ceomrman submitted this review of the LG VX-8700:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

Pro's: looks great, snaps open nicely, takes pictures pretty well, responds well to inputs, buttons click nicely, generally very well made.

Con's: the big one for me is the puny 50 text inbox and outbox - who in the world decided that made sense? You can plug a 8gb SD card in it and still, it can only hold 2kb worth of texts. It also lacks a real headphone jack.

Overall, I love this phone. I've owned it for years and I even dropped it in the sink once - the little white dot on the battery turned red, but I let it dry out and voila - no problem. I'm going to try to stay with LG phones.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

MY FRIENDS ALL GOT IT (WELL A LOT OF THEM and love it, and it has a 2.0 camera. Most of those people have different phones now, but the phone was really cool. The only reason it has a 4.5 is my friends camera stopped working and he had to get a replacement. bUT YEa awesome

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

bkw212007 submitted this review of the LG VX-8700:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

(The following are my personal opinions, and not necessarily facts...)

PROS:

Sleek, lightweight, sharp looking phone
Durable metal casing, instead of plastic
Decent-sized buttons
Nice inside screen

CONS:

Horrible battery life
Dropped calls, some calls don't ring through
Undelivered text messages
No flash for camera
Slippery, easily dropped
MicroSD card is under the battery
Impossible to read outside screen in sunlight
Speaker isn't nearly loud enough

SUMMARY:

Buy this phone if you want to impress people with its looks. Don't buy this phone if you just want a good working phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

MJSNY submitted this review of the LG VX-8700:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Just a great durable phone. Pictures and video are good if you're outdoors, indoors somewhat blurry. Not a good camera for low light conditions by any means. Great call quality and pretty good speaker phone, minus the fact that you can only activate it during the call. All in all a great phone.

Pros:
Call Quality
Speaker
Display Screen

Cons:
Could have done a better job with the camera
since this is a high end phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I bought one for myself and loved it so much that I got 3 more for the rest of my family. The only problem I had in a year is one of the phones had a black spot when it took a picture. Overall this is one of the best from LG's lineup. However, I did think it should have MP3 player controls on front.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

antik submitted this review of the LG VX-8700:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

I bought this phone when it was very new. I spent $150 after mail-in rebate on it. I was sold on it under the impression that it had good battery life. Unfortunately, I was in for a heck of a surprise there!

The normal battery never lasted more than 2 days for me and most of the time, I was lucky if it made it that long. The phone never died inside of one day but going for 2 was pushing it. This drove me crazy. Unfortunately, the extended battery pack looks like junk and makes the phone quite large... while only providing reliable service into the 3rd day, but rarely all the way through it. This would've been acceptable if it didn't alter the phone's appearance, weight, and comfort in my pocket so severely.

Other than the battery, the phone was nice.

It was easy to look at though after a year of service, it was pretty dinged up (even gentle use: I rarely kept it in my pocket with anything else.)

I have an Alpine Bluetooth kit that is notorious for echoing on the far end of my conversations: this phone did exactly that (but my new LG VX5500 does not... go figure.)

The camera is certainly better than most but still not nice enough to eliminate the need for me to carry a digital camera around when I want good pictures.

The UI wasn't unpleasant but wasn't worth calling home about either.

The phone did get remarkably hot during long conversations.

Minijack dongle (for those with wired headsets) was plain silly.

In the end, losing this phone and upgrading to the VX5500 has been the most enjoyable part of my cell phone owning experience in the last 5 years. I never recommended this phone to anyone and now that I've seen how much better the more basic phones do their job, I will never do so.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I liked having it being the mega pixels it was incase I didn't have my actual digital camera, it came in handy and had mostly good quality.

the Cons.

The phone freezes...a lot

Randomly turns itself off & back on

The clock on the front lights itself up when I'm not even near the phone to touch it

The vibrate option doesn't work anymore. No texting, no calling its ALL silent unless I have my ringer on, which I can't at work its required to be on vibrate.

The back where the battery is gets extremely hot when I talk on it more than 5 minutes.

