Google today announced YouTube Red, a new video service that will let people enjoy an ad-free experience for $10 per month. The service works online, and on phones and tablets. Videos may be saved on mobile devices for offline playback. It will be possible for videos to play in the foreground as well as the background for listening purposes. Google said a separate YouTube Music app, which will include music videos and artist discovery, will accompany YouTube Red. Google says YouTube Red works with Google Play Music, so subscribers to one automatically gain access to the other. YouTube Red launches on Oct. 28. Google is offering a free 30-day trial so consumers can test the service. Google says member-only original content will reach subscribers early next year. The free, ad-supported version of YouTube will continue to be available online and via mobile devices.
