Nov 15, 2006, 1:00 PM by (staff)
Information about two new Samsung phones for Verizon has recently slipped out. Though both phones run Verizon's standardized interface, they each offer new features. Other than the new features, some of the details have not yet been finalized. It is possible the phones may not launch with all the features listed below:
- U620: This small slider will be one of Verizon's first phones with VCAST Mobile TV, Verizon's branding of the MediaFLO mobile TV service. In addition to TV, the U620 features EV-DO data with VCAST services, stereo Bluetooth, 1.3 Megapixel camera, MicroSD slot, and speech to text voice recognition.
- U740: A dual-hinge clamshell design that can be opened normally for phone use or in landscape for data or texting. The design is similar to the D307 launched on Cingular however this features a more refined keyboard and a much slimmer profile. Features dual color displays, VCAST EV-DO data, a 1.3 Megapixel autofocus camera with flash, Bluetooth and MicroSD slot.

Verizon's standardized interface
Well, it certainly lends itself to familiarity, but who wants to look at the same interface with each phone he purchases?

Will the U-740 have tv?

Great, more places for the phone to break
awesome lookin but Verison will ruin it
I'm impressed with the U740
Speaker phone is though.
I hope it has a loud clear speaker.
I'd like to know how well it will play music and if it will play video. That will determine what size M-SD card to buy. No sense in wasting money...
I can't wait to handle the phone. I hope my chunky thumbs work with the close/small qwerty keys. I don't like the little keys on the Treo.
Is it going to have music/video player?
Smart phone? Outlook sync?
I hope I can flick it open with my thumb, with that hinge.
Verizon fanboys, you can go nuts now. :P

Don't text and drive! (urm)
I have the VX8000 with large tactile keys. Makes it very easy and somewhat safe to text and drive.
Is texting and driving going to be inpractical with these tiny keys :-(
otherwise it looks nice i hope we can add T9 words on the slider (unlike samsungs last phone)
