I remember being in a place a couple of years ago where T-Mobile's coverage map showed 4G LTE and literally had no data at all. I called support and whatever map they used showed they had nothing.
I sent an angry letter that included the screen shot from their web site and got absolutely no response. BTW, MetroPCS uses the exact same map with different colors.

I agree that for years now T-Mobile has used very deceptive coverage maps. Not that they are the only ones doing that, but theirs seem to be the most egregious. They have entire areas of coverage marked as “fair“ when in fact these areas contain absolutely no service or unusable service in most cases. Also you have to zoom far in on the map to see detailed coverage... The average consumer might look at a T-Mobile coverage map and think they’re going to have amazing service based on T-Mobile’s deceptive mapping. It’s needs to stop.

I've had the opposite around the Midwest, I'll go places that say they have zero service and it works fine, and it's been that way for over 10yrs with them.
I think maybe i've had the map be overly optimistic, usually it's very conservative, and i've yet to really find anywhere with totally unusable service.

Yeah same here, I've had plenty of "No Service" spots on the map that my phone has still worked fine with 1-2 bars.

In northern NH they are great for stating full bars, and yet there is zip, they insist everything is fine and map is correct, but not the case. Been going back and forth for 2 years with no change in pretty much all of the north here. They even got us to buy new phones, and still no service lol
