No sound improvement?
I can't believe that no one is talking about it. Does it still utilize the same speaker as the Galaxy S7? No stereo sound? Did Samsung ever tested an HTC smartphone? Of course I'm happy that the left the 3.5mm headphone jack as is, but I was sure that in light of Apples recent sound improvements, that the S8 will have some sort booming stereo sound speakers.
Re: Poor Upgrade
I actually like that it's smaller, it's easier to hold & operate with one hand (I even wish they'd release the G5 in the US, not just the PLUS model). The slightly smaller screen also means a slight bump in dpi, it's now 424 up from 401. Not a biggie, but still a bit sharper. How about the other improvements. Processor is now 2 GHz vs. a 1.5 GHz in the G4, the G5 also boast 3 or 4 GB ...
Re: good review
Another drawback is the screen resolution.
Re: Very nice but...
Huh? Enormous amount? In the last few years, Samsung, LG, Motorola, HTC, Sony, all switched towards 5.0" and larger! Show me one modern phone smaller than 5.0"!! (Except for the iPhone, which so many people still love). I am not against bigger phones. All I'm asking is, give us a choice. Not every phone needs to be that big. Some people have smaller hands. There are so many choices out there for huge phones, some people love phablets, others wanna ...
Very nice but...
These new phones seems to be an excellent choice, although I miss the old camera interface where you can tap anywhere on the screen to snap a pic, and not search for the shutter button. But on the other hand, it's now easier to set focus, similar to Samsung's Galaxy phones. But what I'd really like, is a smaller version of this phone. This size is simply way too large for most people! Why not offer a 5.0" (or better ...
Still not here? we need a dedicated number row on top, please!
I love the recent mid-range affordable phones from Motorola, but think that 5.5" is way too big for most people. All the flagships are OK with 5.0--5.2". They should offer 2 sizes. a smaller one and a larger one, so there should be a choice. Most people will appreciate a smaller size screen.
Isn't it too much?
Hey Samsung, why are you giving this phone a speed of 1.2 GHz? I think 0.3 GHz would be enough. And why a whopping 1.5 GB of RAM? Wouldn't just 450 MB be sufficient? and why 294 ppi, I think that for such a basic phone, 180 ppi is fine.
What about a dedicated number row
What I want (LG & Samsung and many other 3rd party keyboards have it already for years!) a dedicated number row on top of the alphabetic keyboard. That would be a real convenience!
Excactly what we were waiting for (LOL)
We were so eager for the arrival of this phone, because we so much love the high QVGA 320 x 240 quality video recorder, and we sure love when after merely 200 text messages you get a notice "INBOX 80% FULL", and we hate when T9X saves words in your own user dictionary, so bottom line it seems like the perfect phone we've been waiting for many years...
"Touch Wiz" pros & cons
There are some things I love about Samsung phones interface (TouchWiz), and some I don’t like. I wonder why no one is never mentioning anything about these details. Here are the pros and cons compared to other Android devices. Pros: - When pressing the multi-task button and all apps appear, you have a “CLOSE ALL” option. On other Androids if you wanna close all running apps, you must close (swipe) each app individually . - When pressing & holding the power button, ...
I need speed limits
Google keeps answering questions no one asked. The main feature missing from maps - something that all other GPS' (including low priced) feature - is showing speed limits of the roads. When can we expect this, Google?
Will it be backward compatible?
If I send a new emoji to an android 5 phone, what will they see? Also, you didn't mention in the article if the Nexus 7 will get the update (I assume it will).
I need a good phone with a smaller screen. But I hate the fact which manufacturers believe that smaller screens equals less performance. I'd love to have a 4.7" screen phone but I also need a good, fast processor and 3 GB of RAM, and preferably HD resolution.. Why punish people with smaller hands?
Exactly what the world is waiting for!!
I can't stop wondering what LG is thinking. But well, I can't figure it out, so forget it.
What's the point?
Who will this phone cater to? It would've be a nice phone 5 years ago, but today? Rather take a cheap Motorola phone, it offers much more value.
Lerger screen? Huh?
I also hope Samsung reads what I write here. Quote: In response, Samsung it "plans to firmly maintain its sale of premium smartphones by flexibly adjusting the price of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, and launching a new model with a larger screen." End of quote. They have hopes for a model with a larger screen? Isn't that what the NOTE line stands for? If you ask me, they have great potential to offer a new model with rather a SMALLER screen! The ...
5.7" Screen? Answer to the question no one asked
Sounds like a great device, but that huge screen is a big NO NO for me - and for thousands others as well. At least introduce a "mini" version (like 4.7" 1080p screen), but all the same specs as the bigger flagship. I had several Motorola phones in the past, I was looking forward to continue with that brand (especially that the migrate option makes it so easy to switch to a new phone), but too bad. I am not ...
