narn3049 submitted this review of the Palm Treo 700w / 700wx:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I gave this a 2.0 just because of the durability. It is only because my uncles boss who is a construction worker dropped it off for him to give to me as he knows I like tech, it was absolutely dented and scraped, and the whole verizon logo off the back but the V was scraped off, stylus was heavily scraped and it was taped together. I wasn t expecting it to power on, but I slipped in my 700p's battery and it fired right up. It went to the Palm logo and then displayed the windows logo and all of that, and I was considering a faceplate change and a possible switch to this phone. However I needed my Palm 700P so I switched back the battery.

Took it out again and put it in the 700wx and the phone remained at the windows mobile logo. I can tell you that this is not a "wear issue" it's a common problem. So basically I just recycled this phone. I got a RAZR now and sold my 700p. if your looking for a reliable Palm PDA phone don't get this, if you want many reset hole pushes, and touchscreen and boot freezes get this. Its a typical windows phone, the PALM version was pretty good, honestly.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

peewizzle submitted this review of the Palm Treo 700w / 700wx:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

like one of my arms and legs, this phone was always by my side. i love everything about it! ever since i laid my eyes on it when it arrived at verizon stores i was taken back. so now that its long and gone in my memories i will review it for everyone!

PROS
-TYPING on it is AMAZING you will very rarely mess up a word, unless you are under the influence of a certain liquid substance.
-RECEPTION was GREAT! in concert with the vERIZON network this was an unbeatable pair (at the time).
-OPERATING SYSTEM was GREAT i had the windows mobile version and WOW it was as if i had my computer in the PALM (pun VERY intended) of my hands.
-sounds and tones were great! very good package and with the windows mobile OS i could use MP3 as any of my alerts.
-VERY VERY durable oh gosh! although it cannot survive from an attack from my front driver side tire (dont ask how i ran it over) this phone can get dropped and still get up and take on the world.

CONS
-SCREEN was very big let down i was expecting great colors and resolution like with the PALM OS version of the 700 but the windows mobile OS somehow lacked
-the small buttons are not so great on the eyes, unless youve memorized key locations or know qwerty by heart, typing may be difficult at times. (or if you have big fingers)
-SIZE wow i could barely place the phone into my jean and pant pockets without someone saying WHOA, whats that@!!!
-after months of use the case and coloring of the keys will start rubbing off...but then again i am a power user texting emailing and browsing up a STORM.

OVERALL
I LOVE THIS TREO if PALM will come out with another style of the 700W i could get it hands down. not a fan of the small CENTRO or the PRE so hoping PALM will go back to their roots so i may join the family again.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

HouDat submitted this review of the Palm Treo 700w / 700wx:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I needed one device that:
was a phone
accessed my Exchange email
synced my Outlook contacts
synced Word and Excel files
had a fast browser

The Treo 700wx does all that, and I bought it for $66 on Ebay. I already had a WM pda so I knew what Windows Mobile could do. I can now carry all of the information I need for work, and can access my company network from anywhere Sprint has coverage from one device.
It's a steep learning curve but once you learn the shortcut buttons, you can access most of the features you need very quickly.
It has locked up on me a couple of times in the month and a half since I've had it, but you can keep that to a minimum by being careful about how many programs are running at the same time. The buttons are close together but if you're careful you can type a decent email with a minimum of typos.
All in all, it's a great device for what I paid.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

tiffanyk2435 submitted this review of the Palm Treo 700w / 700wx:

Overall rating: 0 (out of 5)

At first I thought this phone was great. It had everything I wanted. I could check my email, search the web, and schedule everything I needed. And, it has media player so I could get all my songs from a memory card onto my phone. It was great for whenever I wanted my music.

Then the tide turned.

The phone started freezing. It will ring and won't let me answer. It will go into roaming in my home network but won't allow any calls in or out. Resetting the phone and taking the battery out won't fix that problem at times.

So, I decided to get the phone replaced. Thinking it was a glitch. Sorry, same problems and more. I will call someone and it will say it is dialing but won't connect. It will say someone is calling but won't play the ring-tone. When I finally get the phone to work properly, the person will say they tried calling 20 minutes prior.

