I don't work for T-mobile, I work for Verizon but we deal with that same Wal-mart crap. I always have people say "I can get that at Wal-mart for half the price". Then when they come back to me for help I politely turn them away. I work indirectly and can do so. But it's quite annoying.

It usually doesn't take much convincing on my part, just ask them "you remember the last time you had a problem with an electronic device with Wal-Mart?", enough said.

Simply tell them the following:

1) They lower the price but sacrifice service.

2) Wal-mart customer service, something that is KEY to owning a cell phone, is bad.

3) Wal-mart won't sit down with you, and see how we can make the bill cheaper, you want to give up saving $20 a month so you can save $20 on a phone?

4) Is there is a problem you can actually point a finger at me, and we can take care of it immediatly. Walmart you have to first LOOK for someone who works in the department, wait for them to call, then come to find out the guy who was the janitor last we...

I have usually got better deals from corporate stores. I don't know what incentives T-Mobile has with upgrading customers, but I have Verizon, and they have the NE2, which I take advantage of. I use that, plus the rebate (changed since my last upgrade), and I can usually get the phone free after rebate (most mid-level phones). Walmart can't do that, and typically don't have the accessories I'm looking for. I have to go to the corporate stores (and select resellers that sell VZW approved accessories) to get my accessories.

Another problem for those on grandfathered plans (if carriers like T-Mobile allow it). Walmart makes people signup on current plans. Verizon allows people to stay on older plans for select phones. Some new VZW pho...

Yeah, walmart can't do the new every two... but the phones are usually cheaper than the cost after the discount to begin with. Also no rebates to worry about. If you can find me a single corp store that has the same cost for a new 2yr and a 2yr upgrade I'd love to see it. Also, on the 1% chance their price is lower walmart matches it, so long as there's an ad.
As for grandfathered plans, to be clear on that we are 100% at the carrier's mercy on that. They send us back an error that the plan wasn't found, we call them, and usually the old plan is kept, unless you want a new feature of some sort, at which point the carrier informs us they must go to an up to date plan. That's all on the carrier. Not walmart.
