auto focus with no moving parts??
how does that work?? 🤨
...
AUTOfocus. Kinda like one of those cheap throwaway Kodak cameras.
...
the cheap throw away cameras are fixed focus, not auto focus. there are a number of new technologies (liquid lenses, electrically charged lenses, etc) that have adjustable focus and adjustable zoom with no moving parts. they use varying systems to change the shape of a lens instead of moving a focal lens.
...
Any idea as to when such a technology will be on the (U.S.!!!) market???
Am I righ that this means handsets such as the KRZR, and RAZR 2 will be able to have 3.2mp, or 5mp AF lenses, and not the crappy pin-hole lens cameras???
...
Doubtful. The megapixel rating is determined by the CCD. This is a new procedure for manufacturing lenses.
...
I understand what your saying about CCDs, but aren't megapixels also a measure of how much resolution a camera is capable of capturing?
...
Yes, but the lens don't determine the megapixel rating. That's all in the gizmo that's under the lens.
...
Ok, that mks sense. It's the chip that determines how much data it can capture. But a good lense helps with the capturing too.
So anyway, this water lens technology gives me the impression that we'll be able to have much better quality cameras on much smaller phones such as the RAZR2, or the Blackjack, or the Q.
But,. . . WHEN??????
