No it isn't. It's due to the Nextel's network handling of text messages through MMS instead of a true SMS gateway. Hit up any Nextel forum and you can find multiple entries through the years complaining about text messaging.

It's because Iden wassnt made to sms texting or mms that's the problem and this is why sprint was so dumb to buy nextel

It's all about implementation. Southernlinc is an iDEN carrier in the US that does not have the SMS issues Nextel does because they implement a true SMS gateway. You're right in regards to iDEN not being well suited for MMS due to the horrible data transfer speeds.

I always hated texting on Nextel just because of the way that they have it set up! It always annoyed me when I read a generic Motorola user's manual for an iDEN phone with references to SMS built into the phone, only to have Nextel not implement it.
And yeah, Nextel SMS has always been a crapshoot, even on the postpaid side. 😡

So will Boost finally use a SMS gateway instead of MMS?

That would be nice, but I don't think that was their plan of action to conquer the Boost SMS difficulties. I think they just tweaked their current setup somehow.
Can anyone with Boost chime in regarding whether or not the fix is actually noticeable?
