The Garnet OS hasn't been updated in years. And even a few years ago, it was dated when it was released.
The most important thing a new OS would bring to Palm is a multi-threading ability, or the ability to run multiple processes. Your PC does it, most other brands of Smartphones do it, but Garnet does not.

You say they have missed "announced releases", but to be fair to Sprint and Samsung, they have announced nothing. This kind of negative backlash is exactly why they do not announce when they expect to launch phones.
Phonscoop and such sites are good for gathering rumors and un-official information, but don't think that anything you read here is the gospel according to Len Lauer (SprintPCS chief).

Although the silkscreen input area is gone in the lower half, it has been replaced by a much improved four-directional nav pad. Lots of people wonder where text input now occurs. It can take place in the keypad using triple-tap, but for graffiti lovers, you will find that the upper screen now takes graffiti input directly on the display screen.

As for working demos, I personally played with one at CommunicAsia in Singapore in June. It was quite cool, and I even popped in my SD card with some MP3s, which played nicely. I played the tunes through the speakerphone.

The Treo, i500, and i550 can ALL browse any web page using Sprint's Vision data service. The issue is that regular webpages need to be re-structured to fit into the small screen without requiring lots of horizontal scrolling. Usability studies have shown that when people need to scroll horizontally AND vertically to see a page, it is very easy for them to get lost (disoriented) within the webpage. Yes you can use the keypad using triple-tap for alpha text, or you can use the graffiti. The * key changes keypad input from: lower case, sentense case, uppercase, numbers, symbols in a cycle. Most applications are smart about setting the default (ie: memos default to text input, dialing defaults to number input. (re: i500)
