ShadowScorpion submitted this review of the Motorola i560:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I own a i530 and while it's a kickass phone, it lacks that color screen I had gotten used to. Lo and behold, I get a i560.

The i560 is a very nice upgrade of the i530. The i560 is quite noticeably thinner than the i530. I carry the i560 in my pockets and it's not as bad as the i530, which feels almost like carrying a rock.

The color screen is a good ol' STN which is jaw-droppingly easy to read even in direct sun! It's amazing. The outer LCD has a white backlight and it's easy to read as well.

Reception-wise, the i560's RF is a little better than the i530's, but both phones have excellent RF.

Sound quality is top-notch, crystal clear. The gargantuesque speaker is loud as hell, and it fixes the i530's stupid design mistake of the unprotected speaker, as the i560 has a metal grid on the back faceplate, so it's protected.

Hmm, what else to say...? Oh yeah, battery. That's the only slightly negative thing I could say about the i560. The battery lasts a laughable 3 days, and with moderate use, make that two, and with heavy use, bring your charger. I'm not sure if aftermarket batteries do better than the pathetic iDEN phone batteries, it's worth a shot.

So in short, the i560 retains all of the best traits of the i530, while improving on the flaws of the i530. Two thumbs up for the i560.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

freezerburnz submitted this review of the Motorola i560:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

Well i had this phone for about 3 months after 2 of my i710 phones broke. The 2nd week i had this phone i got a crack on the front of of the phone. A couple weeks later i came to find out that the hinges for the top part were loose but
i didn't think about how a month later the whole top part of the phone would fall off. Funny thing is, is that i can still make phone calls i just have to put speaker phone on to hear the other person.

So as for my rating i give it a 2.5 for
PROS --- being indestructible (for the most part)
CONS --- Bad reception (nextel/SW Florida), and although it wont give up on phone calls it falls apart

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

mmormino submitted this review of the Motorola i560:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

I bought one of these on Ebay after my 850 decided to randomly turn off (and not in the "battery and sim card are bouncing loose" way) all the time. It was cheap, so I can't really complain.

Pros:
Excellent call quality (Nextel's only redeeming trait if the call isn't echoing due to the network)
Very loud speaker
Very loud ringer
I've dropped it a bunch, it still sort of works, the frame looks good though- no visible marks

Cons:
Flaky UI (really, Moto, if you can't make decent firmware in any of your phones, you should just give up)
would randomly turn off the same way my 850 would
Nextel's legendary text messaging

All in all, it worked fairly well as a phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

pnonma submitted this review of the Motorola i560:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I've been a nextel subscriber for a few months, and I'm impressed. My phone, although it feels a bit outdated, has never let me down.

It's durability is nice, I've taken it in the rain and dropped it with no damage.

Nextel phones are kind of quirky. The menu key isn't where it usually is, and menus force you to hit "more" instead of just cycling through it. In addition, the spacebar is actually the right key on the D-pad, which confused me the first time I tried IM'ing. There's also no alarm clock. Being able to make calls without the flip open was cool though.

Nextel disables over-the-air downloads of content, but with a data cable, that's not a problem anymore. 4mb of space for ringers and wallpapers, 4mb for java. No mp3s, but it'll do low bitrate wav's fine (they sound the same as ringtone mp3s).

Network in Springfield MO is great, and I was the only person I know not to lose signal in that killer ice storm a few weeks back. That's what sealed the deal for me.

Pros:
Excellent call quality - everything's crystal clear, albeit a bit buzzy with full-on speakerphone.
Incredible volume - You'll never forget your phone is ringing, no matter where it is...but it's kinda distorted at full blast.
All black, reminds me of Batman.
Signal Penetration - Dead center of a cinder-block building, in the basement, with fluorescent lights, 2 bars. 'Nuff said.

Cons:
Not very stylish - kind of a brick.
Signal interferes with all computer monitors and speakers within 5 feet (like GSM on steroids) - I know I'm getting a call several seconds before it rings.
Awkward menus - not bad once you're used to them
Battery life - 1 1/2 days of normal use...bring a car charger.

Summary:
Despite its quirks, I'm very happy with it, and it's a solid bet for anyone who needs a good, clear phone who isn't too concerned with advanced features. It has a nice air of odd geekyness to it, kind of like that crazy co-worker who's obsessed with linux.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

PKgtV8 submitted this review of the Motorola i560:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I have a major issue with the Motorola i560. Even with a full battery it will shutdown by itself. I have read on-line that this is a common defect and can be repaired by the Nextel repair shop. The rubber that covers the charger opening is ahhh not good to put it mildly. I detached it from my phone. It took a beating from me when I did this surgery so I feel the phone to be rather sturdy. It has an extendable antenna on it. It doesn't appear to help with reception, just make it look like a phone from the early 90's. The ring tones are bad. The reception is poor , not working where my cingular phone does. I assume it to be a Nextel issue. I like the fact its made by Motorola. It has a great speaker phone. The buttons can be reprogrammed to useful functions. It can show HUGE numbers while you input a phone number. Its difficult to drop it as it has lots of rubber ridges on it. I think it would be a good family phone as the kids could not hurt it much and the family could stay in touch with each other using the walkie talkie feature. This is a company phone. I would not buy this phone for my personal use. I use this phone in Southeastern Mass. with Nextel service.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

ahjoyc2 submitted this review of the Motorola i560:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I've had my i560 for 3 months now and I love it. I get great signal, except for one place(my Music class in a huge concrete building which I guess I shouldn't be on the phone there anyways).

