A very high up close friend of mine let me know that there are very serious talks going on concerning a buyout from VZW. It is very close to be announced.

I don't see it as a big time impossibility for Verizon to buy USCC. Verizon is pissed that they are the second largest in the nation, THEY WANT THE TITLE BACK! They will buy USCC just for the customers at whatever cost, Verizon's not stupid they want the customers... Thats the bottom line, along with the customers come thier revenue.. For Verizon they can buy USCC get rid of half the stores, which makes the customers worth more because there is less overhead. The fact that USCC is making money is just more fuel in the buyout fire... So pretty much what Verizon would be buying is.... MORE PAYCHECKS and the ablity to once again say, hey were the biggest.

well, they would also gain territory. They would get Nebraska, and hopefully build it up, they would get Northern Iowa, some more parts of minnesota, wisconsin. Those are just some area I can think of off the top of my head.

I doubt this is true. there is also areas they would have to get rid of to prevent overlay. Time will tell all.

this is definately a huge possibility...why do you think verizon has been buying out smaller cell phone companies like Ramcell and Rural Wirless?..so they can gain more customers without a huge price..if they really wanted a lot of new customers, they would aim at a bigger CDMA company, like U.S. Cellular...its the same thing with at&t with the dobson buyout..Dobson was one of the biggest GSM providers so they bought it to widen the gap from Verizon to stay on top... i also look for this to happen very soon... cause we all know Verizon has money Razz

At this moment, it would be smarter for them to get Alltel, who is being held by a couple of holding companies, waiting for the right offer. Alltel is at least in the market to sell, and would probably be easier to get a hold of. Alltel is much bigger (customer and home area wise) than USCC, which is huge compared to the smaller companies that Verizon has been buying up so much lately. You would think they would just buy Alltel already and get it over with.

If USCC were willing to sell, I wouldn't say that VZW trying to acquire USCC would be going after a worthless provider. Verizon would like to get the rest of the B block that they were forced to divest Primeco Chicago & Northern Indiana. For the NE, I believe if they acquired Unicel today, I believe depending on who covers their area better, I believe where USCC & Unicel overlapped, they might divest the Unicel network, just because USCC's network would be cheaper to integrate than Unicel's network (even if VZW said they would keep the GSM network...

You are correct. I think with the response over the last year of TDS buying up shares of the open stock does not show signs of a buyout. Dont get me wrong if they got a 25-20billion offer they prob wouldn't say no.

TDS has realized the power of leveraging services across the communication industry. (not just wireless) this is why US Cellular is a very good strategic fit for their business portfolio.

Who knows you might one day see a triple play offer with TDS and US Cellular. (prob not but never know)

US Cellular is attractive to both outside investments and current players so I will look at both.

1. Outside -

“USCC is not for sale and will not be”. I would be interested hearing what your friend is saying now. I have been in the wireless business for a very long time and have information about both carriers. This is how I see it. I believe that a buyout of US Cellular is not only possible but probable. Verizon has a new internal slogan "Best to the Biggest" this year! Verizon is very strong in the East and West, but they need to fill in the Mid-West. That is where US Cellular comes into play. US Cellular is very strong in the Mid-West. US Cellular since your post was posted has stopped many of their plans to continue building out the licenses that they have anticipated building out for several years to include Springfield, MO. It's still a rumor at this time. But with USCC holding off on expanding into new markets with licenses they have; who knows what's gonna happen. Who knows how much more Alltel will be owned by the investment groups before it gets sold should they get no 700 band licenses.

you are correct that i work for us cellular. why else would my name be usccindiana?

my reasoning for saying what i did is:

- us cellular is the only company out of all the major competitors to never be sold or merged into another company

- us cellular has strived over the entirety of its existence to deliver excellent customer service, and to have that as our core mission. by being "bought out", we would not be able to fulfill that mission.

- people are always saying us cellular is being bought out and it hasn't happened

- us cellular is doing fine on its own, and is working on its own projects to expand coverage and increase services offered to our customers

- the post made at the beginning of all of this was false

I am not disagreeing with every thing you are saying. I have been affilated with USCC for a very long time in one capacity or another, but I have inside information regarding future plans to expand. Starting with the fact that USCC's entire agent sales force is pulling out of St. Louis. USCC is giving all the agents in St. Louis a free ticket out. The agents have done a great job of selling the service with all the extras, but that is not keeping the customers from coming back in groves and disconnecting in large numbers. With most every store having a disconnect ratio of 60 to 80% it doesn't look good. If St. Louis doesn't make it I don't know if USCC will hang out long term. If you are from Indiana you could not have been with USCC ...

This is perhaps the most ill informed comment I have ever heard. U.S. Cellular has just signed a 5 year deal with Alcatel-Lucent (hello EVDO) to expand the network and has announced a whole new line up of competetive phones. They are expanding rapidly and are (gasp) making money.

To sell out the company would require our majority shareholder to sell us off. That majority shareholder is TDS, and guess what, it would make absolutely zero sense for TDS to sell off a subsidiary company that is making them a profit while simultaneously allowing the company to invest in long term projects that will expand the network.

I could go on if need be.

Expansion doesn't mean new markets neccessarily. But expanding the data services that USCC can offer is a major expansion that requires massive investment by the company and increase penetration in existing markets.

As for TDS selling our US Cellular...

TDS is majority shareholder, which means that the Board of Driectors is pretty much all TDS. The Board of Directors would not allow a deal like that if TDS is planning on selling the company, especially with Verizon announcing plans to move to GSM.

It just makes no sense to me unless there is something that I am not seeing.

This has been discussed in the Verizon Wireless forums, but they're not going GSM. They're going LTE, which is the path that GSM carriers are going, since GSM is based on TDMA, and can't be upgraded any further. CDMA is still upgradeable, but Verizon chose to go with LTE, along with their partner Vodafone. If USCC is still around by the time LTE gets launched, ...

If TDS sells or gets taken over by another company. That company would automatically own the 80% ownership in USCC. Your comment of them not selling to Verizon because they are moving to GSM is not true. Verizon is not moving to GSM. The platform Verizon is moving to is the next gen 4 platform. Which is where CDMA and GSM will somewhat merge. And if you think that Verizon would not spend the money to convert USCC's network your mistaken. Verizon only spends about 5 BILLION dollars a year on their network. Which they will be spending the money to upgrade their existing network too. If people would stop looking threw their own rose colored carrier glasses and actually looked at the entire industry as a whole then they may see the whole...

USCC will continue to do business with it's vendors if and when it ever gets bought out. These things or events do not mean anything when it comes to them being sold. I know the relationship with TDS, but has anyone considered the fact the TDS is a publicly traded company and also could be purchased. I don't see the Carlsons getting any younger. So who do you think will be the next wireless company that could be purchased and approved by the FCC? I don't see Sprint being purchased and approved by the other big 3.
