1x vs 1xEv-Do vs Rev A vs HSDPA vs HSUPA vs HSPA maybe vs Edge

Hai gaiz,
I wonder what the map is actually based on? I remember back in the day we used to hear a lot about 1x and Rev. A, but is this map to assume Verizon's entire network is Rev. A? Or do they still count areas with 1x as 3G (which it technically is) as opposed to excluding EDGE on the at&t map?

I guess this is a convoluted post asking this:
(these are all generalities based on speed/performance)
1x = EDGE ?
Rev. A = HSDPA ?

However 1x is considered 3G because it was rolled out technically as the networks third generation, where as most GSM carriers just upped the class of EDGE.

In other words, "IDK MY BFF JILL"

Exactly! Verizon is displaying its ENTIRE 3G coverage which is 1x AND EV-DO REV A. And only AT&T's HSDPA (NOT Edge). I think the suit is a good idea on AT&T's part. Maybe Verizon will blink?

the red in the map coverage matches exactly with the blue on the on-line "broadband access" (which is all 3g, 1x is known as national access) if they included 1x and EVDO, the map would be basically all red.

notice ATT is not suing over the coverage displayed (because it is accurate) but rather that they say customers will assume that they will get no coverage if they are not in those blue areas (data or voice)

What Verizon has displayed in the ad is what they consider their Broadband/VCast coverage area. Ie. areas that require EVDO/EVDO Rev. A. If you look here (http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/CoverageL ocatorController?requesttype=NEWREQUEST&cover agetype=broadband), all the purple (EVDO) is what they have in the ad, and all the green (1X) is taken out and shown as white. So, it looks like to me that they are just comparing EVDO to HSDPA.

Anything that isn't 1X on Verizon Wireless' network is upgraded to Rev A. And I think that what seems to throw off a lot of people when comparing the maps on the commercial to those on Verizon Wireless' Web site is the difference in color. On Verizon Wireless' Web site, anything that's of varying shades of blue and green on the broadband map is 3G.