I keep the phone fairly clean. I use the calendar, media player (all on the memory card), camera, and text. I sync it to my computer often and delete what I don't need. The phone is junk! I have had two now and they have both done the same crap. Yes, I am bitter. I did not pay this much for a phone that messes up as often as this one.

Please, with all the wonderful phones out there, don't buy this one and waste your money.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

CatchingKatie submitted this review of the Palm Treo 700w / 700wx:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I got this phone about 6 months ago and really liked it at first. It has an awesome Calendar system (as you'd expect from Palm!) and I enjoy the Windows operating system. Texting is easy..this was my first QWERTY phone and I'll never go back!

However, I've really started to have problems with this phone. When in a call, I consistantly put the call on "Hold" with my cheek on accident (4 out of 5 calls this happens). You can disable the touch screen during calls, but then can't use ANY of its features such as checking your schedule to make an appointment over the phone. Also, the power button has become unreliable. Sometimes, I have to push it 9 or 10 times before the phone finally decides to respond.

My BIGGEST problem with this phone (as I'm an avid texter) is that if I write a text, hit send, and turn the phone off, it DOESNT SEND THE TEXT. Sometimes hours later, when I wonder why I haven't recieved a reply and turn the phone on, it immediately tells me "Message Sent", and its THEN that my recepient gets my message. In order to send a text, i have to hit send and then wait (anywhere from 3 to 10 seconds, roughly) for it to send the message before I can power the screen down. This becomes a hassle when I'm in a hurry! Also, for the first time today, I reached over and turned the screen on and immediately recieved notification that I had recieved a text message...over an hour ago! It never notified me in any way prior to turning on the phone (even though the speaker was on, etc)

Its become such a pain in the butt. I'm looking for a new phone now. I've had enough.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

saa001 submitted this review of the Palm Treo 700w / 700wx:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I have tried MANY phones from different carriers even. I WAS a believer in Blackberrys but have since regained my senses (getting email ALL the time was becoming tiresome).

PROS:
FANTASTIC RECEPTION, I have never had a phone that gets reception like this phone does. Even in areas where I had poor signals with other phones, this one keeps on going and never gives a problem.
Touch screen
Able to play media files
Stable WM5
Lots of add in programs available
Touch screen
Calendar function is good
Voice commands

CONS:
Battery life sucks. I got the extended battery *(2600mah) and may go for the ultra extended (3200mah). The regular battery just didn't last enough (down to 35% at the end of the day). With the extended battery I at least only get down to about 55%-60%.
Would like update to WM6 but not necessary, WM5 is stable.

I can't say enough about the signal strength. In my home I don't have a land line and rely solely on cell phones. Others would give me occasional problems and had a signal strength that was one to two bars. With the 700wx, I get 4-5 bars ALL THE TIME and have not had a single problem with reception. Not ever.

The PDA functions are great (although I added a couple of programs, one being OGG Sync to sync with my Google calendar, a must have add on for those who use Google calendar).

I left the blackberry line because I was tired of getting email at all times of the day and night. Now I just select to check my email when I want to. BBs are great but the constant email just became tiresome.

The only reason I am marking this unit down from a 5 rating to a 4.5 is because of the battery life. Would I like WM6 on this? Yes I would but WM5 has been very stable for me. I have not had the lockup issues that others talk about (I do a warm reset of all my phones once a day at night when I go to bed).

This is a great phone. I hope the 800w improves on this but it will be hard for them to do that.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

lremy22 submitted this review of the Palm Treo 700w / 700wx:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

This phone is equivalent to having a mini laptop and a phone in one. I mean it does everything it works with gps receiver to act as a navigation tool for driving and it is turn by turn voice guided. I use it at school to write papers when a computer is not available, have never dropped a call if you do lose signal it lasts for about 5-10 seconds. Call quality is perfect.

