JMGeri submitted this review of the Nokia 6255i / 6256i:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I bought my Nokia 6255i in 2004. This was a MetroPcs phone. This phone lasted me 5 years. I dropped it so many times. It slipped out of my hand several times while riding my bike but still worked. The radio was great while riding my bike, I'd put it on speaker phone. The call logs were great with 5 per call or phone number. This phone got service in places where other phones did not. I put a purple chrome cover on it when I got it. When the phone quit working that same cover was no longer purple, most of it had worn off and the cover was unpainted white. After more than 5 years it quit working after getting to damp or wet while working on a car. Or perhaps it died of old age. I really miss this phone and I'm getting another 6255i, used or new soon.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Nupe 75 submitted this review of the Nokia 6255i / 6256i:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

What can you say...this is an excellent cell phone. I have had this phone for the past 3 1/2 years and it is still going strong. I purchased it through Alltel and last month while getting another phone upgraded for my daughter, I asked the tech guy his opinion on this phone (mine) just to hear what he said. He said in so many words, "It's a great phone and if I were you, I'd never get rid of it. It's doesn't make any sense to turn it in for a cheaper quality phone for an 'upgrade.' What he said, verified my own personal assessment of this cell phone.

PROS:
1. Signal: It gets signal and is able to make and receive calls in areas where most cell phones don't.
2. Durability: Very tough phone. It has taken a beating...sometimes falling out of its cell casing onto the ground. It has a few minor scratches, but works fine. One point...although it's very durable, use the common sense approach and get a cell phone cover for it to aid its longevity.
3. Uniformity of AC/DC power chargers. This is my 2nd Nokia and all power accessories are the same for all Nokia phones which is a money saver if you stay loyal to the Nokia brand and buy a replacement cell phone brand.
CONS:
1. The model is no longer on sale.
2. The keypad should have its keys lit, so the keypad can be used more easily when it's dark. If you're in a vehicle, you have to turn on a small lamp or the dome light to see the keys when dialing.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Giorgio Vespacci submitted this review of the Nokia 6255i / 6256i:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I purchased the Nokia 6256i in February 2005 to replace my reliable but beaten up LG Vx6000. From the day I got the Nokia to today, I have had incredible problems with the software and hardware. I bought the phone for its features and have been deeply disappointed that Nokia has equated features with poor reliability. I can only be thankful that the 2 years is up and I can get a new phone without paying exorbitant list prices.

CONS:
1.) Wiped out photos set as background on both screens
2.) Powers off for no apparent reason and often requires multiple power cycles to get the software to work properly.
3.) Fills up my memory regularly since the side button, when depressed in my pocket, records ambient noise.
4.) Makes text messaging any numbers a chore as there is no numbers menu to choose from.
5.) Has two choices for text messages, either fill up your sent items after 50 messages and be forced to delete them or not save any but last one sent.
6.) Has a speaker phone that sounds muffled
7.) Navigation of menus is tedious in either list or icon form
8.) Has a poor selection of ringtones that would be more appropriate for a child's phone than an adult's phone.
9.) Signal strength bars display arbitrary values - too many calls have dropped while using a full charged phone with 4 bars

PROS:
1.) It has lasted 2 years, so I can rid myself of this nightmare and replace it with an LG, which I owned previously.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

FritzzyG submitted this review of the Nokia 6255i / 6256i:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I'm shocked by the negative reviews on this phone! I' have not 1, not 2, but 3 of these phones in my family. We got two at the same time just about the time they were discontinued in early 2006 (or was it late 2005). We still have one of those originals, the other was graciously replaced by Nokia when it suffered a bizarre software corruption. (I do not expect all technology to run flawlessly at all times for eternity - btw). We liked the first 2 phones so well, that we bought a third for a daughter at Ebay. That phone arrived and also worked beautifully.

Weak hinge? I don't think so. We've broken other phones with little effort. These things have been sat upon, drop kicked, knocked to the floor by over enthusiastic reaches, horse play and dashing cats. They have been subjected to most of the abuse you would expect a phone to see, not intentionally, but just because they have been in constant use for 2 years! They neither have a scuff, crack, dent or bruise upon them. They are not kept shielded in leather cases either. I used to cringe when my daughter stuck hers in the tight back pocket of her jeans. But, no more. It has withstood the test of time and teenagers. Someone said that the color wore off? Huh? How in the **** did you get it to do that?

Anyway, it also has all the functionality we need in a phone - INCLUDING - individual ringtones for individual contacts. You can set individual rings quite easily, but I see other users didn't figure it out and thought only groups could have unique rings. Not so. Yeah, I read 8 pages of reviews before deciding to sign up and write my own. I can't believe the misinfo here for a great phone. We keep watching eBay hoping to pick up a couple of spares in case anything does happen to our now out of warranty phones, because we just don't want to switch to any other phone.

