While i agree that those things are options (and i may or may not use as well 🙂 ), you have to look at it from the business side. If you are blocking ads, you are cutting down on the revenue stream for both content makers/musicians and the host (google). In order for them to recapture that revenue stream they need to implement a subscription based service - which is what they did.
The whole reason prices go up is because of the spread of "free" options for getting music. What bothers the general public is the musicians that live multi million dollar lifestyles and complain about getting their 15 cents per track, etc. That creates a mentality of "oh i'm not hurting anyone - they're rich!".