Pros:
Windows mobile(allows easy syncing with pc/mac)
large keyboard for easy typing and texting

nice size screen and is easy on the eyes
body is tough and durable

locks easily so phone does not dial while in your pocket

tons and tons of extras available for phone
quickly updates email to your phone when they arrive

you can do everything on this phone what else can I say
list goes on and on

cons:
when you have multiple calls you have to hang up on both to end even just one call

sometimes when you make a call the person your speaking to may not be able to hear you but all you have to do is put them on speaker and that will fix that and then you can take them off

Conclusion:
this phone is great unless your real picky I don't see what cannot be done on this phone I love and i have no regrets. Thanks Palm :)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I was told I could run powerpoint and other applications through an output cable to a projector. wrong neither 700w or p had cables available. Disapointing. Phones were cool but problems with phone call drops phone lockup, answered phone but it would keep ringing etc, I kept trading the phone back in but only to have more problems with phone function as well as syncing. It didnt matter which operating system i used even though I found the palm operating system more stable but phone function still unacceptable. I wander if they have ever corrected problem? I switched to a Blackberry 8830 and I love it but it still lacks some things as well but the phone function works great.Don't waste your money and you will waste hours in frustration. if you buy one buy the purple pill as well...you will need it

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Asian Guy submitted this review of the Palm Treo 700w / 700wx:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

The phone is awesome, its not as easy use as the palm os but the windows os is easy to use aswell. I noticed the contact list only allows for one mobile number you can text too. I dont know how to change that so I can have two or more cell numbers. I have friends that have company and personal phones so I need two entries but thats small stuff. i just create two profiles for them. Battery life is awesome, as advertised, it will last three days of regular usage. Palms uses too much power and i am thinking it has to do with the screen resolution sucking the life out of the battery hahaha 320x320 vs 240x240.

I have had a 650 in the past and it was a good phone but battery problems as it would only get a life of 30 text and it would kill there battery from 100 to 15 life left. The most important thing to note is the palm sync program does not work as it will not sync 100 percent of all the info on your phone. I learned the hard way as i lost 100 contact profiles out of the 150 or so i had. The rebot of the phone while on a call or playing music using the speakers. As far as the 700wx goes, its got its small stuff bad stuff but nothing as serious (i consider serious) as data loss. Windows os is way better then the palm os. Takes sometime to get use to it but its great once you get use to it and there is nothing to it.

People make it sound like the palm and windows ease of use is mile apart but they are full of it. Its so marginal. Both are simple to us and if you cant learn both then you are over your head in tech and they should go back to a flip phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

cd717 submitted this review of the Palm Treo 700w / 700wx:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I have been considering an upgrade to a PDA/Smartphone for quite awhile and was never really satisfied with any of the the phone options on the market. Nothing really grabbed my fancy, but eventually I narrowed the two choices down to the TREO and the Blackberry 7130e. I chose the TREO and am very happy with my selection.

Having not been familiar with the Palm OS, I went with the WM version. All my major apps (calender, e-mail, IE) are available on the today screen. Finding apps or documents is very easy and if you are familiar with windows, then WM is not too far a stretch to learn.

Only issues with this phone is 1) its reception, I had a Motorola RAZR previous to this and could take it ANYWHERE and still have signal. My TREO does not have an antenna that can compete I suppose, I usually don't have much signal in my apt so I had to get a house phone to be able to talk indoors. :(

2) The microphone in the TREO picks up EVERYTHING during my conversations, several people commented that noises in the background came through clearer and much louder than my own voice which is right next the the mic. I eventually broke down and bought a bluetooth headset to help with the problem.

3) Lastly was the holster, I don't like to carry my phone in my pocket and I have yet to find a holster that I like (I have actually had to replace the phone after it fell out of the holster and hit the concrete floor where I was at - highly recommend insurance if you have one!).

While it would appear that I don't like this phone based on the pros/cons that I have written, don't get me wrong, I wouldn't go back to life without it for anything!!! I've had it for 6 months now and love it, not sure how I survived without it before. :)

Pros:

Ease of use
Great Battery Life - have an extended battery (a must with bluetooth)
Bluetooth capable

Cons:

Reception is not as good as my RAZR (what is???)
Mic is not as clear
Holster could use some work

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

mr.flyinhigh submitted this review of the Palm Treo 700w / 700wx:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

