Why I returned the Droid 2.

The Droid 2 is an awesome device but as many have stated, some of the additions are downgrades from the original Droid. Coming from a fully modded/overclocked Droid 1, it is difficult to be impressed with the Droid 2.

The Droid 2 felt like a first run software device that managed to suffer in the following areas:

-Battery life is pathetic and manages to be worse than the Droid 1.

-After 2-3 weeks with the phone, nearly every app lags.

-Flash support is cool, but causes the browser to crash/freeze daily.

-The cheap loose plastic around the volume rocker drove me nuts.

Verizon refused to send out a brand new replacement, so I simply gave up on the phone.

Froyo (2.2) fried many Droid 1's, and appears to have memory manage...

I am still rocking the OG Droid, but My brother has the Droid2.

-Battery life is directly tied to how much you use Motorola's Blur alternatives to other apps. For example, if you sync facebook/twitter through motoblur instead of installing the app...

Creating Ringtones

I am sorry if this thread has already been discussed, but I did not see it. However, on my last two phones (LG VX-8300 and Voyager), I was able to create ringtones on my computer, email them to my phone, and save them as a ringtone.

I just tried this with the Droid 2, but could not see how to save it to my phone and use it as a ringtone. Is there another way to do it or is there a way to save it?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Soft Reset

My droid resets itself about once a day (sometimes twice) when I am trying to unlock the screen. I will get a new text message or something, push the button on the top and slide over on the screen to unlock, and as soon as I slide it all the way to the right the screen freezes and resets back to the droid startup sequence.

Anyone else have this problem or know of any fix?

Upgrade?

Any word on the Android 2.3 upgrade for the Droid2?

Also curious why there is so little talk about this phone; solid upgrade to the Droid.
No word yet.

There's little talk because the Droid 2 Global has supplanted the original D2 and gets all the love, whereas the original is now the redheaded step child.

Tethering

So I'm just curious--what's the deal with tethering? I know this phone can do mobile hotspot or traditional tethering, and I know Verizon has that as a 20 dollar/month option on their website, but is there a way around this? What is the best program for tethering with a USB cord and how much does it cost? Sorry, pretty basic questions but I'm a new convert to Verizon.

External antenna jack on Droid 2 ?

Time for an upgrade in a month, so I'm starting to educate myself on the Droid 2. In the phone search area, I used as one of my criteria an external antenna connection, as I visit the NC mountains monthly and am presently able to use that feature with my old Voyager and for data with a Pantech UM 175 aircard. Anyway, the Droid is listed as having the antenna jack, and I was hoping the Droid 2 did as well, but cannot find comfirmation. Can anyone help ?

Thanks, and best regards-

Pyzon
Neither the Motorola Droid nor Droid 2 have an external antenna jack. On a droid, there is a service port, but it is not intended to serve as an antenna jack. On a 3g phone, there is little to be gained from an external antenna. See https://supportfo...

I do not recommend this phone

Coming from the original Droid, this phone is a major let down.

I got the droid 2, thinking it was just going to be a minor improvement. The lag on changing screens and opening and closing apps, and the lag in the browser adjusting were all minor annoyances so I figured I would upgrade as this phone has more memory and a faster processor...

Moto claims it listed to its customers to design this phone, but I highly doubt that. Rather than sticking with the stock android UI, they desided to overlay Blur on it. As many people know, Blur sucks, but I am sure moto spent too much money on it to admit that it sucks, so they instead force it on their customers to ruin phones... basic corporate stupidity.

So I went in to getting this phone ...

I think the last line of the engadget review sums it up pretty well:
If you're just looking for the baddest-ass Android phone on Verizon that money can buy, we'd recommend a Droid X or Droid Incredible any day over this, especially since all three ar...

Saving pictures

When someone send you a pic how do you save in gallery so you can resend or just keep
When you're looking at it in the threaded message list. Hold your finger down on pic for a second until an option list pulls up. Then choose the 'copy attached to SD card'. You'll find it in your gallery now under downloads. Hope that helps!