CONS? Doesn't exit menu items when flip closed. So, can't use voice dial closed until cleared.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

kelseylou submitted this review of the Nokia 6255i / 6256i:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

Granted, this wasn't the best phone of it's time. When we got this, we got three of them (with Alltel).

They worked great for us. Reception was okay in the bigger parts of our city, but we still didn't get some signal in certain areas. That was to be expected though because of where we lived at the time, so I don't completely blame the phone, either.

Surprisingly enough the battery life was great. I didn't do a lot with the phone so I didn't ever really need to charge for about a week. Sometimes I charged it just to be safe - went to school way out in the middle of no where, so we needed a phone on the "just in case", worst case scenario.

I don't know if it was nationwide, but in our area the phones got recalled shortly after we got them (and alltel conveniently forgot to tell us), and they didn't sell them again after that. Something was wrong in the wiring or something, I don't recall.

It had bluetooth and excellent call quality, though a little bit of an echo, up until December of 07 (when my mother stepped up and decided to finally get a better phone). It worked pretty good until then. The ringer was loud, too.

I don't like the way Nokias are set up, with the ringer profiles and everything, and this one wouldn't let you set a different ringtone to different people. Unless I missed it after two years of trying to find it. I never found a way, so.

Of course, now it's a paper weight, but still usable as a backup at least. It could've been a lot worse! It went through a lot and was still holding up, so I can't really complain. I did get a green cover to go on mine, so now it just looks like a giant jolly rancher. Go figure!

All in all, 3 out of 5 because it's not the worse there is, but needed a lot of room for improvement. Since Nokias aren't made for Alltel anymore, I guess there won't be a chance to find out.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

nokiahaha submitted this review of the Nokia 6255i / 6256i:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I went online hoping to see if other people might've had the same problem I was having..and here you are!

I bought my Nokia only several months before the first time I had to retun it because of the cracked hinge. Within a year, the phone started going through the menu and turning itself off and on over and over again. Alltel acted like they had never heard of the problem, and told me that I was a few months past my warrant time.

I love the features on this phone! I couldn't believe they couldn't do anything about it turning off and on.

Well..I had to resort back to my very first, original Nokia phone until my contract comes up and I can purchase another one at a reasonable price. My old phone has no bells and whistles. No flip phone, no camera, just the standard free phone. It might have a crack in the front...but, it works and it has better reception than my non-working, metal flaking around the front, hinge cracking, screen with a line in it, $ $ 183 dollar phone!

Pros:
Cool features
Flash in the camera

Cons:
Poorly manufactured.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

DatsDatDeuce submitted this review of the Nokia 6255i / 6256i:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I should have located phonescoop.com a long time ago and maybe I would have read someone's user review and refrained from buying this phone. But I digress, initially, my first thought was, "This phone isn't quite as cute and as sleek as I like and it is a bit heavy..." At the time, however, it was one of the more reasonably priced Bluetooth enabled phones with my carrier, Ntelos. I bought it.

At present, I am in the process of waiting for a contract rollover to get rid of this tremendous waste of 200+ bucks! In fact, many times my patience almost failed me and I almost risked having to purchase another phone for retail just to get rid of it.

Although I was merely opening the phone for the purpose of dialing a number or looking up a contact (since I have my Bluetooth headset), it still managed to squeak as if it needed WD-40! How unattractive and embarrassing is that when your phone squeaks! Out of the blue, after a few months, my phone screen would begin going black every time I would close it.... I would literally dial a number, close the phone, and before my headset could pick up anything, I would look down and see that my screen was black and the phone was off. After paying attention to detail, I noticed there was a small crack on the left side of the hinge, just above the buttons. With further examination, I realized just under this crack was the "circuit board" or (that little green card that holds all electronic information). So I used my "ingenuity" and devised a plan to close my phone with utmost care (taking about an added 20seconds just to close the phone without worrying that it would cut off)!

I had NEVER purchased a Nokia phone and heard many people boasting about the durability of their phones. Well, this will be my first and last experience! I'll go back to Motorola til' something else good comes out!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Wait, let me guess you already did and are having problems with it? Right? That's how you found this website? Right? Me too. Learned the hard way. Had a Motorola Razr....good phone, but burned it out...used a non-oem phone charger and it burned it up. Now, this phone,....has a great battery/charge-time,etc.

After 1 year, phone looks like crap...cheap paint wears off. Antenna breaks easily, had to take back to repair shop for broken hinges every 3-4 months.

Now, it randomly shuts off during conversation. Bought a new battery, still randomly shuts off. Nokia shame on you.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I had it for almost 2 years. Took good care of it (leather case, hardly ever dropped it, didnt flip it open or close it hard) Was well worth the $200-ish I paid for it. Is wonderful for a gadget lover.