I was excited to get this phone originally because I had the LG 8600 and it was horrible...now I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Julius submitted this review of the LG VX-8700:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

Pros: I bought this phone because to me, it was Lucky-Goldstar's version of the RAZR. But this phone is lighter and faster in clarity and in reception. It has a 2.0 MP camera and if you have the memory chip, you can record up to OVER an hour's worth of video (comes in quite handy if you're bored at work and things are slow). The ringtones are off the hook-live instruments on some of them-the wallpapers are animated, and you don't get a whole lot of glare when you do a pic/video. All in all, this phone is a step up from my previous phone, the LG VX8100 (which was a TOP seller at the time), and I still have it to this day-this phone overshadowed the popularity of the Motorola V60 (yep, I had that one, too). I also appreciate the way you change the appearance of the display themes-business or metallic. But depending on your character to each his own. And one other thing, if you work, or reside by the waterfront, this phone-like the other LG phones-will NOT drop a call! You can have no bars on your signal, but the call will be crystal clear with no further problems!

CONS: One individual stated that he/she had went through SEVEN phones?!? Wow, I though it just me going through some bad karma or something! I went through THREE of 'em within six months! And I resolved at that point, no more LGs for me! I would say 'crash', but freezing sounds more accurate to describe why I went through so many in so short a time. But with LG's popularity, it's hard to resist them now! So I may give 'em one more go, I may not. Thankfully, my contract with this phone is halfway over. But despite some idiosyncrasies that this phone-as well as any other LG product-has had in the past, LG continues to rise no matter what. My only (complaint) was that it kept freezing! And one last thing, I don't know if someone else had mentioned this, but whoever your carrier is, MAKE SURE you have Assitant Backup so you won't lose your contact numbers! I learned that the hard way!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

rgganze submitted this review of the LG VX-8700:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

i honestly have very few complaints about the Verizon LG VX8700. i bought it a little less than a year ago. it wasn't very popular at the time, but i have seen its usage grow significantly among the teenage population.

i was between this and the enV when i was choosing phones, because i thought i wanted the keyboard, but i'm so glad i got this phone instead. texting on the LG VX8700 is faster than most non-keyboard phones.

PROS:

just about everythingggg

the 2.0 megapixel camera is great...better than i've seen on almost any other phone

while it seems like a fragile phone, i've dropped it accidentally on hard floors and it never broke or malfunctioned

the phone is VERY *aesthetically pleasing*, very slim and lightweight

features on the phone are pretty good, it looks great, and is very *user-friendly*

my signal strength is usually very strong. the only places it drops out are basements and certain buildings, but that's to be expected, right? anywhere else i never have any reception problems

CONS: insignificant annoyances

the fact that the speakerphone can only be activated in a call could be annoying

the phone buttons can be a bit slippery because of being flat, but this is a minor annoyance until you get used to it

when you take the protective coating off, scratches happen a bit easily, but if you can take care of your phone there's no problems

battery life is ok, not the best but surely not the worst

i had to get the charger replaced just a few days ago, probably because i jammed it in too hard one night and broke it =]

if you need a great phone for a good value, with comfortable features and aesthetically pleasing design, buy this phone!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

lone_gentleman submitted this review of the LG VX-8700:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

First off, I'm perfectly happy with the VX8700. Good quality of the phone, although it's a phone first and fun second... or even third.

Pros:
Great reception
Clear call quality
Easy to pick up and use with no previous training on cell phones.
Very good style

Cons:
Bluetooth Glitch

The bottom line of this phone is it's a great phone, not an MP3 player or GPS replacement, even though it can effectively do both of those functions. The bluetooth, however is a huge problem. While occasionally I am able to pair my headset (or one of the others I have in my possession), the phone consistently either disconnects or does not see the headset even after it confirmed pairing with the phone. Overall, if Bluetooth is not a huge requirement for you, great quality phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

tekmox submitted this review of the LG VX-8700:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

So I've had my phone for about a good year now and recently in California, it is required to have a hands free head set. I went to get a bluetooth headset and when I tried to connect it to my phone, it keeps cutting out on me or not connect to the bluetooth device at all. This is very frustrating and I've looked into it a bit more. So it turns out, this has a defect that the most of the LG 8700s' bluetooth does NOT work well. A lot of people have issues connecting their headsets or it cuts out on them in the middle of talking.

I got this phone because I saw that it got a pretty good review here on phonescoop but seemingly, people don't test out all the functions before they start commenting on it.

Another gripe I have with the phone is that after having it for about half a year, my battery keeps dying on me after 16 hours of just being on and no phone calls. I bought another battery thinking that the one that I had might of been defective but it did the same thing. So seemingly, another defect on this phone is that battery life shortens as you have the phone. This is at an alarming rate too, not like i have to charge my phone every 2 or 3 days; now I have to charge my phone every night.

