should we really take away spectrum from the DOD just so some kid can get his porn faster. Lets be real here most people including me, who use a smart phone really do not have to have one. or a cell phone at all for that matter.

The demand curves from uses like smartphones suggest it's going to increase dramatically, for spectrum." One idea being considered is reclaiming some of the spectrum that is being used by government agencies, such as the Department of Defense.

Before it should even consider auctioning & licensing any new CMRS spectrum, the FCC should try one of two courses of action:

1) Confiscate much of the unused stores of PCS 1900 MHz & AWS 2100+1700 MHz spectrum that VZW & AT&T are effectively just hoarding away from competitors.

2) Light a fire under the two duopolistic carriers' asses to get the dormant spectrum deployed for commercial public use.

I agree. AT&T and Verizon bought a lot of AWS spectrum, yet I don't hear them mentioning what they will use it for. All I hear is that the 700MHz spectrum will be mainly used for LTE. No mention of AWS.

What AT&T tried to do was pull a fast one, and think that they would outbid T-Mobile. But T-Mobile proved that they had enough money to buy the whole store, and still get things up and running fairly quickly. T-Mobile had some hiccups after they bought the AWS spectrum, but they are aggressively pushing it now.

I think the reason the FCC and DoJ keeps approving all these Verizon and AT&T buyout/mergers, is because they depend on them for the govt, and if they didn't approve them, it could hurt the govt. Still doesn't justify why Verizon...
