I hope a change is in the works by 2010...somewhat "long" rant...

Don’t' mind me I'm just another "thinker" or something.
Believe me I am HAPPY with U.S. Cellular.
I have been with 4 wireless companies: Nextel (before they were Sprint/Nextel), GTE Wireless (before they were Verizon), I-Wireless (a division of T-Mobile) and now U.S. Cellular.
In my opinion, USCC has the best coverage I have experienced and the best customer service among the other 3.
Like I said though I was with Nextel and GTE Wireless before they became who they are now. It is highly likely that those other 2 companies changed since the mergers/takeovers but if it is for the better I won't know that. I-Wireless is just plain crap though.
I'm sure a lot of you have NEVER heard of I-Wireless and you might not ever hear of them...

Google actually is working on coming into the wireless industry. Additionally, the are trying to bring the notion of open-source to cell phones (any phone, any carrier).

The primary reason for contracts is so that you get a discount on the phone. You can buy a phone at retail and start service without contract.

The primary reason for taxes/fees is the government on a federal, state, county and local level. If you want that changed, you're talking about a much bigger change than just the cell phone industry🙂.

I love your ideas, though. I'm an idealist, too!
