G whatever service?

Will the Motorola Droid a855 work as a phone without my having to have G service from my provider (Verizon). I just want a physically larger phone than the one I have and don't really care how smart it is? Verizon only wants to sell new gear and bigger service contracts and I can't get a straight answer from them.

EXTENDED BATTERY FOR MOTOROLA DROID

ANY RECOMMENDATIONS?
I use the Energizer xp2000 portable charger to give the battery a boost. It works pretty fast so you can charge while you're driving or sitting at your desk. Also no bulky battery on the phone.

DOWNLOAD ITUNES

Is there a way to get podcasts to Motorola Droid. It might first have to be downloaded to ITUNES.
There are many podcast mgrs for Android devices. Try

BTW, I am thrilled that they finally made the market to where you can search and install from your desktop!

ITS OFFICIAL!!!

ITS OFFICIAL! voyagerboy will be getting the iphone4 in feb. on verizon!! its long awaited, but its about time verizon stops screwin around with garbage and finally reaches the big leuges..no more black screens, no more missed emails, no dropped podcasts, flawless streaming, apps that dont crash after 2 mins, and yes bluetooth that connects the first time, my purchasing this phone will represent a tribute to a dying capatilistic nazi, who sues everyone. ill leave the peeons with their moronic android phones to quivle about it themselves, im movin on up like the jeffersons. i might even buy stock in apple now that its dropping, unfortunatly this will be the first actuall smartphone i owned since no droid qualifies. cant wait for the seamless ...

Droid keeps auto rebooting!

I am running FRG83D and I recently upgraded Juice Defender. I am not sure if Juice Defender is causing the reboots or if it is FRG83D.

Any thoughts or ideas?

.wmv files

Anyone know of an app that will play .wmv files. I have tried Rockplayer and Act 1 - with no luck
wmv files are designed to play on WINDOWS (hence the w in WMV). Many if not most wmv files include windows-only DRM. Aside from the fact that ANY DRM sucks and is easily circumvented in any case, it makes it nearly impossible to play wmv files anywh...

SCREEN GOES BLANK DURING CALL

When I am holding phone in front of me, it goes blank and I am unable to turn screen on. I am not holding phone near sensor at top.

Any suggestions?
There is a sensor that is on the front top left of the phone if i remember correctly. If that is covered or blocked in anyway it will turn the screen black.

Faster than Mifi?

I have a friend that claims the wireless tether app is a faster internet connection than his mifi 2200 when he has them side by side. Could this be due to the wifi on the app interfereing with the mifis signal?

also in the application ive noticed i can change the wireless frequency channel. what is the effect of this? same question with the LAN settings.

VOYAGERBOY TO RELEASE ANTI-DROID CAMPAIGN

you got it! voyagerboy will be hitting the campaign trail this fall in an effort to warn people of droid deception. The purpose of this is to save people from the hardships myself and others have endured over the past year as a result of being duped into buying a droid. We will be using online petitions and various news outlets to get the word out 😁 . our objective is to help people make wise choices when choosing a phone, if this effort is as sucsessful as i hope it to be, and with support from others hopefully we can rid the world of this useless family of phones.. stay tuned for updates!!!
You mean it's going to get worse? I rather thought you were already on a campaign to "warn people of droid deception". Oh wait, you said that was a "clandestine", so now you're moving from "a clandestine" to "a campaign". So the obvious question th...

Have a Rooted Droid? Try this Rom/Theme

I am a huge fan of the Cyanogen Team and his CM6 is an outstanding rom if you're currently rooted but haven't made the jump to custom roms yet (Honestly, besides CM, the only roms I ever kept on my phone for extended periods of time were Leaked official builds, and insanelyclean/shadowrom)

But recently, I decided to look into rom themes.

I decided to install the Incognito-Red for CM6. It's amazing. Everything is black and white (using ADW Theme is basically a must with this rom) and super slick.

http://forum.droid-life.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=407 »

I highly suggest you guys check it out. What other roms/themes do you guys use, if you're rooted that is?
Hey Menno, what great timing. I'm a fan of your posts since you usually seem to know what you're talking about.