However, I was not able to continue use with this phone because I cancelled my plan with MetroPCS & would have to pay a $75 activation fee to use it again.

Pros:
-Can record then set as ringtone.
-Can play MP3s.
-Excellent camera & flash.
-Great sound quality.
-Video recorder has great picture quality.
-Alarm will still work if phone is on Silent Mode.
-Vibrate is powerful (with other phones, I couldnt even tell it was ringing-not a problem with this phone)
-Music will still play when phone is closed.

Cons:
-Hinge cracked.
-After hinge cracked, phone sometimes shut off without notice.
-If you record something loud, it will play back VERY loud, sometimes making the speakers sound buzzy.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

bcbloyd submitted this review of the Nokia 6255i / 6256i:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I've used mobile phones since the mid-90s, and in all that time, the Nokia 6255i has been THE LEMON of the bunch. I don't dislike Nokia phones in general; the one I had before the 6255i was also a Nokia, and I liked it, which is why I chose to stick with Nokia when I upgraded to obtain a Bluetooth-compatible phone. In fact, my husband still uses my old Nokia flip-phone without trouble.

However, I've recently trashcanned my Nokia 6255i after my 4th trip to the repair shop inside of 18 months. Every time was for a broken hinge. (Keep in mind that I got the phone because I wanted Bluetooth capability, so I used my wireless headset to make/answer calls a majority of the time, but that didn't matter. I'd also bought a leather cover for the phone to "protect it", but often found it was the only thing keeping the flip-phones two pieces together!) The thin plastic hinge would crack with regular use of opening and closing it. The first 3 times I had to get it repaired, it was under warranty, so I was out only the cost of gas to drop off and pick up the phone. The fourth time, I'd just missed the window, and was told I'd have to pay $20 for repair costs or file a claim on my "phone insurance" (that costs me $5/month), but then that would also require I pay the deductible (which is $50) *SIGH*

Incidentally, a woman in line with me was there for the second time...for the same problem with the same phone! The repair guy told me "you have to be very gentle with the heavier flip-phones". Of course, my response was to tell him Nokia should've made a stronger hinge.

I found it was easier to just toss this lemon and get a new flip-phone; I did not go with Nokia this time around.

I give it a 0.5 rating only because it was Bluetooth compatible and played MP3s.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

iseestars submitted this review of the Nokia 6255i / 6256i:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I bought this phone for over $100 from Alltel in July of 2006. I was more than excited to get my first phone with a camera and one that was bluetooth compatible. What a waste. My first phone had a huge crack in the hinge. Alltel gladly replaced the phone. I was given a free battery, which for some reason never worked. My 2nd phone fell out of my pocket and after that would shut off when I was in the middle of a conversation. Right now I have a loner and am much more satisfied with it than I ever was with this phone. I have spoken with others about this phone and they ALL had the same problems that I did. Way to go Nokia!

**Pros**
Decent camera
Loud ear piece
Bluetooth compatible
Large buttons

**Cons**
Hinge breakage
Heavy and very bulky
Breaks easily

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

mpwelk submitted this review of the Nokia 6255i / 6256i:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Great Nokia choice from US Cellular in Madison. Unfortunately, US Cellular no longer offers Nokia products as of last week. I couldn't get them to disclose whether or not Nokia Products would return.

Pros:
- Battery Life
- Reception (extending antenna)
- Learning Text
- Video Camera (clip length limited to memory capacity)
- LED "flash" also works as a flashlight
- Simple, customizable "Go To" menu lets you put the most-used functions in it for instant access (Alarm, games, calendar, etc)
- Bluetooth for PC access
- Standard Nokia charger - they're everywhere. Keep one at work, at home. This will enable you to charge only when battery is low, extending batter life.
- Old-fashioned headsets with TRRS jacks AND Nokia multipin connectors work great. You can even use one TRSS headset (on the side) at the same time as the multipin jack (on the bottom) so two people can talk on the phone with the caller. Very cool...
- Built like a tank compared to the rest
- Pinball game is addictive

Cons:
- Bluetooth sucks battery dry if you leave it on after PC access operations. I've never used it for those ridiculous headsets, so that must be even more of a drain.
- Voice recorder button on side inadvertently starts rolling tape while it's in your pocket!
- PC software invades your computer - watch as it assigns all your mp3, wav, and other media files to Nokia. Quite a fight to watch between iTunes and Nokia. The software gets an "F".
- Videos won't play back on my computer - perhaps this is an issue with my video card.
- No Mac software support.
- Speaker phone sounds horrible.
- No AM radio (has FM).
- Radio won't play through speaker or the regular receiver if you just want to hear a quick sports score.
- The games besides pinball are boring.

