Viva Movil Opens First Store in Brooklyn
Viva Movil today announced that its first retail store opened on June 11. Viva Movil is a premium retailer of Verizon Wireless goods and services. The launch store is located at the intersection of Flatbush and Atlantic Avenues in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, near the Barclay's Center arena. Viva Movil is a partnership between Brightstar Solutions, for distribution, and Moorehead Communications, a Verizon Wireless retailer. The company was founded by Jennifer Lopez, who serves as its chief marketing officer. Viva Movil looks to cater to the Latino community. Stores will launch in other markets, such as Los Angeles and Miami, throughout the year.

Google today announced a new pilot program that will allow people to pay for goods and services without taking their phone out of their pocket. Hands Free Payments relies on location data, WiFi, Bluetooth beacons, and other sensors to detect nearby participating stores.

Google Doing More to Promote the Best Apps
Google today announced the launch of Android Excellence, a new section in the Google Play Store that highlights the best of the best in terms of apps and games. Google says, "The new collections will showcase apps and games that deliver incredible user experiences on Android, use many of our best practices, and have great design, technical performance, localization, and device optimization." Some of the first apps and games highlighted in the section include City Mapper, Evernote, Golf Clash, Hotel Tonight, Kill Shot Bravo, Pictionary, Pocket, Skyscanner, and Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes.
Verizon Adds LA to Short List of 5G Launch Cities
Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell McAdam today indicated that Los Angeles will be one of the carrier's first 5G markets, and that it will launch during the fourth quarter of the year. 5G is "a lot closer than people think," said McAdam.
