Too bad it's made by HTC - so what's the point?

Overall the OS looks solid, too bad it's made by HTC, which I think is going to be Android's downfall (all of the good hardware manufacturers have their OWN OS.)

HTC (Heavy Taiwanese Crap) devices always seem glitchy as hell and have really shoddy build quality. The devices made to other manufacturer's specs seem to be solid enough (Palm), but I'll never live down the POS Apache or Mogul.

The real problem is that this device looks like a 'prototype,' not a finished product. I'm not even sure what its purpose is.... the business crowd is going to want a Blackberry, the trendy crowd is going to want an iPhone, and the super-nerds are going to want WM crap.

The G1 is only the first Android device. Many other manufacturers are also working on their own Android devices.

(all of the good hardware manufacturers have their OWN OS.)

I disagree. If they do, it's often a proprietary OS that is not nearly as powerful as a true smartphone OS. The most powerful OSes are often the open ones that multiple manufacturers can use (Windows Mobile, S60, etc.)

I've owned a few HTC devices with hardware defects- things like keyboards that didn't fully work right or glitchy trackpads or radios.

S60 is, for the most part, a Nokia OS. Although they've played around with Maemo and a few other Symbian variants, I don't even know of another manufacturer who has anywhere near the involvement with the OS that Nokia does.

Ther will most likely be a lot of other Android devices, but the same has been said about Palm and WinMo- there were a *lot* of Palm and still are a lot of WinMo devices, and both platforms suffered from indifferent hardware manufacturers (Kyocera and Samsung with Palm) and lack of focus. (Sony with the failed CLIE devices years back, HTC currently.)

I'm not optimistic that you'r...

Maybe the htc phones made for tmobile. Visit the website htc.com for yourself and see tmobile gets prototypes compare to everyone else. T-mobile obviously get crapy phones from them intentionally any one with a few minutes to browse can see the wing and the dash are jokes. Compare to phones they give other providers. My take is t-mobile want to take credit for someone elses work and wont let htc put there name on phone they make. In return they receive the bottom line up.

Actually, none of that is true! The only reason T-mobile has phones that aren't "up-to-par" with other companies' phones is because they are not on a 3g network yet... ๐Ÿ˜ฒ HTC does software installation and partial manufactoring of phones for almost all cellular providers and gets little to no credit for it...including Palm. I bet no knows that HTC does software installation on the Palm phones...anyways, the only PDAs I've seen that were not worked on by HTC are the iPhone series (I say series because there are more than one, for those who are thinking of criticizing this sentence). So, as you can see, the Palm phones are not "the bottom line up" and HTC gets NO credit for those...as soon as T-Mobile launches it's 3G network everywhere they w...

"Mobile launches it's 3G network everywhere they will be pretty close to a superb cellular provider!"

Not entirelly correct because they will still be behind as far as speed. Im sorry to say that you all are bragging about a network now but where were you before you knew tmobile was launching 3g t-mobile wasnt bragging then. you get one descent phone and you want to blow it out of this world. its only a smartphone and the 2nd touch screen t-mobile has. an on top of all that you are REQUIRED to pay an extra $25 or $35 dollars a month to maintain your G1. plus tmobile will be throttling you data usage.

Well, if you had read you would know that T-Mobile has removed that 1GB cap. Also if you had read the fine print about your mighty unlimited data plan you would probably see a 5GB cap as Sprint, Verizon, at&t sll have it. Even Cricket has a cap. It's not always enforced but it is there and can be used if the carriers so decide. About be a child. Children are often considered selfish and inconsiderate. You using that much bandwidth per month is selfish and inconsiderate to anyone on your network. So don't badger me about being a child.

You are assuming that. Do you have clear proof that T-Mobile has or will do that?. The statement simply gives them the option to do that. Sprints reads as follows

"Sprint reserves the right to limit throughput speeds or amount of data transferred and to deny, terminate, modify, or suspend service if usage exceeds 5GB per month in total or 300MB/month while off-network roaming"

It's all just way for carriers to cover their butts in case they do decide to cancel someone. And people have been canceled. Check out sprintusers.com and you will see some threads about it.

First off let me say I never said palm was the bottom line up. I currently own a palm Centro one of the best phones on the market. Secondly I said t-mobile receives the bottom line up of Htc phones. Thirdly i stated in my OPINION the reason why they received such ugly phones is because they put t-mobile instead of htc on there hardware. Im also aware that they are were not a 3g network and thus father behind then everyone else (and still are might i add). But that another topic please make sure u read what i say before u try to twist my words and call me a liar. And the fact that they are a 3g network still does not explain why their phones are so ugly please explain the reason for this.

I think the phone look nice and is different then the super shiney finger print phones that are out today. Phone coverage is different in every area and in my area T-mobile is great and gets more coverage than the most of the other guys. Hes basing his claims on his own bias veiw. Let see who is the rookie I have been in wireless for more than 12 years. I have launched the Sprint PCS network and supported accounts with more than 20,000 devices. I have also worked for T-mobile for years to make sure I have certifed in CDMA and GSM, before I was hired by one of my customers. I control roughly 5000 Sprint/Nextel devices and 1500 T-mobile deployed across 13 countries with a budget that exceeds Well more than you will ever see in you lifetime. So before you make a