How will the camera compare to the Galaxy S6?
Sony doesn't have the best history of great phone cameras. Will the Z4v be any better? We all know that megapixel count is not any indication. If you compare this phone to the Galaxy S6, you must include a camera comparison as well, since this is one of the best features on the S6.
Who needs it?
This seems like an overkill. Rather give me 11,000 hours of battery.
If only it would be smaller
This phone sounds like almost the perfect thing for me, except for that HUGE size. I would be happy with a 4.7", or TOPS a 5.0". Why so big?? I wish LG releases a mini version with the same components and performance.
Re: Beg to differ
The only real thing missing from all the reviews? Battery performance after 5-6 months. They usually drop drastically.
Will any other carriers get it?
I would like to take it because of the larger capacity battery. But why is it only available thru AT&T? I need it for Verizon and Sprint as well. My biggest complaint with the new S6 is the battery. Would they offer the bigger battery on the regular model (I wouldn't mind a drop thicker phone) it would be top of my list.
Re: samsung design idiots
The missing SD card I can still swallow, you have at least an option to purchase a 128 GB version (although for much more $$$ than an SD card) and online solutions; but the battery?? What the heck were they thinking? making a smaller battery than the S5 with a screen that sucks much more battery, and not removable? I would gladly take a phone a bit thicker which last a few more hours!! It's so silly! and who's ...
How will it work without phone
I wonder how these systems will work without a phone? Assuming you don't have a smartphone, or you forgot your phone at home? So no more GPS? Will the interface go back to the 1990 era?
I love the interface
Somehow it appeals to me. Especially the camera app, but everything else is nice as well. I also very much like the fonts they use. Nice & sharp! I wish Google adopts a similar interface for Android stock.
I'm with you, Joel. Very disappointing that Motorola went with the ultra big size. Everyone's running to those bigger sizes, and although I understand that there is where they probably make the most profit, it's still a shame that Motorola should not distinct itself the way it used to be, like the Droid4 with a physical keyboard, the original Moto X with a smaller screen, and so on. I am also disappointed that they can't get the camera right. Always ...
Where is the speed limit function?
The only important function Google maps is still lacking (compared to its competitors) is speed limit indicator. Can't wait for that!! Meanwhile I must still use my Garmin along with Google maps :(
The only 2 things I'd changed
I'd improve 2 things on this mini to make it perfect: MINI should stay mini, maximum 4.3", that makes it easier to hold and better ppi, and second, processor speed at least 1.7 or 1.8 GHZ.
I am very angry on those phone manufacturers. Why do they think that people with smaller hands that want a more slim phone wants slower performance as well? Why do all "mini" phones downgrade to slower processors and less memory? That's so sad.
Re: Make it smaller and faster!
Yeah I also think the same. Why do these companies think that smaller screen lovers want slower machines as well? I bought my Droid Mini only because of that reason, it shared the same underpinnings that the larger brother the MAXX & Ultra! I don't need the best camera, and a 4.3" 720p screen is more than large enough for me; but why drop processor speed from 2.3 GHz to 1.2?? That's too much of a sacrifice. I'd rather pay ...
I thought at first that AT&T offers the airbus A380 aircraft..........
That's why Google requests phone #?
Isn't the main idea of Google talk / Hangout to be able to chat anonymously? Just link the app to your gmail account and you're all set? Who needs SMS? Is Google again answering a question no one asked? We already have SMS, BBM, WhatsApp and more apps for these kind of messaging, Hangout is a different animal, and I am annoyed by the direction Google is taking it.
The biggest mistake: Screen resolution!
All other so-called mini phones with the 4.3" inch size screen feature a 720p HD screen. Not the old dated qHD that Samsung offers here. This is a big mistake!!
With all the updates, I still does not see the option of turning that freakin' conversation view OFF, as it has been requested from thousands of Gmail users. #Frustrated.
Re: No MicroSD = No Sale!
I guess SanDisk & Transcend are going out of business, while Dropbox & Microsoft Skydrive are in. Shame
Where is my Droid 5 ???
I have been waiting for the Droid 4 update almost 2 years! I need better quality display, Android 4.2 (or 4.3), faster processor, longer battery life, and more. So is that the end of physical keyboard smartphones? Come on, Motorola!!!
I really don't need all my private messages to be available to hackers
Worthless for me
Google should please respond to user request! the number #1 request (as you can read on the user reviews) is, add the ability to turn OFF conversation view. No. #2 request: the ability to attach files other than pictures or videos! Is that so difficult for Google?
Please fix the few flaws
LG, well done, Now if only you rather give us a 6 megapixel camera instead (the less pixels the better the photo if no need to enlarge), and make the battery last a bit longer, even at the expense of being a bit thicker, and upgrade to Android 4.2, that could be the new flagship of Sprint!
