Re: simple, slim flip phone w/2 displays?
I agree...
Go with the Samsung A310 or even the 530.
As phones get smaller, manufacturers are trying to "impress" the public with how many features and bells & whisteles can they fit into a smaller phone. Unfortunately, you are right about sacrificing the battery life. Even the vibration mode drains the battery 2-5% faster and the phones with GPS location always ON, drain another 5% faster.
New phones will be coming out in 2004 and they will be slimmer.
Re: LG VX6000 Reception
If you like the camera capability, go with the Audiovox CDM-8900
Samsung To Be Tested - Impressive.
This phone is active in Asia and expected testing in U.S. will begin in June/July 2004. Please note, not all phones make it into production and this is only a test for the phones capability on The Verizon Wireless network.
A cellular phone is now available that lets you listen to music, record video and even control certain electronic products. Samsung's new camcorder phone, capable of storing up to two hours of video streams, is slated to be tested in ...
Nokia and CDMA News...
:D
This is for everyone needing to know about Nokia and what issues they face on the CDMA Network, where their vision of the future is headed, and helps explain why Verizon Wireless looks at Nokia to improve the phones on the CDMA side.
From CDG (CDMA Development Group)...
During the second half of 2003, Nokia's CDMA business reached a number of new milestones relating to both handsets as well as next-generation technology development. During this timeframe, Nokia has begun shipments ...
Re: V60 does not work next to other phones.
*18 "resets" the phone in the system (Re-registers).
Must be in VERIZON DIGITAL coverage for *18 to work
Re: V60 does not work next to other phones.
With the updated software and PRL (*228), doesn't really do much to enhance reception or pull "more" signal in. A lot of techs use the software and PRL updates as scapegoats for everything.
Sorry to say, I am not familiar with your area.
The problems I've seen on the StarTac series is the ribbon cable that runs between the flip part gets loose, the antenna is either broke or loose and needs to be tightend, or the antenna clip (inside the ...

I have personally used and tested the Samsung SPH-i700. I found this phone to be the closest thing that a corporate user will need, if using Verizon Wireless as the carrier, but still has some "family-oriented" features.
I prefer PalmONE devices for stability, but this Samsung uses Windows powered PocketPC. Some corporate users like Windows powered phones because they can store and sync documents from work to home and vice-versa.

Re: Attn: Big Poppa - 8900 back on shelves when?
We have been told to flash our inventory and sell the CDM-8900 phones. They are already on our shelves here in Texas.
I found out that it IS up to the store manager's, and at their discretion, on what phones they put on their shelves, as long as they are approved handsets. The managers, if an approved phone has issues, has the right to stop selling and pull the phone until the required updates or changes are made.
Check your local ...
Re: Verizons future?
We, as technicians, USED to have the ability to put in someone's physical address and find what coverage they have exactly (not a "forecasted" map), and we used to see EXACTLY where the cell sites are in that given area.
The reason I say used to, is because 2 months ago, Verizon changed their intranet and now the maps are only updated every quarter, instead of every two weeks.
I can tell you that you can call customer service, or visit ...
Companies And Their Beginnings
Cingular Wireless...
BellSouth
SBC
Pretty much 5 companies within the SBC infrastructure.
Guess what? Using T-Mobile partner sites for GPRS and GSM Network)
Verizon Wireless...
AirTouch
PrimeCo
Verizon Communications
Vodafone
(Partner contracts with Cingular and AT&T Wireless during Analog Mode)
Moobak, those are your facts.
Maybe hard to swallow, but are true

I appreciate your postings, down right amusing at times, but I do appreciate them.
Independent studies have put Verizon Wireless OVER Cingular because of customer base. I NEVER said it was better or it was right. I said Cingular should be TIED with Verizon.
I know, for a FACT, that Cingular is working to build the TDMA better. I still have friends who work for Cingular, including at cell sites. EVERY company strives and works to be better, including Cingular and ...
Re: The Arrogance of Verizon
LOL LOL LOL
Ummmm...PrimeCo is one of the companies merged to become Verizon Wireless! Along with AirTouch, etc.
And WorldComm? -- LOL -- is MCI, parent of SPRINT!!!
AT&T had TDMA (Still does) and BellSouth, SBC, etc, TURNED to AT&T when forming to build off the TDMA network and formed Cingular Wireless. In 2001, AT&T separated to claim AT&T Wireless and pulled some of their licenses for cell sites and more to follow as the contracts run out on those ...

