Prison Heads Ask FCC for Permission to Jam Cell Signals
Who cares...
I'm happy because crime lords can't talk with their contacts outside of their supermax prison, the family that wanted a cheap house next to a supermax prison can still use Skype to make wireless calls.
Before you start complaining by saying "people shouldn't be forced to buy a Femtocell in order to have wireless service!" my response to that is
Keep your home phone, your cellphone is NOT a necessity its a luxury!
just ban prisoners from having cellphone!
what if some gangs is blocking my car, and i'm near prison. how the F am i going to call 911 when cellphone signal is jammed!

They are banned from having cell phones, but it doesn't mean that they don't get them anyway
I do think that this can be solved in easier ways. It may be 'easier' to have carriers just make sure that the service is 'weak'around the prisons. Add some lead paint to the walls 😁

That sounds like the prisons are not doing their jobs. Don't punish the public because the guards are inept. Who exactly are the prisoners anyway? Not us...at least we shouldn't be.
The only way for prisons to do their job according to your specifications is to have a 1:1 prisoner and visitor to guard ratio. Simply not feasible. Unless you're talking supermax, it's relatively easy to get contraband into the prison. I think if you can jam signals in a prison without affecting the outside, I say go for it.
Maybe they could err on the side of allowing some calls to be made in certain areas of the prison. That would make catching inmates with contraband cell phones easier to catch.
Also - supermax (put it in death valley, or somewhere remote/cheap) would be the way to go.

how often do you hear of people cutting landlines? NEVER- thats just CSI miami crap; it doesn't happen in real life
Just have the guards do their jobs num nuts. 😡
lets say several gangs in a Prison maintain contact through a cellphones they then coordinate a PRISON BREAK who gets hurt, beaten and held hostage?... THE PEOPLE that live around the prison!
No one is forcing people to live next to a prison and most prisons are located in rural areas. This effects a very small group of people stop thinking everyone everywhere won't have service
What you FAIL to realize is that this economy needs and wants certain things to happen to get money and to keep it generated.
Do you really think blocking or jamming cell signals are going to keep gangs from communicating? the same guards that give them cellys will allow them access to land lines or Word of mouth by relating information for them. How do you think all this type stuff used to happen even at a worse extent before cellphones came to picture?
Now you may argue and say, "Well it will help more control the outbreaks or slow the process"
but it will slow the process just as effectively as just s...

Instead of enforcing the laws we already have, our legislators just make more laws so it looks like they are actually doing something. That's the way it works in our wonderful country.
For starters, you just increased the sales and income of Femtocell. Why? Do you work for them? Why do i have to change my service provider? why do i have to download, install, adapt to anything because of a problem that these billion dollar companies cant fix? (the prison system is not run by poor people).
Then you go on to say cellphones is a luxury not a necessity.....say that to the truck driver that spends 200 out of the 365 days on the road. What about the business guy who spends most of his time traveling from city/country to city/country. I wont even ask you to consider the guy who works 2 jobs and does nothing but sleep at his home. A home phone is now a lu...

Ignore that, lets think about a riot situation....you realize that those staff workers who are cut off from access to a land-line will not be able to contact the outside world and inform them of the situation?
Anyway, this is just further proving my point that this "action" being taken by the prisons offers more harm then good. Doesn't matter though, in the end, money talks......
I don't necessarily see the bad outweighing the good. Are we really so quick to assume the prison guards aren't doing their jobs? From what I understand, there are tons of claims of cruelty in prison, where guards do their job, or sometimes more (even if it's extreme).
I'm wondering if there would be a way to isolate the cell phone jamming a bit more, kinda like the femtocells, just the reverse, so it wont affect surrounding areas?
And regarding the employees, I do know they can't have cells, and probably have some sort of walkie talkie system, so in case of said riot, they should have a way to communicate anyway.
Though gangs always find w...

As far as the staff is concerned, they are not allowed to carry personal cell phones on the property. I've worked with guards before. They bring coolers and stash their phones in their cars, but they can't bring them on the grounds.
In my attempt to prove why this is more wrong then right i failed to remember that you are right. Guards aren't allowed. Forgive me. Exclude that part of my reasoning.

Maybe I'm the only one stuck in the middle on this issue... I really do see both points.