Hope you found this review helpful - you won't be using it to get a NEW phone, but if you're in the market for a used one, I'd recommend it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

But we took it off our shelf. Cheaper than the RAZR, but had just about all the same things the RAZR did and then some. Not to mention the difference in price. And the Nokia phones I've had were always at least half a step further than the Motorola phones I've owned.

Pros:
-very clear picture and video camera(set to a 4 minute video record)
-am/fm built in radio
-mp3 downloadable with SD card slot
-excellent menu
-big external screen

Cons:
-just a little bulky
-funky looking antenna

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I use MetroPCS and it was their first bluetooth offering. I used it for 2 years, but I hated it. The clamshell hinges cracked easily. I am a heavy user because of my business. I went through 3 of these phones in a 2 year period. I just switched to the SLVR. I was glad to see MetroPCS discontinued it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I really like this phone a lot. I have NEVER been anywhere that I didnt get great service. The only thing I dont like is that you cant assign each contact their own ringtone. That and the cheap looking plastic housing the reason I give this phone a 4 out of 5.

Pros.....EXCELLENT coverage, even in deep rural areas. Easy menu. Camera takes great pics. Bright clear screens. Charges fast and holds a charge a long time.

Cons....cant assign each contact thier own ringtone. Cheap looking plastic housing.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

nlhatkanet submitted this review of the Nokia 6255i / 6256i:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I don't like switching phones very often. This was my 4th phone in 11 years with Verizon. Previous phone: Motoroloa V60, the most durable phone I've ever had. It was 4 years old but beginning to go dead during calls, and since I could get the 6256 free through Circuit City, I upgraded after much research. In some Circuit Citys this phone is kept in the back, so you must ask for it. It was one of the few Verizon had left that has analog roaming, which I must have in rural areas. Reception is good, but dropouts are more prevalent than on my V60. Volume is poor, even with it turned all the way up, you must make sure the earpiece is centered dead-on to hear clearly. The speaker phone is very good.Voice dialing is simple. Verizon has disabled some features and since I have no time for phone hacking, this is a big disappointment. There are limited Get It Now programs, including mapping, news and VZ Navigator. I sat on the fence a long time before upgrading, because the VZN capable phones Verizon offers are cheaply made with few features compared to this one. I need a mapping or navigation utility, but this phone cannot receive any of them. Getting the pictures and videos out of it and shooting onto a memory card was tedious at first.Verizon charges to email the pictures, and there is no software utility that comes with the phone to transfer them. I bought a usb cable and program from MobileAction to sync with my laptop and results are good transferring files, to and from the phone. The music player is very basic, and no, I can't set my own mp3 ringtones, and I really don't care. Camera quality is very good, but videos are limited to 3 minutes at a time.I installed a 1gb MMC card, set it as default folder, with good results. Must use MMC as the phone can't "see" SD cards. Build quality is solid, but the earpiece is topheavy. Radio reception headset was hard to find, but once I found one on ebay, that feature is great.Size is about the same as my MotoV60,no complaints there.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

VerizonFanGirl submitted this review of the Nokia 6255i / 6256i:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

This is the very first Nokia I've ever owned and I love it. It makes me want to take back what have I said about Nokia's in the past. I've had Motorala's, and Samsung's but this phone... it's out of league. The only Con I have is that is a little bulky (everyone have said that and I couldn't believe it until I had one. Hardly fits in any case, But the features and the Menu are so simple to use, the camera quality is better, Very Clear Pictures, the Speaker phone is loud and clear everyone can hear me so well and so can I. I'm with Verizon Wireless in Puerto Rico and the signal here is awesome, No Dropped calls so far, (I've owned this phone for a month now) It also has Bluetooth but I hardly use it. Anyway, I recommend this phone to anyone, Oh I almost forgot, the hinge of this phone doesn't squeak like old doors at least mine is very strong and it opens and closes very softly with no sounds. 6256i you're the best!! and so is Verizon!!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

countryboy00001 submitted this review of the Nokia 6255i / 6256i:

Overall rating: 0 (out of 5)

I have had a total of two different phones since April 2006 and the phones have spent more time getting repaired then they have in my possession. It seems like the phones are having the same problem

Cons
1.	Phone is always dropping calls while in use or you don’t get them because they went straight to your voice mail. Signal wise is full bars
2.	When someone calls you and you have them stored in you address book, the phone will do a double ring. If you catch it quick enough you will see who it is on the first half wring, but if not then all you see is a phone number that is being displayed on the second wring.
3.	The phone will shut down by its self when someone calls you even if the battery is fully charged. Sometimes I have even had the phone on the phone charger and it still shuts down. When attempting to turn the phone back on sometimes you can just press the on/off button. Other times I have to take the battery off of the unit then put it back on and then power it up.

Pros
1.	If you can get the phone to work correctly then it is a decent phone. This is about all I can say about the phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
