is us cellular just launched the North carolina market, and is planning on purchasing some more markets that are being divested from the alltel verizon merger.

if i company is in financial trouble, why would they be spending MORE money on markets? ya, uscellular is fine and if you dont like that we are making a name for ourselves, thats fine, any uscellular associate would know that our company is very conservative with their spending and we have people in upper management that know what is needed in these tough economic times,

uscellular will succeed, theres no doubt about that.

the trolls that are posting here just want to see us fail, but instead we will prevail.

At least it is deployed and with the merger of clearwire they are in more areas now. Also they are in 3 markets. And LTE is still in the lab. With deployment looking at 2010. I think wimax will be nationwide well before then.

Here is one link:
http://gigaom.com/2008/08/13/countdown-to-4g-whos-do ... »

"U.S. Cellular: The company is unsure of its deployment plans, but Mark Steinkrauss, a spokesman for the carrier, said it would likely choose to follow the rest of the industry with LTE. As for deployment, the time frame isn’t set. “Traditionally we have not been the first to roll out new technologies and would be more of a smart follower, carefully deploying the new technology to ensure that we always offer the very ...

And I am not saying its bad they don't have any plans. They don't' want to go into debt. I believe they operate debt free. So upgrading has always been slow for them. Its how they want to run. With now debt they can get more for the company if they were to sell. Which they will eventually.

So first you said they weren't upgrading, then you post a link that states what the likely upgrade plan will be, just without a time frame. You contradicted yourself.

dude you really need to stop worrying about us cellular and saying that we are going to go under after having one bad quarter. last i checked everbody is losing money.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/08/technology/08nexte ... »

why dont you read that little article and post a thread on sprints forum and tell them to start packing their bags.... we lost 15,000 customers apparently last quarter...sprint lost 1.3 MILLION IN ONE QUARTER. not a year but a quarter and had a net loss of 1.23 billion dollars from this time past yr to right now....
the new market in n.c. is going to expand us cellulars business and i wouldnt be surprised if more regional markets will be open in the next 2 years..

that's like comparing citbank or chase to a community bank. The loss in percentages probably is about the same for both Sprint and US cellular.

I liek USCC but they do have to roll out 3g but they are not willing to spend the money. So they are gambling. I think it will lose in the long run. We shall see.

Nov 22, 2008, 2:11 PM
It's roughly 2% compared to 1/4%

3G is up in Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison, Rockford, Des Moines and Tulsa now, with more markets coming in 2009. So they are willing to spend the money. They just spend it a little more carefully than the larger providers.

Ok US Cellular is fine.

Lets look at this from a step back.

Technology and Electronics sales have dropped causing subscriber rates and therefore revenue to decrease industry wide.

Motorola
LG
Nokia
Verizon
AT&T
Lavasoft
ect....

Why because consumer spending is decreasing therefore service and non necessities are being cut to save money as the economy tightens.

To judge the ability for a company like US Cellular to survive you must look at what they provide and how that fits now and in the future to its marketplace.

Plans - US cellular provides a product line that has more value then most carriers and provides wide variety of choices.

Phones - Slightly below industry avg. Have decreased the technology devi...

USCC has the others beat by letting customers change their plans at anytime.

so if a customer loses their job they can go to the lowest plan and drop all the features so that they can afford it. and they can still recieve calls from employers for interviews.(that is what a phone is for to recieve calls anyway) until they get back on their feet.

name another company that does that. they just rather you go default on your line so they can charge you an ETF and ruin your credit.

attkid, you obviously have a skewed point of view on the matter working for at&t....sorry not every company can be nationwide carriers like your baby, but regional carriers (like USC) have no lines of outstanding debt due to not buying things we can't afford (like EVDO networks)

wait until you get the money to buy your network build outs, and not have to buy out satellite television companies and 19 other providers to get your companies foundation up and running, and figure out why you'd sell a network that is still profitable year after year.

we're not sprint / nextel, we're not vzw or at&t, and last time i checked over 90% of the associates that work here dont worry about stuff like this for good reason
