Everyone should read this:

For those out there that choose not to read it, Car & Driver is doing a very basic experiment in a closed course: Drive in a straight line & keep a look out for a red light that is placed over the dash under the windshield that the passenger will activate. This red light will illuminate & represent a vehicle braking in front of the driver.

The experiment records the results of normal driving conditions (i.e. no distractions, good weather), then proceeds to driving while texting, then driving while legally drunk.

Now, if a driver can't even perform a basic stop because of a distraction, then that person should n...

So far, you and netboy are the only ones complaining about this supposed "right" being taken from you. The problem is, neither one of you has actually come up with a positive aspect of texting while driving. All you two have said is, "Oh my God, what's next?!?!" And then come up with the most inane, ridiculous situations and call it distracting. You might as well say that sunlight is a distraction because it can get in your eyes, so let's ban the sun. Please come up with a positive aspect of texting while driving, and we MIGHT take you seriously.

some of you people are just dumb and stupid!
the human brain can do multi-task!
i can watching a movie, listening to the people on film talking, and eating popcorn and my hand is moving to get popcorn to put in my mouth!
distracting? some people turn on the TV or radio while they studying for their final exams! (school related)

Now tell me the positive aspect of doing these things while driving a 2000 pound car at 65 miles per hour. Just driving by itself is multi-tasking, because I have to pay attention to my speed, make sure I'm staying in between the lines, and watching out for wreckless idiots who are too busy trying to look cool by speeding, racing their idiot friends, or looking at their phone to see what the text message they just got says and then answering it. You fail, try again.

I love your example of eating popcorn during a movie. Like your seat can suddenly swerve out of control because you were digging the last bit of popcorn out of the giant bucket. Idiot.

If you can't multi-task you shouldn't be behind a wheel. You multitask every day while driving whether it be listening to the radio while driving home or "defensive" driving. It's just the government has no right to tell us that we can't text while driving. Are people at risk; maybe, but the same arguement can be said for anything else that is a distraction (radio, gps, smoking, makeup, etc...) while driving. It's one thing to purposly harm someone and have laws against that but something as small as texting while driving is unconstitutional. Will there be cases of accidents while someone was driving and texting? Yes but same goes for changing a station on the radio or flicking a cigeratte butt out the window. Why don't you just drink the go...

Benefit of not? Benefit of smoking while driving? Benefit of listening to the radio while driving? You haven't given any clear cut benefits of doing anything but focusing dead straight on the road while driving! So should we ban it all then?

The benefit of not texting while driving? Let's see; you can keep your eyes on the road instead of the message from your friends that apparenty couldn't wait until you were stopped; thus lessening the likelyhood of drifting into the other lane and smashing into another car.

Your move, Sherlock.

Ok then when i got to replace the cd with a new one because im done listening to it. I take my eyes off the road to look through my cd's and select one and look at the radio to put it in. I veer into another lane. Isn't that the same, why isn't that a topic of being banned?

Because of all the recent accidents that have been proven to have been caused by an idiot distracted by texting while driving.

Accidents are cause by all sorts of things not just texting. Distractions in general, so to label one thing as a cause of all accidents is moronic. Many people can multitask very good many people can't. So why ban one things and not the other. If you wan't to ban texting while driving ban everything else that is a distraction in the car.

Where, exactly, did I say that "ALL ACCIDENTS ARE CAUSED BY TEXTING WHILE DRIVING!!" You might as well be arguing for the legalizating of drunk driving. That's a distraction, right? I can multi-task by being drunk AND driving at the same time!

Different thing, your not physically impaired while texting and driving. Distracted maybe (some people) not physically impaired. You just assume since one thing as gotten more national spot light then others you want to jump on the do the right thing banwagon and get a law passed. Guarentee accidents caused my texting are no where near as many as those caused by other distractions that are perfectly legal to commit.

You are impaired. Your focus is on the phone, not the road. No difference.

Quit using other examples, this is about TEXTING. Texting someone requires way more attention than talking to the person next to me. I don't have to look at them to carry on a conversation.

At least I can spell and have proper grammar. That makes me better than you and netboy. I hope you plow into someone when you're texting, maybe THEN you'll finally realize that, just maybe, that message can wait.

Tool.

Yes because I typing so fast and really don't care how I spell on a forum makes you a better speller. Sorry I didn't know this was an offical report I was submitting. I hope you look down change your cd and hit the car in front of you because you didn't notice he slammed on his brakes then maybe you will think twice about changing cd's while driving!

P.S. Did you know most accidents cause by distractions (70%) were from someone eating something/drinking a drink (soda, coffee, not alcohol) and not texting!

Yeah, I'M the fool because, while carrying on a debate, I expect the other perticipants to at least have the APPEARANCE of intelligence. Please. I don't need to have better English skills than you just to BE better than you, it just helps.

You fail at intelligence, please go complete grades 4-12 again, then you can come back to this site.