OTA Software Update

I read that VZW is pushing an OTA software update for the Droid2. Every time I go to the update section of settings it says, "Update not available at this time, try again later." Is it my phone/corp IT blocking this, or is it taking a long time to push this out?
Thx.

Family Locator

If you subscribed for the Family Locator service try my Family Locator application for Androids. It emulates web browser to send location request and get result from https://fl.vzw.com but displays it on Google Maps view instead of web page. Also you can pass coordinates to Google Maps/Navigation app.
Search market for Family Locator (V). Try free Demo version first. Before this make sure that location service works for you on official Verizon site https://fl.vzw.com

Is it worth it!?! o_O

I currently own a droid eris, tired of it. wanted an incredible, i feel like its about to get cut off since you hardly hear any buzz about it. its starting to seem old and outdated. This new droid 2 is like the Incridble in a new shell. except from the camera. which i was hoping for at least 8 megapixels. but this fone has all the things i want on my eris lol. But is it really worth the upgrade. am i going to be left high and dry after 6months (refference to eris being dropped in 6 months) will I ever recive an update past 2.2? What will i be getting into when and if i buy this phone.
I got the droid 2.. mine is going back as it cant do some of the basic things the droid 1 can do.. like read html based emails. On the droid I could read these without a problem, on the droid 2 they show as an attachment to a blank email and I get a m...

wifi connectivity issues on secure networks

i cannot connect to any wifi network that iS secured beyond WEP. is this normal? at first i thought it was the phone, then i took it TO several other places and noticed that their networks were secured by WEP only and that i had no problem. at home i had WPA2-PSK set up and though my phone could log in, it kept disconnecting. so i changed my home network to WEP and have had no problems since. shouldn't my D2 be able to connect to WPA?
yes this is normal for a garbage phone like the droid, buy something else and stay away from predator ads claiming the droid is a working smartphone.

Droid 2 work with droid accessories?

im being sent a Droid 2 to replace my 4th droid 1. and i was wondering if anyone knew if the car dock and home dock from my droid 1 will work?

they said it uses the same battery and battery door.
The Droid2 car dock comes with an insert for the Droid1-so your old one prolly won't fit the new one.

wow 4 droids and a new droid 2 sounds like someone has the same problems as me, unfortunatly the droid 2 dosent solve any of your issues.

Loss of WiFi when Front Screen Times Out

Has anyone else found this happening for them. I think it is stupid that it would do this. Is this what it is suppose to do or is my Droid 2 defective?
I don't have that problem. I've had other quirky problems though, like the browser not remembering passwords, or the bluetooth not hooking up. Then I reboot the phone, and it works fine after that.
hit menu button > settings > wireless & networks > wifi settings > hit the menu button > advanced > wifi sleep policy > uncheck 'when screen turns off' and choose 'never when plugged' or 'never'.

the sleep when screen is off option is the default....

your issue will be resolved when you finally learnt o stop buying motorola products. They always have and always will be trash. Get the Samsung Fascinate if you are going to stay with Verizon Wireless. 😲

wallpaper question

how do i get the entire wallpaper to show instead of having to use that little box to crop to an area of the photo? the only answer i could find online was to download the mabilo app and transfer desired wallpapers into mabilo's 'favorites' folder. i tried that and it still cropped the picture. the resolution of the wallpaper i wanna use isn't even larger than 480x800. any solutions? thanks!
The box stretches bigger, you have to drag it with your finger. It is a specific LxW ratio though.

What does any of the Droid 2 owners do to maximize battery power?

What do the Droid 2 owners do to maximize power because I did the battery conditioning..that worked well...but I want to know if there was more that I could do - I think w voice calls, messaging, browsing (not a lot), mp3 playing for bout 30 min plus some game playing got me about 6 hrs total..Talk time was prob about 2.5 - 3 hrs maybe.
1. Firstly, If you have any accounts set up through motoblur (when it asked you if you wanted to sync any accounts after activation) you want to remove them. Motoblur account sync DESTROYS battery. Unless you really love the motoblur all in one wid...