I actually rooted for the very first time today. It was a bit tricky since I had the FRG22D build (stock 2.2) and had never rooted bef...

droid versus original voyager breakdown

heres a quick comparison to the droid and droid 2 to my old phone the voyager,

1. voyager does not stream podcasts, either does droid 1 or 2

2. voyager played youtube videos fine, droid 1 and 2 cant play for more than 1 minute on wifi and 3g.

3. voyager had stereo bluetooth and it stayed connected, most droid/droid 2 ever stayed connected to bluetooth was 20 mins.

4. gps worked fine on vzw navigator, droid 1 and 2 gps dosent work at all and dosent even have my location in the right hemisphere.

5.voyager never froze, droid 1 and 2 freezed multiple times a day.

6.was able to easily record phone calls on voyager, all android phone call record apps dont work.

7.internet speed same on droid and voyager and the voyager dosent ...

new droid 2, new set of problems

on my second droid 2, whole new set of problems, phone does not wanna connect to 3g now, and when i enter the camera app it just goes back to the homescreen, ohh ya and the hard keys dont light up like the first droid dud i had, i did get a new wireless n router and the phone flys on wifi with that router, i just cant imagine anyone actually spending money on these phones, i got 2 droids for free and i still got ripped off, even 5 bucks is to much money for a paperweight.
That's about all you can use a phone for anyway.

And stop posting this tripe on the website.

Sounds to me like you need to turn off the auto restore feature of Froyo.

I suspect, given the apps you have admitted to having, that there's lots of little goodies floating around in your google account from 2.1 that can cause issues when loaded o...

Locking up

I have a question, has anyone else had there phone lock up more or crash after getting the new update? The ther day i shut my phone off and when i turned it back on it came up a black screen and a error message. Took it to verizion and they did a rset on it and a few days later it started acting up again. Sorry for the really long run on sentence....🙂
Did you install any new apps lately? My phone has been very stable since I put froyo on it, and my father's which is completely stock has had no real issues. is there any pattern to when you get the error?

yes this happens all the time with droids, it will not stop locking up untill u get a new phone

There are reports, but mostly on the DroidX, that stuff left over from 2.1 was causing problems on 2.2.

the solution is to turn off the auto-restore feature of froyo, then wipe the device, then DO NOT sign back into your google account on first bo...

QUESTION

Has anyone had any experience with

You are able to get apps outside of Market.

Thanks in advance for your help.
It's piracy.

Downloading apps from there encourages devs not to develop apps for the market.

Don't do it.

Sound help?

My son gave me his droid. I LOVE IT so far but have a few questions.

1. When my son had it, when charging, once charged it would make a sound. Mind is not doing that.

2. I have two friends...Tony and Toni ....both of the contacts are meshed together (I use facebook as do they if that could have anything to do with it). When Toni texts me, it comes up as TonY.

3. Is there a way to get the alarm to show on the screen with the icons rather than having to go into phone and then look for it? It's a pain shutting it off each morning when I have to go look for it, wakes everyone else up!

4. Any apps that you might be able to recommend, I'd appreciate it!

THANKS!
2. I had this issue with some friends of mine. I just used my friends full name for one (anthony in your case) and then put Tony as the nickname

3. The alarm should be a big popup window when it goes off. If yours isn't I would check to see if ...

DLNA streaming, a quick word

well i finally got dlna streaming to work from my droid to my xbox(for a little while at least) and of course anything you try and do with a droid is only temporary, and dlna is no exception, the streaming works for about 5 mins or so then stops, then cant find the phone at all, this is no surprise at all to me, its just another example of how motorola advertises the phone can do a task and it cant, this is false advertising at its worst people, just one more thing to get pissed off about i guess, damn these phones are a joke.
Do us all a favor and just quit posting your garbage. No one here likes listening to you always bashing a great family of phones. If you hate it so much then get something else, and move on.
