This isn't really bad for AT&T...

Okay...so I work for AT&T. Not a fan boy or anything, they just pay my bill. I've been with them for about two years now and although it's upsetting that they got rid of their unlimited plan, I don't think it's the worse thing in the world.

Ever since AT&T lowered the data plan from a solid $30 to either $15 or $25, I've seen more people who would have otherwise went for a messaging phone now going for smartphones because they are more affordable. Older people and younger people right out of college. It hurts my commission, no doubt. But in the grand scheme of things, it works well for the customer.

I always say this is all about choice. You can pick your carrier, you can pick how much you can afford every month and see which provide...

I actually agree with you, Jeff.
We've seen lots more people go to a smartphone based on data plan pricing alone. I find it helps my employees commission. Yes, you lose $5/smartphone BUT I find it's offset by additional sales.
The people that ACTUALLY use more than 2GB of data per month are far and few between. I'm sure someone will try to argue that point with me, but will lose.
Besides, what good is unlimited when you're on VZW's slow 3G network? As the HSPA+ starts turning up, and throttles are released, you'll see existing 3G phones fly on AT&T. I can get 5 Mbps on an iPhone 4 consistently where I'm at. Folks that switch are going to be surprised at the difference...

The only problem is At&T's 3G is about as reliable as Shaq at the free throw line. Not good. When Verizon switches all devices to 4G it will be lights out

That's funny you say that. I have had AT&T for a long time, and I never have issues with reliability. My wife recently switched from VZW to AT&T because of reliability issues with their network. Generalizing that AT&T or Verizon generally have crappy networks is unfair. I can concede that carriers are better in some places than others. i.e. I have friends in Cali who can't use anything but T-Mobile in at their place, and others in NY that can only use Sprint.
You also do realize that Verizon and AT&T will both be using LTE for their "4G", right?
There will be no "lights out" for anyone...

The issue is the amount of coverage each carrier can offer. Unless ATT gets really lucky with purchases, their LTE network will only really work where their current HSPA+ network works (this is where they have spectrum licenses for)

Verizon's spectrum licenses cover their current 3g network and more.

You really can't compare the two networks. One is ranked #1 and one is ranked dead last out of the four major carriers. We both know at&t will be severely crippled by the iPhone going to VZW. Why else would you go to at&t now? There was one and its gone

Pls stop with the foolishness. First off why does everything have to turn into a bitch feast. Jeffdabeat was stating something about att and ppl come in about verizon's network. Let me set the record straight, att has a really fast and good network, verizon has a kinda slow and reliable network(my work verizon phone and laptop suck btw). Where you get these bogus claims of dead last are beyond me. Att is releasing there 4th qtr #'s in 2 days and Verizon today, it's being stated that att may very well have surpassed verizon. So please stop the lies and foolishness because you sound stupid. Yeah att is crippled by iphone going to VZ. How? Don't they still offer the iphone, dont they have the most powerful hyped up android/phone ever coming out...

Foolishness indeed.

Watching red and blue argue is quite entertaining. Its also an exercise in futility.

Stop complaining, because3 you are wrong.

No, YOU stop complaining because YOU are wrong.

Better than comedy central.

I think your claim about VZ needing the iphone more than At&t is not accurate. VZ has more customers than At&t w/o the iphone.

The statement regarding At&t coming in last is based on customer satisfaction polls (e.g., Consumer reports, JD Power, etc). The 4th qtr numbers that you are referring to is a different topic.

Vz needed to iPhone, because without it, it could not keep up with the number of customer that at&t was adding. Check those numbers on Thrus. AT&T is now #1 by the number of subscribers.
AT&T closed a gap of 5+ million customers in less than 3 yrs.
THAT's why Vz needed iPhone

Actually, as far as the consumer reports thing goes, the numbers were kind of rigged. The AT&T customer's they polled were mostly iphone users based in NY and San Francisco, which is pretty unfair. If they had polled Verizon customer's in an area where they had heavy congestion and loss of service (yes, they do exist!) Then you would have seen the same response but in reverse. I even read an article about a big hoo-ah about consumer reports employees being bought off (no one specifically implicated but fingers were pretty heavily pointed at Sprint.) so I don't go by the crap like that. They're one step up from tabloid magazines in my book. I've been with Verizon, I've been with T-Mobile and Sprint (still owe Sprint ETFs.) and I'm happy with ...

The numbers are out. The article says At&t is #2 and VZW is #1. So please explain to why VZW needed the Iphone. It looks VZW was able to keep up and surpass At&t w/o the Iphone.

Please reply Anxiovert.
