That's what this is all about. Microsoft is doing this because simply allowing developers to publish shoddy software onto a platform frustrates a large percentage of users. This was commonly the problem with Windows Mobile back in the day (or if I DID have problems it was blamed on 3rd party software... utter BS.)
In other words, it's to keep people from downloading a piece of software that when used as intended may prevent them from receiving text messages, etc.

Microsoft could have a marketplace for approved software without blocking out everything else, just as they once did with the Windows Marketplace for PC software and hardware.

There is no way in hell I'm going in reverse to get a locked down phone. What the hell is the point. Why not just surrender your checking accounts over to microsoft. They're so greedy it sickens me but it doesn't surprise me. Thanks but no thanks, there are alternatives which offer more choice, like Android and dare I say even the iphone has more leg room. That's like saying "all pc's will only be able to load software thru microsoft's online market. well so much for PC being the industry standard.

I like what Microsoft is doing, exactly what it does best. They waited a little while, watched how everything panned out and then started taking the ideas that worked to use as thier own.
Ford designed the assembly line, everyone else uses it because it is the best way to make cars.
Apple designed the modern smart phone(seriously, at this point there is NO QUESTION about this fact.) Everyone else it using the design premise because it seems to be the best way to make phones.
