article must be wrong, because I work at best buy and was told my my manager as well as our training exercises that its off the retail price. Why would anyone buy a phone for a $1, pay $60 for the plan just to get $.50 back lol.
Don't worry about the company losing money. The company is still getting the $60 from the customer and most will proably not even take advantage of it untill close to time to upgrade anyways and by then you don't get much back. The company is also getting your phone in return, so they aren't really losing anything.
Its suppose to be based off of retail price. When you come back your in contract and will have to pay full price for a new phone which is why they are giving you money back based off the retail price.