The only good thing from the phone is that it gets fairly good reception.

This phone is ridiculous. Get another phone...

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Renei submitted this review of the LG VX-8700:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

So I live in Canada so i have purchased this phone on the Koodo mobile network. I have no problems with themes because here it only comes with one, the call clarity is fantastic, its true sometimes you think you've dropped the call because when no one is talking there is no sound at all. all these other problems about scratches and slipperiness and hot battery are not noticeable because the first day i purchased the phone i also purchased a clip on cover which is hardly noticeable and makes my phone a nice sexy red. it stops the metal from touching your skin so you do not notice a hot battery. and obviously you phone does not get scratched, the cover is also slightly rubbery feeling, which feels great and allows for no slip yet slides effortlessly into your pocket.

Cons- so i heard the the bluetooth doesn't work but it works fine for me.. however if you are using a single ear headset the music will not play in it kind of annoying since this is what i had with my last phone. the external music player is also not very loud. No games folder. The camera is amazing in sunlight alright with indoor light and crappy in the dark, there also is no flash. texting is tricky at first because the 'back' button is right above send so i found i sent a lot of incomplete messages.

Pros- the phone has a very fast music player does not take any time to load. You can download and watch movies and the screen is crystal clear. the phone is sleek and sexy with amazing clarity, buttons are easy to use. getting used to the 'back' button took one day

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

ckeeney submitted this review of the LG VX-8700:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

My 8600 broke in January within the warranty period and I went to have it replaced. Little to my surprise they told me they did not have it anymore and would have to replace it with this. The phone looked and felt good so it was a deal. The camera is higher megapixels than I had and at first I loved it. I have since had three. The first one lost signal totally and did not pick any up ever again. The second the speakers went out. I could hear no one talking and the ringers would not work. I am on my third one and it will pick up signal about half of the time. It does not work in places that other verizon phones (cheaper ones) do. I am switching phones this week. I do not recommend this phone if you are or go anywhere that there is not a continuous six or eight bars of service all the time.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

obxmh submitted this review of the LG VX-8700:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I have had this phone for 2 weeks now. I think that it is a very good phone and have no regrets buying it. My previous phone was a Motorola E815, so I had high expectations since that was a great phone.

Pros:

Great reception, great battery life, and super sexy stainless steel look. No regrets whatsoever.

Cons:

Phone is so thin, it was hard to open and hold on to. We purchased a rubber cover for it, now very easy to open and hold on to. Bought it over the internet at www.mywickedwireless.com. Very good price with free shipping.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Its also a good value because it is now $50 less then when I purchased it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It is expandable up to 4GB for more pictures, music, videos, ect.

CONS:
- Speaker phone could be much louder.
- Media player could be louder and an external speaker would be nicer.
- Scratches easily if not taken care of nicely.
- Finger prints show but not a big deal.
- Sometimes the phone restarts automatically
- Once in a while it will not let you look at your pictures. I think thats caused by the memory card somehow.
- Songs get deleted automatically off the memory card too sometimes which sucks. (May just be the memory card?)

This has been my review on the LG 8700 (Shine).

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

phone_freak2012 submitted this review of the LG VX-8700:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I have owned many phones the blackberry pearl, the vx8600 and a couple others but this has been the best so far. The vx8700 by lg has great service everywhere and good call quality. It is much quieter than the 8600 but still loud.
Pros: Call Quality
Sleek design (looks great with blue cover)
Photo Edit
Great for texting except the clear key moved up to the top.
Very durable i have dropped it and yeah its still works like new.
It has emergency numbers built in and you can add i.c.e. numbers and they turn red.
People don't really think that you can close the phone and take pics but you can see yourself in the outer screen and you can play music when its closed.

Cons:Small outer screen ringtones hard to hear
the camera is shaky but its a phone so... what do you expect.
micro SD slot is under the battery.
Thats pretty much it go buy it its a great phone and very well built.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I have had this phone for about 10 months now and am starting to have continuous problems. Bluetooth connects/disconnects randomly and phone is overheating. I thought the latter problem was the battery, bought a new one and immediately had the same problem. While appearance is something, performance is everything. If you have a choice, get a different phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
