Prepaid Under Patent Attack
Sure waited long enough....
To make things worse if the carriers DO LOSE you know, it doesn't matter how rich they are. I'm 100% sure that they will pass the bill down to the customers. And in the front line you have me, trying to explain to the customers why they will now be getting less minutes per dollar! (beautiful, I can here the sweet lulaby of customer complaints now.)

The full article says that the suit was filed 5 years ago.
However, if they have held the patent for 11 years like it says, then they really have been sitting on their backsides and taking their sweet freaking time.
You decide.
(I agree with you, they shouldn't get a freaking penny!)

If this company had a patent on these kind of services, why not bring lawsuits against these companies earlier??? I don't think they should get anything. They were basically sitting around waiting to see if prepaid was gonna get big enough that they could profit off of it without having to do the work themselves.

Maybe. That's largely going to be dependant on the exact language of the patent. IANAL, nor have a read the language of the patent, but the article (to me), makes it sound like they're more concerned with the technology involved in billing the services rather than with the idea of prepaid services themselves. The lawsuit was successfully filed against the company responsible for creating the billing system.
You'll notice I said "if".

Exactly. And may I commend you for being the first poster to read/interpret the article properly. This really have little to do with wireless, but more to do with software. The two gentleman were programmers and they wrote a program. The program is commonly used today by several provi...
