MetroPCS today announced several promotions meant to entice consumers to ditch their carrier in favor of MetroPCS. For starters, customers who activate a new line on a $40 or higher service plan will receive an extra 1GB of LTE data per month on top of whatever data bucket they choose. The extra 1GB will remain with the line as long as the customer sticks with MetroPCS. Customers who port their number will be eligible for a $50 rebate on a new phone. MetroPCS is also offering a package deal on the LG Leon. MetroPCS is selling the Leon with a month of service (unlimited talk, text, and 1GB of data) for $59 after a mail-in rebate. Today's promotions are available only in stores.

T-Mobile today announced a handful of device and service promotions that will become available over the holiday weekend. To start, T-Mobile is offering a free memory upgrade to buyers of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge. From May 23 through May 25, the 64 GB model will cost the same as the 32 GB model. Customers who buy the 32 GB will receive a $50 Visa gift card. Following their appearance on T-Mobile's web site earlier this month, the company shared pricing details for the LG Stylo and Leon. The Stylo will cost $289.92 at full retail or $12.08 per month and the Leon will cost $149.76 at full retail or $6.24 per month. T-Mobile Prepaid customers can score the Leon for free with an online rebate. T-Mobile-owned MetroPCS will also sell the Stylo and Leon for $199 and $49, respectively, after online rebates. Customers who switch to MetroPCS from a competing carrier will receive a free LG Leon or $50 toward the phone of their choice. Last, MetroPCS is recirculating the 4x100 promotion. Customers can get four lines with unlimited talk, text, and 2 GB of data per line for a total of $100.

T-Mobile recently revealed it will soon sell the LG G Stylo and Leon handsets. The G Stylo features a 5.7-inch 720P HD display and includes a stylus. It also boasts a 13-megapixel camera, quad-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 410 processor with 2 GB RAM, and 16 GB internal storage.

LG today said its new mid-range handsets, the Magna, Spirit, Leon, and Joy, are going on sale in South America. The phones will be made available across Latin America first, but will soon also reach Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and, eventually, North America. So far, none of the major U.S. network operators has voiced support for these phones. Until they do, the devices will only be sold overseas. The phones range from the 4-inch Joy to the 5-inch Magna.

The Magna, Spirit, Leon, and Joy bring LG's high-end design aesthetic to affordable price points. They would do well for both pre-paid and post-paid carriers. Here are our first impressions.

The devices will run Android 5.0 Lollipop with LG's user experience, and are named the Magna, Spirit, Leon, and Joy. Shared features include 1.2GHz quad-core processors with 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage. The Magna and Spirit have LG's rear-positioned button array and a slight curve to them, which LG says helps the devices fit better in the hand. The Leon and Joy are normal slab-style handsets. The devices will be sold in a mix of 3G (HSPA+) and 4G (LTE) configurations. The LTE handsets will have metallic rear covers while the 3G ones will have plastic rear covers.

Magna: The largest of the four handsets has a 5-inch HD display, 8-megapixel main camera, 5-megapixel user-facing camera, and 2,540mAh battery

Spirit: The Spirit has a 4.7-inch HD display, 8-megapixel main camera, 1-megapixel user-facing camera, and 2,100mAh battery.

Leon: The Leon has a 4.5-inch FWVGA display with an 8- or 5-megapixel main camera, a VGA user-facing camera, and a 1,900mAh battery.

Joy: The smallest of the quartet has a 4-inch WVGA display, 5-megapixel main camera, VGA user-facing camera, and a 1,900mAh battery. Some variants may ship with an 4GB of storage, 512MB of RAM, and Android 4.4 rather than Android 5.0.

LG said all four handsets will begin shipping globally to select markets this week. The company did not specify if any of the smartphones will be sold by U.S. network operators.
