LG, Verizon Offer Firmware Update for Voyager
Prolonged battery life?
But how can one make a battery longer by updating the software?
(I'm sorry, I guess this is more of a rant than a thread) but if it is possible to prolong a battery that to me is B.S. in that Verizon only waits for enough complaints to make a battery last as long as it SHOULD.
THe perfect example is the motorola Q. It had probably the worst battery life of any phone I've ever had. After a software update (not the first) it literally quadrupled my battery life. I don't know how much of a difference the voyagers update will give it, but it is certainly possible
So I guess when the engineers saw this becoming a chronic problem (the only way to test it is ultimately word of mouth review from the public), they reprogrammed the phone (re-write some coding/procedures) so perhaps certain functions won't require that much power? I guess it's like in the last scenes of Apollo 13 where those scientists were trying to rewrite procedures and programs to give that crew enough power to land.
but how would I know? I'm not an engineer or anything ...
This is but one example, that happens more often than you might think, where software impacts battery life. Application software too can impact battery life by prompting the device to use more power than it really needs to....
