Wal-mart has some of the most ill-inform reps in the industry. G1 is going to require training and teaching people how to use it.
No offense to the people working there but they have cashiers running the stand, not reps. Most Wal-mart customers still end up coming to my store to get the phone because they know they can get the support they need here.
...
You are very correct. But I would still get the phone at walmart just to save a few bucks. lol.
...
Then if you came to my store to learn how to use it I'd shoo you away. 🤣 😉

Well I'd then just goto the TMO Corp. store and they will help.
BTW Costco has them too, $179.00 no activation fee/upgrade fee, car charger, bt device and case included. Which might even be a better deal.
...
Actually I take back the first part of what I said, Walmart is annoying, I'd rather pay more and get it at a TMO store. As far as the Costco statement, the salespeople there are knowledgeable and friendly, but that could be market to market.
I've always thought it was better and still do to buy via corp store, be it AT&T or any other carrier if it is at all possible.

I agree! Corp stores are by far better than franchise, not just for hardware, but for account issues too, they can do things franchise stores can't. Plus corp store have the newest phones usually before franchise stores.

Are you sure that T-Mobile only makes certain phones available to themselves before the resellers? I know Verizon & Sprint in my area have been known to offer certain new phones to Best Buy, before they're offered to corporate stores, and other resellers. I can't really comment on phone selection (as far as exclusives) to T-Mobile stores, as there's only 1 corporate store in my area (a mall kiosk), and the rest are resellers.
I do agree that this phone (or any phone for...

I think you have it backwards about only caring about sales, we don't get paid comission at walmart. We get paid nothing extra for doing 1 contract, or 100. At my store we try to focus on customer service. True, walmart makes more if we sell a feature or a higher minute plan, but as sales associates we see nothing extra from this on our paychecks. However, we are judged on the amount of sales vs returns, and customer complaints. That's how we keep our jobs.
I frequent sites such as this one, and read up on phones we don't even carry so I can train the people in my department on them, and have the knowledge of them when people come in and ask how the phones we carry compare to the ones in the corp stores, we can tell them.
I'm proud...

I actually sell for Costco, and your right. Plus my store is actually KNOWLEDGABLE about the phone.
The corp around me don't like me very much because I tend to help people actually save money on both the phone and the bill.
Last weeek, lady upgraded to a LG shine for $100 w/ $50 mail in rebate, saw mine for $10 INSTANT rebate with car charger (which she paid $20), carrying case and wired headset, returned it to the corp, upgraded with me, and got a nasty call from a rep cause they couldn't price match it >=)

LOl see thats why... Out of all the phones I've bought I never asked any rep how to use it. That takes away the fun of figuring what all it can do and what make it ticks... 😁 😁

Well, since I don't require training to use a smartphone from an employee (can learn much more from a manual, forums, or just simply going through the features myself), if I was interested in buying a G1 I would buy it there long before T-Mobile.

well i guess if ya wanna save a few bucks you can always go to good ol wal mart. just make sure you have fun when the transactions that take way longer than you want it to and/or they dont add the right feature to your account like ive heard many times over. people text or cruise the net like nuts and see their bill only to find out the guy who doubles as an underwear salesman screwed up at the kiosk.
love you walmart 😁

I have yet to have issues with phones bought through Best Buy or Sam's Club, as long as you're going into current plans or maintaining simple plans (i.e. do not have special plans on the account such as the old Blue plan, SERO, or retention plans). Plan issues can also be easily rectified via your online account (especially if you're new or going into a current plan) or through customer care (which, though Verizon has won the JD Power Award for there's, T-Mobile is still ranked high).

The problem arises when stores near Wal-Marts (like mine) have the reps activate service (do they even make commission?) and then tell the custies to walk across the parking lot to the T-Mobile store where the reps will be glad to answer any question they may have.
Its just a little frustrating.

In my area, Walmart associates don't make commission on the sales. Any commission Walmart gets from the carriers (local to me: Verizon, AT&T, & T-Mobile) goes to the stores, and not back to the person who made the sale.
...
Sam's Club is a different ballgame. The folks who work in those kiosks are Radioshack employees who are just there to sell phones, so they are trained properly for the most part.
With Walmart, you may come back to ask a question and the rep you spoke to is working in Home and Garden that day.
...
thats kinda fuuny too because they are both owned by the same dude.
...
That's true. I wonder why they decided to outsource Sam's and handle Walmart "in house".
...
well walmart is free to walk in to lol

The bottom of your post cracked me up! ! ! "Some underwear salesman doubling as a cellphone salesman" Ha, ha, ha! ! ! 🤣 🤣 🤣

You don't, but a lot of customers do, especially with a new OS like Android, you don't simply press a menu button and your done.
The most asked question I get is how to import your contacts from a sim to phone, go to my wal-mart and they will tell you they can't because it doesn't have a "traditional" phonebook.
Or will it sync with outlook, my wal-mart simply shruged they're shoulders like they didn't know.
$20 savings is nice, but wasting your (not you exactly) gas and my time is simply not worth it.
P.S.
Manuels suck

oh I'm trying to bust your chops here, and I'm sorry it sounded that way.
Just trying to let people know it won't be as easy to learn as a standard Winmo phone or regular phone.

What exactly dn you mean by the G1 not having a traditional phonebook???
Most ?'s are answered by simply clicking Options and seeing what options are available.

"Manuels suck"
That's racist! jk
😁

Yeah, I feel the same way, I think one of the best ways to get to know a phone is just by navigating the menus. And browsing the user reviews on my favorite website Phone Scoop!
...
dude, it is a phone not rocket science.
i understand your concern regarding ill-informed reps.
if someone messes up their phone maybe they should pretend to be cool. should get a simpler phone 🤣
