In alot of sprint internal e-mails and paperwork, it's referred to as the Samsung M610 Glint.
The nickname glint sucks, but at least it's a little easier to say than emm-six-ten.
Suggestions for a better nickname?

I think that is more of a pre-production name for the phone. Like the hybrid phones had code names I believe the ic502 was the Racer while the ic402 was the Racer Lite or something along those lines. If the name of the phone was supposed to stick it would show up the website like that of the RAZR, KRZR, SLVR and FUSIC.

Thanks, KevC84.
That's why I started this thread, to see what people would suggest for the nickname, since the codename sucked as a nickname.
Consumers are dumb, and can't remember anything.
I call this the Kleenex syndrome: A common name or nickname is given to a product, and people will associate similar products to it. Any facial tissue is referred to as a kleenex brand tissue, regardless of its actual brand. Or a product with a nickname is more memorable simply because of the nickname. Hence the RAZR.
People will be more likely to remember a model name rather than it's number.
Example, my girlfriend told me she really would like to get a mercedes, when I asked her which one, she said, "the convertible one, I don't know th...

Customers and fellow employees I asked have suggested:
LAZR (like Dr. Evil's "invention")
Black Ice
The M (like the Q)
V4 (a step up on the v3m)

ya sure do, as i have stated in other posts, im gonna call it the Machete, and i think most people who like/want this phone will agree with me that the name fits this phone well.

That's the one I like the best too.

i think we should just call it the m610

onyx reminds me of pricipal Onyx Blackman from Strangers with Candy 🤣

i think the best name anyone's come up with so far for this phone in this thread in onyx...i just wanted to comment that i think it would be simply poetic for samsung to release a phone identical to this one (e.g., with at least all the features this phone has) except in a slider form factor, and have everyone start calling it the cocoa, as if samsung released to directly compete with lg's chocolate, as sanyo did when they released the katana as a direct competitor against moto's razr

I agree Onyx is pretty cool. However when I show it off to my friends, I call it my "Stealth" phone. First, it's flat black surface reminds me of a USAF Stealth plane - it's non-reflective and vitually invisible at night. 2nd, I drive alot at night in Washington DC where it's illegal to hand hold a cel phone. Now I'm not saying I do that, but after the phone's lights go out (I have it set pretty briefly), it can't be seen by, uh... anyone.
So how 'bout The Samsung Stealth Phone? (as if we're going to influence anyone official here!) 😉
