Hating aside, the iPhone is the perfect phone for iTunes users. Outside of heavy iTunes usage, the iPhone falls short too much.
Looking at a Live Droid today, the phone feels very good in your hand. The keyboard was flat and had no feedback but I think the keyboard is a spite feature. What I mean is, I don't think the keyboard was primary. I think they added it last min for those people who might complain "I wish it had a keyboard". Because although its there and works, it doesnt stand out as a part of the phone you'll be using. The on-screen keyboard worked just fine. The rest of the phone felt like any other Android (G1, MyTouch, Hero). Sliding windows, market place and so on. The battery didn't budge after a heavy demonstration of features which was a good sign.
All in all, this is a great evolution of Android. You can tell a big difference between this phone and the G1.... unlike the 1st iPhone and the 3GS.
Personally, im not with Verizon, but, I would consider Verizon for this phone alone where I wouldn't consider AT&T for a iPhone (the iphone i used i used unlocked on T-Mobile).
Id give this phone a 4 out of 5 stars. Why the minus 1? well, its only close to perfect. I expect Android to continue to change the game.
