Hi, I've been with US Cellular, since January of 2007. I renewed my contract in August, but I recently decided I want to go to another carrier, I really like U.S. Cellular I just think its time for a change, so I'm not dissing anyone who has U.S. Cellular, I want to leave on good terms just in case I ever want to return. So what is this i heard about prorated ETFs?? Will someone please explain this. Thanks.

The ETF fee will be prorated according to the amount of time remaining in your service agreement.

Call 611 on your US Cellular phone and talk to a customer service representative to discuss the details.

Why is it you are looking to switch carriers? Just curious.

Really, when did they implement the prorated ETF? I have never heard about it before.

Quite some time ago... Unfortunately Phonescoop and other media centers do not pay the smaller carrier as much attention as the other carriers (because we don't pay them).

I have pushed USC's PR team to start paying for editorial advertising for years but they don't get it.

Prorated ETF's were actually something that USC always had done when I started with USC in 2002 but they went to a straight break fee in 2004. Now they have brought it back but vry few know about it. If Verizon, ATT, Sprint or other larger carriers make that decision its a big deal.

Like VErizon advertising they now have Rhapsody Unlimited access for just $14.99 a month. USC has had Napster to Go Unlimited access for over a year for the same price, yet you have...

Okay thanks its no big deal, I don't mind paying the 150 dollars.

I just want to switch, because lately I've not been happy with U.S. Cellular, I want cooler phones to choose from, and better plans period, but I'm not dissing USCC in any way, I'm just not happy with them.

LOL, I forgot I was on his account, well on his lap top. "beyondmydestiny" is my room mate, he is also one of the reasons I'm leaving USCC.

I have USCC right now and i think I might switch to ATT where my mom and sister get their service from and considering it has better service in my town now. However, my contract is much older, renewed in April 2007. Would a prorated early termination fee apply to me or did this occur after my contract?

yes actually you should be fine since we renew your contracts everytime you come in the store. You should be able to be prorated now. Just figure out when you last made a change on your account and that would be your new contract start date.

Glad to help!

liar liar pants on fire.

unlike the other carriers USC will let you make all kinds of changes without renewing. the only time you have to resign is if you want a discount on a new phone. we are also more generous and it doesnt matter when you signed your contract as long as you are canceling after 8/10/08 your getting the prorated etf.
