Verizon did this a few years ago (selling off to Crown I believe). Biting them in the butt now, though. More and more tower owners are making carriers specify specific antenna models, coax types & sizes, tower mounted amps, combiners, etc in their leases. Now if a carrier decided they need to adjust antennas or change them to better serve an area, the tower owner can jack rent because they're making a change. And provided that's the only tower in an area and the tower owner isn't being completely unreasonable in the rent increase, a carrier is going to have a VERY difficult road ahead if they decide it's not worth it and want to erect their own tower instead.