My decision to upgrade to a PDA phone was job related and I figured that it would simplify my day. After reviewing available information on all of the available Verizon PDA phones, I came to the conclusion that the 700wx was the phone for me. I am overall very impressed with this machine, despite what many people might have to say about the complexities of the operating system, it isn't that bad. If you are willing to sit down for the good part of a day off and play with it, with the manual in your lap it'll come to you much easier. If you have never owned a PDA phone, and you try to use this thing right out of the box without reading the manual...have fun with that!! The battery life is outstanding and the overall speed is great as long as you restart the machine every so often (just like you do with your computer at home) and make sure the "running programs" list is kept to a minimum. These are things that I have learned on my own from using the machine; and overall I am very pleased with my decision to go with this model. For anyone who is considering one of these, but are shy of things that are too technically advanced, this machine is definitely not for you...I know they are pretty to look at, and they make you look sophisticated, it'll be a never-ending nightmare to use if you aren't willing to dedicate the time and energy required to familiarize yourself with something of this caliber.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

JimMLINY submitted this review of the Palm Treo 700w / 700wx:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Not for the technologically challenged; but, if you're a little bit hip this is a fun device. Excellent tool for professionals.

Learn the WM 5.0 OS and the programs native on the device before you start adding apps, tweaks and freeware.

This is a PPC and phone more for the professional on the go than it is a toy for students - it can be tweaked for student phone but one must be savvy to do so.

First apps should be the free ons from Palm site Sprite Backup 5.0, Treo Community Reset and Magic Button.

Phone and internet connection are excellent in the tri state area of NY where I work and play.

PROS
Design and form

Battery life when managed which can be done without third party app.

EVDO speed

Many third party apps and developer freeware for utilities, work and play.

Storage and Memory size

Supports up to 4GB SD card when right card used

Today screen can be designed for any layout desireable based upon the third party apps and developer hacks out there.

Can view anything over the internet with the proper set up. (Sling box, Orb, TCPMP)

CONS
Bluetooth connection can be unstable with the more sophisticated stereo headsets. Its v 1.2 so keep it simple here.

Headphone input needs adapter for better stereo headphones so might not be for the audiophile.

The OK button and window X on native WM 5.0 apps don't close the app, minimizes app instead, so one can really put a drain on the resources if not aware. (thus Magic Button advice above)

Soft reset button is under battery cover so if really protected cased or skinned device needs reset, it has to come out of covering. (thus the TC Reset advice above)

No Wi-Fi, but not really necessary due to EVDO strong signal strength. There are cards available that will work just fine if you know what you are doing.

The storage card holder can only hold one card at a time so if you need Wi-Fi and a storage card together this is not the device for you.

TRY IT YOU'LL LIKE IT!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Colbymh submitted this review of the Palm Treo 700w / 700wx:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

If you want a PDA, dont get this phone. If you want a good phone, Dont get this phone. The reality is, is that it doesnt have enough memory. You have to reset it multiple times a day for it to function efficiently (if it doesnt freeze up). If you just wanted a little of both and didnt want the data package, this phone isnt that great either. You must have a "pay as you go" data plan in order to receive or send pix messages. Then you end up getting charged for using data when you really didnt.

The software you can purchase for the phone isnt good either. Ive added a phone contacts list and a different ringing program and neither work good. 75% of the time I cant even tell who is calling because the software is messed up.

If you have a few programs running, then dont expect the phone to work well. It will lag.

The compability for adding email accounts on the phone isnt great either. It works, just not that often. It randomly chooses to push your emails you get through to your phone.

The programs (word, Excel,PPT, etc) are good, but take awhile to load due to once again the low memory.

Windows Media player works pretty well, but videos dont play well unless you have NOTHING else running. Most of the time you have to clear everything, then reset to play a video.

Camera is actually pretty good. Zoom is not good, but the quality of the pics are good if you have natural light. No flash tho, so if dusk, dont bother. viewing pics is painful at times because its slow and choppy. WHY? Poor memory again. Starting to see a pattern???

The touch screen is nice, but you have to disable most of the functions otherwise you have 10 windows opened up each time you make a call due to your face hitting buttons.

If you have questions, feel free to message me and ask. The bottom line is, this phone needs alot of attention to make it a good phone, starting with about 3 times the amount of memory.

Pro's= not enough to list
Con's= to many to list

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

You MIGHT get one of the ones that works all the time.

I was charged with getting PDA's for my workgroup. I tried the Blackberry 7 and 8000 series, AT&T's 8525, TREO 700P, and the Motorola Q. I decided on the 700WX after banging on those and I've had no problems with mine whatsoever. HOWEVER: I've had 3 of 11 phones replaced for basic issues like the caller not hearing the callee (Nope, it wasn't the mute button). If another call came in during a call and was ignored, dropping the original call as the other one went to voicemail. It's NOT user error and yes, we've all grown up and have learned how to use the phone. It seems to be a software issue with SOME phones (Yup, I've had them hold OK and Stop All Programs). Verizon's released version 1.22 as an upgrade, then put the word out to NOT upgrade the software due to some "issues."