Re: The Arrogance of Verizon
Yes, I am a cell phone technician for Verizon Wireless in Texas, and previously held the same title of technician at Cingular Wireless for two years.
I am in NO way bashing competitors (That to me is like saying Pepsi is better than Coca-Cola). Since working for both companies, I've seen their plans for the future. I am in no blaming, nor stating, Cingular (Whom by the way AT&T Wireless WAS a part of in the beginning, then split) for ...
Re: Audiovox CDM-8900
Audiovox CDM-8900 Software
Release T095VEDT20_0.189
Description of modification...
1. Browser client ID has been changed to MIN.
2. Changed the PPP User ID to MDN@vzw3g.com.
3. WAP should prefer 1X and default to QNC if 1X is not available or not provisioned.
Overall, these were important fixes and was advised to stop sales until phones were updated.
Very nice phone!!
Re: Trial Period?????
Thank you, robbie0517 for clearing that up.
Yes, the WFG does NOT apply to indirect or phones even purchased on eBay. Those phones are considered "Customer Owned" and ONLY have a 1-year manufacturer warranty, with receipt. Some indirect stores still sell phones, even AFTER Verizon has stopped selling a model for a while.
And yes, only ONE exchange PER 15 DAYS!! I saw that my message wasn't clear on that. You can buy a new phone AFTER the 15-day period ...
Re: Audiovox CDM-8900
The software the phone originally came with, then an update.
Audiovox CDM-8900
There is a new software version ALREADY out for the Audiovox CDM-8900 tri-band camera phone.
Some stores pulled the phones from their inventory and shelves, per Audiovox, UNTIL the phones were flashed with the software. If you purchased this phone, check with your local Verizon Wireless retail store (with a technician) and see if your phone needs updated.
I will post the new version number and what it fixes tomorrow.
Re: Trial Period?????
You are right on one point, and wrong on the other.
Verizon systems CAN see how many changes were done to a phone line, which DOES include the ESN numbers. I had an account which showed 30 different ESNs in 2 years. Our system only allows 3 ESN changes on an account per 24 hour period, or 3 changes period to the account. Example, adding voicemail is 1 change, then deciding later that day you don't want voicemail, that's now ...
Re: Vrz website, what's up?
Yes...Nokia does sell a LOT of GSM and TDMA phones for other carriers, HOWEVER...
Other manufacturers of cell phones for CDMA (i.e., Motorola, Samsung, etc.) use the Qualcomm CDMA chip. Nokia has "ventured" out to create their OWN CDMA chip was is not up to Verzin Wireless' standards. As you know, phones go through EXTENSIVE testing BEFORE hitting the Verizon Wireless sales floor, for better quality on the network. The Nokia 3595i HAS gone through such testing and guess what...It ...
Re: The Arrogance of Verizon
I agree. Verizon Wireless have forked over a lot of money toward the data side of it's CDMA network (Where are the other carriers going?, NOWHERE fast).
The Verizon Wireless 3G testing in California, from actual reports I've gotten, has shown speeds CLOSE to T1 speeds, don't don't give up your Cable Modem, DSL, etc. just yet. I said "close", but they are not there yet.
When Cingular and AT&T Wireless realized that their TDMA system did NOT support data, let ...
Re: Motorola v60s or LG
As a Verizon Wireless cell phone technician, the V60s has given us fewer problems, as of date (hint, stop breaking the antenna though  ).
In response to the V60s not available in California yet, just wait. It will be available soon. Californians have the luxury right now of testing the new 3G high speed technology, giving speeds up to T1 on the data side.
New things are coming from Verizon Wireless. Audiovox released (Not new to some areas) the ...
Re: LNP BASHING
It does no good to bash any carrier for something that is new to the industry. Issues will ALWAYS come up with everything. People bash Ford, then they buy a Chevrolet which may have MORE problems.
No carrier is perfect! and I mean NO carrier. Once the education of this philosphy is out there, then people will understand that only 6-7 years ago, you HAD to be home to get a call. Then they bashed RICH people for having portable ...
