Mungojerrie submitted this review of the Sanyo Katana / SCP-6600:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

We got this phone for our tween. We chose it because of the price and the fact that it is sturdy and almost unbreakable. She loves the camera and she doesn't need a QUERTY keyboard at this point, so the keypad is enough for now. We got it in pink.

We bought it through kajeet.com - I think it was $49.99, but there's a promo code right now for 15% off (FAMILY15).

Pros: sturdy, inexpensive for what you get, good sound quality, lightweight

Cons: no QUERTY keyboard, only 3 colors

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

ssarahssmith submitted this review of the Sanyo Katana / SCP-6600:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

The most amazing thing I like about this phone is the capability of recording a message that tells you who is calling. When I get a call I don't even have to look at the phone, I can just hear "call from so and so" and know whether I want to answer it or not. I cannot find another phone through Sprint that does this so if anybody knows which ones will do this please let me know. Until then I will keep this phone that I dearly love.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I have dropped it numerous times and it still works although the battery falls out on collision. I have never dropped a call and have only been out of service a few times. However now from all the wear and tear the charger does not fit quite in and falls out a lot.To receive a picture you have to use the web browser which is a additional charge. IF you download ring tones the quality is bad & low although the default ringers are plenty loud. All in all it is a good phone but times are a changing and it does not have the features all the new phones have. I will be upgrading this month!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

btimberlake submitted this review of the Sanyo Katana / SCP-6600:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I had this Katana for almost two years. A year and ten months to be exact. I bought a Samsung instinct as an upgrade.

I liked the Katana since the first time I saw it. I like the nice dark blue color which is the one I chose. I thought it was cool how you had three different colors to choose from. My dad was with me for the upgrade mainly cause he was my ride there and he's the account holder. He seemed to have a slight intrest in the Razor and suggested that I get that because Motorolla is reknown for making good phones.
In the long run Im glad I chose the Katana because its got some features the Razor didnt. I think the menu is easier to understand than the razors and in text messaging settings menu you can create a signature.

I loved this phone. The t9 was great and I miss texting with it since I now have the instinct. I would go with another from the katana series.

Pros:
-great t9, plus you can add words
-easy to use
-various ways to customize your phone (wall paper, signature for texts, logo on the screen saver, etc.
-can customize ringtones for contacts
-cool ringers
-liked how when i would acidentally hit the end key trying to push a letter it would pop up a warning box
-could snooze without being touched
-VERY WELL BUILT! dropped it a lot and never cracked the screen. only once when i dropped it i broke something inside so the screen went black
-very thin/cool design
Cons:
-no camcorder
-didnt seem to have enough memory if you downloaded a lot of stuff
-to make room to store stuff like ringers when it got to be to full it would start taking away the # of characters avab for a text

I liked this phone but I also like to be up-to-date with techonology whenever possible. I upgraded from this to the instinct. I wish this phone had had a camcorder. Had a total of three different katanas. I only ranked it 4.5 because it didnt have a camcorder.
Overall its a great phone. Served me well

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I heard about it from a friend who said it was better than a Razr. With Qwest's switch to Verizon, though, I need to get a new one.

Pros:
I loved the camera. The quality and size were great.
Keypad is nice and sleek, and not like the annoying buttons the Razr has.
Texting was good. (I'm fifteen--texting is a big deal for me.)

Cons:
You can't send the pics you have in, "Saved to Phone"
Internet connection drops constantly.
Ringtones suck
Vibration is loud and annoying. In school, I have to have it on silent or it will be heard.
It's hard to flip open.
For me, at least, the screen scratches easily.

That's all. :)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I never had any problems at all. It was easy to use and had alot of cool features. This phone grows attached to you. I would keep but unfortunately I am switching to Verizon next month and have a limited time with my beloved katana.

Pros:
Good speaker & ear piece
easy keypad
great alarm system
cool ringtones
phone charm hole
clear screen
great camera
slim and easy to fit in tight places
sparkles in the sun
decent reception
hardly any dropped calls
clear if there is a missed call/text
easy to clean out
decent battery life at times
charges quickly

My stupid problems:
not too great purchased ringtone sound
no video recorder
small sub screen
Not the most beautiful appearance
blue-tooth to connect to the computer

I would definitely recommend this phone!

Jewelynn24 submitted this review of the Sanyo Katana / SCP-6600:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

I actually LOVED this phone. However twice with the same model it would start registering that I had a headset plugged in when I did not and it would not let me speak into the speaker for this reason. So, I took it in twice to be serviced and both times I was told the same thing that it had water damage. The technician told me that she had seen it often with certain models of phones that even humidity in the air can cause the corrosion. So, I got rid of the Katana. Be aware that this issue may arise if you chose to go with this phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

(I could not find exactly what the pixel size is for the Katana.) The clarity is terrific, and i have even sent them to be developed, like any other digital pictures, into real photos and they have come back sparkling. Also love the choices of setting for various light conditions, and the zoom, neither of which my new fancy Samsung Instinct with its 2 mega camera has (very frustrating).

