ETF Question.....Bare with me...
Okay, my boyfriend is on his dads gf plan, and he just turned 18 a few months ago...but wants to get his own account in his own name and sign a 2yr contract himself....the contract on his dads gf account isn't up till april i think, and im not sure if hes on a family plan or not, but he doesn't wanna be on her account anymore and wants to get his own account and keep his number and upgrade to a new phone. If he cancels the line on her account, will he have to pay an ETF??
i know this sounds confusing, but im trying to explain it the best i can...lol

Actually you explained it perfectly, what you're going to do is a change of resonsiblity, They will check credit on your boyfriend to see if he requires a deposit, if he does he will have to put that down first. Then you have to get his dads gf and come in to sign a piece of paper releasing that number to your boyfriend and then thats it. All hes doing is taking that number off of that acct. and putting it on to a new one. No ETF at all. Now the upgrade could be a little tricky. Since he is keeping the same number, and he is not elgible to upgrade now, he has to wait until it is ready to upgrade.
All of this has to be done in store so make sure you go to your local rep. and they can take care of that for you.

Well he doesn't really have any credit established yet, so how would they determine how much a deposit would be?
I got us cellular when i turned 18 and didn't have to put in a deposit but that was like 2 years aqo when they had that just turn 18...no deposit or whatever.
do they still do that?

See my ETF post, if he is not on a text messing plan, you can claim material adverse change of contract.

He still hasn't gotten out of contract. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't without paying a termination fee.
...
in most markets, class X (no credit history) is granted with $0 Deposit...so yes, he can most likely do the change of responsibility with no early termination fee, no deposit, and no activation fee!
...
The universal deposit fee for people with no credit is $50. Since there is no credit history the company has no way of knowing if the cusatomer is a high risk or not
...
The credit classes vary by the market you are in. In the central region, both X (no credit) and K (very little credit) are $0 deposit.
