Overall the OS looks solid, too bad it's made by HTC, which I think is going to be Android's downfall
The G1 is only the first Android device. Many other manufacturers are also working on their own Android devices.
(all of the good hardware manufacturers have their OWN OS.)
I disagree. If they do, it's often a proprietary OS that is not nearly as powerful as a true smartphone OS. The most powerful OSes are often the open ones that multiple manufacturers can use (Windows Mobile, S60, etc.)
HTC (Heavy Taiwanese Crap) devices always seem glitchy as hell and have really shoddy build quality. The devices made to other manufacturer's specs seem to be solid enough (Palm), but I'll never live down the POS Apache or Mogul.
"Glitchy" usually has more to do with the software than the hardware. This is running a totally different OS, so any opinions about the glitchiness of HTC's Windows Mobile devices shouldn't apply to this device.
I agree that HTC could be more consistent with build quality - some older devices were not great in that regard - but they have also put out some devices with top-notch build quality as well.