This phone has been very durable so far, as I am a clutz, I've dropped the phone about 5 times so far and there's hardly a scratch on it.

I do wish there was more rubber coating, but I suppose Motorola knows what they're doing.

The phone doesn't come with a calculator, but you can download one quite easily.

Oddly, the phone does tend to power itself off and then back on. This usually happens when I take the phone out in the rain.

The battery life is also not so great. I am on the phone about 3 hours a day and I can barely make it to the end of the day. This might be because I didn't run the battery down before charging it when I first got it, but I am thinking about upgrading to the high capacity battery.

At the price it is offered for, this is the best phone you can get for your money. The i 580 is WAY overpriced.

Just a reminder to all those shopping for Nextel phones, be careful that you base your judgment on the price before the rebate, as Nextel takes 10-12 weeks to send your mail-in rebate back. So any phone you get you can expect to pay for shipping PLUS the $50 for the rebate you may or may not get back in 3 months.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

mrjoevinson submitted this review of the Motorola i560:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

Hi. I'm writing about this phone to warn you that if you have a job that requires alot of walking around tight spaces where a phone may be knocked off of your clip, get something else. I had an i530, and dropped it from over 20 feet easily, on several occasions, and it kept on going.(I'm using it now while my 560's in the shop). I dropped my i560 from my belt clip once, and the external speaker quit working, and the down volume, scroll down exterior button quit working. I dropped it again, and the speaker started working again, but, as fate might have it, I dropped it once again and no more speaker. Motorola does say that they stand behind their products for a year, I guess if they don't you'll probably see another letter of praise from me. The only reason I upgraded was for the features like voice dial, etc. as I am constantly doing tasks that don't allow me to hold the phone while talking. If I could only find a decent bluetooth adapter !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Joe

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

This weekend I've discovered that I need to get this one repaired or buy a new one.

The phone has had various defects from a keypad to a speaker going bad to now a headset jack not working.

This has been a very frustrating headset. I keep this in a secure case and still have had problems on 4 different sets.

I am trying to get out of this phone. I hate to say it but have lost confidence in this phone due to the number of times I have had to go back to a repair center. Other than that, this is a nice looking phone.

At this point, I am only hoping that Nextel will get me into something else reasonable.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

My i850 while not marketed for durability has a metal cover (though a little thin.)

The rest of the case is thick metal *BUT* it is exactly the same construction as the i850 except with rubber accents
(The i850's hinge looks a little less sturdy)

All in all a good phone but rubber accents, a small STN screen, plastic battery cover- virtually identical construction wise to the i850- makes for an over-priced, over-hyped phone. If you want durability-or at least all rubber armoring, for better shock, vibration resistance then go with the i580. You can get it as low as $149 with a plan on the web.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Jed submitted this review of the Motorola i560:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

I own a construction company and just last week decided to make the switch to Nextel and the sales person recommended this phone. She said it was extremely rugged. I disagree! This phone is not going to last in my field as she assured me. I received two of these phones, one of which works okay, the other hasn't worked well at all. It jumps back and forth from no svc to a full signal. I highly doubt that I will keep the phones.....service and phones are too expensive for what I got! Battery life is marginal. Reception is also marginal. Phone seems to work well on direct connect and speaker phone, but mic must just be terrible for regular voice calls!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

bschwalbe submitted this review of the Motorola i560:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

My company recently changed from Verizon because we were disappointed with the offerings in phones. We want phones, not phones with cameras or MP3 players or video recorders. Nextel seems to be focused on businesses so we figured we'd give them a try. We were given the i560 for our managers and we love them. We've had them for a few months now and they seem to be very reliable at least in comparison to the flimsy Verizon phones.

PROS: Rubberized exterior, color screen, display on outside, both interior and exterior speakers have good sound, firm build quality.

CONS: In Illinois Nextel did not offer the yellow color (though a Nextel yellow/black battery cover can be ordered off eBay), poorly designed charger port cover.

Bottom line: A good rugged phone for those who want a phone for business, not play.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

6eburg submitted this review of the Motorola i560:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

This is by far the best rugged unit (until the i580 releases). The new os software used improves reception and offers great features like Direct-Talk and Group-Talk. For the people who need a rugged phone (work or clumsiness) this is worth switching carriers. The unit is easy to use, very customizable (from ring tones to the size of text on the screen) and VERY DURABLE.

PROS:
1) Improvement to i530's lack of external caller ID, better reception, lighter and smaller.
2) Direct Talk / Group Connect
3) Bright easy-to-use color internal screen
4) All the options of your typical GSM unit
5) Loud standard ring tones
6) Both speakers are of industry leading quality

CONS:
1) No Camera (but thats not why you should be looking into a rugged phone to begin with - if needed see i580)
2) Max battery life is 2 days with normal use (if an issue purchase the extended battery and battery door (black only) model# NNTN4655)
3) Slow data transfer (but faster than i530) - data isn't Nextel's strong point

Overall: A-

This phone is worth every penny.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
