Sprint, what is the point?

If you are going to shut down iDEN by the end of 2013, then what is the point of releasing new handsets and selling a service that costs you money? Granted, I love NEXTEL when I had it, but then I moved to an area where Sprint has poor coverage in general so I switched to VZW, but that's beside the point.

If you are going to shut down iDEN, Sprint, then do it now and stop wasting what money you have left.

Sprint is so phuckin retarded I swear. It's no wonder they have the highest churn in the industry. They have no money and Clear is b*tching about lack of funding. They need to get their priorities straight and stop supporting an old outdated technology that nobody no longer cares about

Old technology or not, Boost Mobility is a hot seller for Sprint and there are still a fair amount of contractors on Nextel that rely on instant contact with one another.

But are they still making money off of that? Last time I checked those hoodrats left for T-Mo and sidekicks and now have Android devices

Yes. They are still making money off of Boost. They may not be the high ARPU customers Sprint would prefer to have, but they are customers nonetheless.

Boost has more CDMA handsets now than iDEN, I've been watching the gradual transition over the last year. Eventually, Boost will be all CDMA.

For one, t-mobile has a higher churn rate than Sprint by a fair amount. Secondly, if you'll check their financials, you'd notice that Sprint is sitting on almost $5billion in cash and equivalents. Third, you just can't up and flip the switch off on ~11million subscribers. That's a sure-fire recipe for disastrous quarter.

As mentioned in my other post, Sprint announced that they're going to begin ...

Nextel has been poison for Sprint since day one and yes I forgot T-Mo has taken over when it comes to high churn, I forgot. But Sprint aint far behind and it wont be long before they take the highest churn prize once again. WiMax won't save them but that's another story

Actually t-mobile's churn has been higher than Sprint's for some time now. For the most recent quarter Sprint's churn was 1.93%, t-mobile's was 2.4%; yes, that is far behind. As far as your prognostications, if they're based on the research abilities that you've shown to this point, you'll forgive me if I don't take them to the bank. 😉

One thing I will agree with is that Nextel has been a poison pill for Sprint....

If they make it to 2013. The bottom line is that Sprint sucks. Always has. Always will.

Nah, that's not the bottom line, that's just your opinion and hopefully you know what those are worth....

Sure he does Mr. Hesse. He knows it's worth a lot more than yours. 😁

Mr. Heese I know it's hard to swallow but face it, Sprint sucks. You're on a sinking ship and you're still bleeding customers. You have no money and Clear wants to know why you haven't given them any although it's pretty obvious at this point.

You made a huge mistake by going Wimax (especially at a crappy frequency which has a had time penetrating through indoors) and you will pay for it dearly. Save your company now. It's not too late to go LTE. Just kill Nextel already and stop beating a dead horse!

There was no mistake on WiMAX. If memory serves me correctly, In 2005, Sprint was forced to utilize their Spectrum within 4 years. LTE was barely a young concept. WiMAX was ready to go.

My question is: What would you like Sprint to do? Switch the name from WiMAX to LTE or Switch frequencies? They are two different entities. Carriers could have adopted WiMAX yet still had the same frequencies they currently are employing. It's just a name.

As far as frequency: I agree that the lower frequencies may have better building penetration, however, I have currently found no major issues. People are under the assumption that the higher frequencies won't penetrate at all. This is wrong. It does penetrate. Just not as easily as lower.

could go to AT&T in the near future. With the circulating iPhone rumors, tmo and Sprint won't have to worry about a churn award if they come true.

They cannot simply shut off the iDen network (even though they never should have bought Nextel in the first place). They have to have a migration path for those iDen customers to go to. As long as they are keeping the network up they may as well launch a few handsets to keep those customers happy.

I know. But what they could do to save money is develop a good PTT over their CDMA, perfect it, and offer iDEN customers a free handset to switch over to CDMA and not spend the money operating two networks while their competitors operate just one.

Honestly, the iDEN network is still losing around 100-200 K subscribers a quarter so their customer base is shrinking, while their CDMA base is growi...

Even if Southern Linc had the resources and will to do so I doubt Sprint would sell it to them.

Won't this most likely work like the analog shutdown? Or am I the only one who remembers that??

I worked in New England for Verizon Wireless at that time. Plenty of people said "oh they can't shut down analog, what a horrible decision, they'll lose so many customers, I have service everywhere with my 3-lb analog handset, blah blah blah..."

Yeah right.