Too bad, the phone has some great points that others have already pointed out.

Time to find another phone for my group though......drats.

Ed

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I am a Nurse Practitioner and it allows me to stay in touch with my hospital and family all at once. Plus I can easily access technical programs and e mails. I am writing this so that the informed consumer will no that there is nothing you can do to get around the two step process to get to the on screen dial pad.

I don't want to hear about all of my options for dialing. i just want to access my dial pad when I hit the little green button!

pros:
1. tough phone. i have dropped it and it keeps on ticking
2. quick access to a world of information at my finger tips.
3. long battery life
4. VERIZON support is great, both in store and phone.

cons:
1. so many features you need a tutor to learn how to use it.
2. many error messages during sync. (enter error codes at microsoft.com) they usually have the answer
3. NOWAY AROUND MULTISTEP ACTION TO REACH THE TOUCHSCREEN DIAL PAD, BUT THE CONTACTS SEARCH IS STRONG.
4. text is very small, even after adjusting font size.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Glupii submitted this review of the Palm Treo 700w / 700wx:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

We were initially impressed with the wide variety of things we could do with the Pocket PC portion of this phone. Connecting our phones to our Exchange server was easy and using them to keep track of email while out of the office was great.

However after a year and half I can say the luster has worn off. Several phones had to go back for faulty keyboards. they lock up constantly making any calls incoming or outgoing impossible. At times the only way to get around the locked up state is to reboot the phone. At first I looked into the possibility that distance form a tower or interference was causing it. But when they work, we have a solid three bars indicating that we have a tower somewhere nearby. And we update the programming regularly.

I simply do not believe these phones are ready for prime time. As a Pocket PC when it locks up, there is no real hardship. But as a phone, if it locks up, until the user realizes it, he is out of touch and customers and co-workers can not reach him. When our contract expires, we will either be switching to a different, more stable platform, either with our current provider or with someone else.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

PhoneCop submitted this review of the Palm Treo 700w / 700wx:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I am a firm believer & fan in the Treo design and egronomics as I have owned every model since the 180.

The Treo was built for Palm OS but the transition to Win Mobile 5 was welcome and refreshing change.

A few points to remember about Treos
- They ARE NOT a phone as a primary function. They are PDAs that have the added benifit of making a call.

- You did not master your PC in a day, do not think that you will master a Treo in a day.

- If you are buyng one for the 1st time DO NOT assume that the Windows OS will be "EASIER" to use than Palm OS simply beacuse your home PC has a version of windows. Palm is geared for portable hand held devices and the windows OS is only good if you A. Have a need for it B. Have better than a firm grasp on the concept of win mobile.

-A $650 device will not make you smarter, more organized, or make you more successful at work or life in general. no more than your computer will make you an internet tycoon You will only get out of it whar you put into it. Its like expecting a $2000 vacuum to keep you house clean with no effort on your part. It's a tool not a magic wand

With That out of the way..

PROS
-SOLID Design
-Phenominal SPEED (Sprint CDMA EVDO Network) Evolution Data Optimized for you trivia buffs
-Logical Lay out on the "Today Screen"
- No Cut Corners
- OMG outta this world battery life
- No "Phone Envy" here when looking at other phones.
- Option for "PUSH eMail" (buh bye blackberry)

CONS
- Price - You get what you pay for
- Additional Software is very expensive
- initial set up of email (other than web mail) can be tricky but once youre up , youre good.

In closing, the Treo 700wx is the result of nearly a decade of refinement by the world's leader in handheld business & personal eletronics (Palm) You can either say how close your device measures up to a Treo or you can just bite the bullet and treat yourself to one.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The battery life is really good. I don't have to charge it as much as I thought that I would have too. Its taken a little getting used to to work my way around the phone, but I am working on that. The features of the phone are really good. Good sound, great phone, not too heavy, all in all I must say that I am happy with this phone. I recommend this phone to anyone who is questioning getting this phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