Screen is also great for viewing the pictures. I can only hope that the newer Katana models (the II and the DLX and LX) that have now come out have either maintained the photographic capabilities or improved them even more!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

killmeimbill submitted this review of the Sanyo Katana / SCP-6600:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I originally bought this phone off of a friend after my Treo 600 died (another good phone). I really did not have high hopes but I was proven wrong. My only true problem with this phone is that the ringers are not very loud. This does not bother me as much as it would some people because my phone is on vibrate the majority of the day anyways. Internet speed is a little above average. The phone it self has a nice look and feel to it, the flip opens and closes with a firm, almost "authoritive", click. The built in camera, although with out flash, takes images that are acceptable. I get really good reception everywhere except when I am underground (basements, parking garages, etc.). I really like the button devoted for speaker phone. I get fairly good battery life (I use the phone quite a bit and do a lot of texting and internet usage). One small thing that the phone does not have but would be nice is a slot for microSD cards but once again this does not bother me too much because the phone's memory is extremely capable for what little I do save on it. All in all this is a really great phone and they can be gotten for a fairly good price now that there are other models available.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

But...

It may not have a QWERTY key board but the texting isnt bad at all. I read reviews saying the keys were "slippery" and especially hard with long nails. But screw that because I have long nails and find no problem with this phone.

There may be no flash on this camera but its quality I have found to be quite excellent.

The internet has a great reception. I am able to send pictures and IM without a problem in the world.

I have yet to drop a call in my year and a half of having this phone and always seem to have reception when my friends don't.

So overall the only thing I don't like about this phone is that, well come to think of it I actually like this phone aton and dislike it not one bit.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The phone sank at the boat dock and I could not find it. After about a minute there it was. I couldn't have taken the battery off faster. phone sat in the back of my truck for about 2 weeks with covers open and flip open. Was ready to get new one and thought what the hell. Put battery on the phone works perfectly. It as been 2 weeks and well to say the least all those out there complaining. You've got nothing.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I love it!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

FractalZone submitted this review of the Sanyo Katana / SCP-6600:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I wanted a mid-range phone that was sturdy, reliable and had a camera and speakerphone capability. My local Sprint store manager recommended the Katana. She knows her customers and knows her phones!

I've had the phone since the beginning of the year and it has been dropped on pavement a few times -- no problems. It has *NEVER* dropped a call. The sound quality is much better than I expected.

Sure, it isn't "full-featured" -- no ASCII keyboard, no stereo speakers, no electric dog polisher, etc. But I didn't want that stuff to begin with. It does everything I want a cellphone to do.

Sprint has been a much, MUCH better service provider than Verizon Wireless. Better reliability, better customer service and better tech support are what I have come to expect from Sprint compared to Verizoff.

My next cellphone is likely to have all the bells and whistles, but I won't buy it until I really feel the need to have decent 'Net access over my phone. (I don't even have Web service enabled on this one.) Since I don't send text messages -- I'll leave that to the kiddies -- the only reason I would want a full keyboard or a better display would be to hit the Web a lot.

I just ordered a data transfer cable for this Katana and expect to play around with it using Bitpim, not that it really needs any hacking to improve it.

Sprint gets two thumbs up!
The Katana gets two thumbs up!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

icifresh911 submitted this review of the Sanyo Katana / SCP-6600:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

The Phone is HOTT!!! I think any Sanyo phone is a great phone to have simply because it's almost unbreakable. I know I drop my phone at least twice a week (and I'm not the only one out there) and every Sanyo phone I've had has passed the test. Now on to the Katana....

PROS:
~GREAT RECPTION!!!!!!!!
~Bluetooth works like a charm.
~Screen is huge and well lit.
~Even when I'm in weird places my phone hardly ever roams.
~Size does matter! At least when it comes to phones. I like them small and sleek and that's what I got.
~Inexpensive (especially now that it's been out a while).
~Battery Life. I put my phone on the charger every night and by the end of the next day my battery never gets under 2 bars. I love it!

CONS:
~VOLUME! It could stand to be up a couple of notches.
~The camera is okay. I've had better. Hmm, double meaning there...Okay...
~ The cover that covers the battery (too many covers there, lol) is so not...I can't think of the word...um....strong enough. There it is! It comes of too easily.

See you guys the pros out weight the cons. And believe me it's the truth. I just learned about this whole "phone scoop" thing and if I would have been signed up for it like years ago when I had some jacked up phones I would have let the world know and then you to could feel my pain. I do have Sprint and I love them. I had Cingular for a while and it was a total night mare. Anyway I won't get started on that. But if you want a phone the does everything a cell phone is suppose to do plus add in extra style and fun and games then the Katana is what you need. Holla.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
