Wow.
After the manufacturers' warranty period ends? So if my device is "water damaged" during the 1st year it's not covered. That's not good.
...
I think you are reading this wrong. Only the last part of the sentence applies to after the manufacturer's warranty: "and mechanical or electrical malfunction after the manufacturer's warranty has expired"
This is consistent with T-Mobile's total protection package on postpaid plans, as well as other carriers' insurance programs that also include an extended warranty.
So basically:
-accidental damage-covered during anytime
- mechanical or electrical malfunction coverage-comes into play after manufacturer's warranty

^This. Plus I'll point out it covers lost/stolen phones as well, which means even if you somehow did something to it that would normally void the warranty, you just say it was stolen and you get a replacement. For $8/mo, its a pretty sweet deal. All my T-Mo smartphones have insurance on them (especially my fiances...she's a little....uh, rough with phones XD)
...
If you tell the insurance company that the device is Stolen, they WILL require a police report number to complete the claim.
Make sure you tell them that it was Lost, NOT stolen.

Hm, good point. Fortunately have never had to utilize it yet, but I think its still a good idea to have.
...
A signed affidavit is required for claims that the phone was 'stolen'....which is entirely reasonable as you are in fact claiming that a crime has taken place....but sometimes people actually know for a fact that it was indeed stolen, and in that case it really should be reported as 'stolen'.
As for me...I no longer buy carrier insurance, because I get free mobile insurance because I pay my bill with my credit card...
...
They don't require it anymore
