Much ado about nothing

Nov 25, 2006 by 1SGL

.

Have we become so techno-jaded that we have come to expect a cell phone to be all things.

I have the Razr V3M (Silver) with Moto H500 Bluetooth headset. I could not be happier.

Unlike some of the younger reviewers who cannot even figure out how to use the spell check function prior to posting I realize that a cell phone in order to have all the functions we have come to expect in a package sized to be convenient has to make compromises.

For pictures I have a digital camera. I do not expect my cell phone to replace it. Therefore I am quite happy with the quality of the one in the cell phone. Quick snapshots when I cannot get to my camera. No YouTube postings via my cell phone.

For digital audio I will continue to rely on my MP3 Player. That I have the ability to play MP3 on my cell phone is a great added benefit but not essential.

For gaming I have my various PS systems (PS3 once the bugs are worked out will join my PS and PS2). I have a cell phone to make phone calls. I having gaming systems for gaming. These must be the people I see either walking or driving in a fog. They are staring fixedly at a small screen playing a game.

For Internet access I have a relatively new piece of equipment called a computer with broadband access. It has a large LCD screen and a full QWERTY keyboard. Works quite well. My cell phone has Mobile Web for when I must check something out while not at home. That works for me.

Considering the size and weight, the features and the price point the Razr V3M is outstanding.

Many of the complaints are service provider oriented. Various tweaks are available to enable features that Motorola provided for the phone but the carrier disabled. Of course tweaking is at your own risk.

Pros: Great compromise to put desired features in a stylish package.

Cons: Only with my carriers disabling of features. Pro: Verizon has best coverage. Another compromise.

Red Razr V3m

Very disappointed in the battery on this phone. I'm having to charge it every night and I've yet to talk more than 45 minutes during the day and that includes about 10 text messages received/sent. Motorola should be ashamed to have put this out with such a poor battery life. I can't imagine this thing going for 200 minutes of talk time (Motorola's claim) without having to be recharged. This phone may be going back to Sprint during the 30-day window to try it.

A credit to Sprint for not disabling the multimedia features to force users to buy ringers and screen savers.

Pros: Able to load or delete your own MP3 ringtones from your computer via a Blue-Tooth file transfer utility.
Can transfer pictures for screen savers and MP2 music files via the SD memory card. Motorola Phone Tools can be used to sync contacts and calender.
Fast Internet access for a phone.
Great signal reception compared to my old Sanyo VM4500.
Great call sound quality.

Cons: It takes multiple programs to customize this phone. One to create/edit ringtones, a Blue-Tooth adapter and file transfer program to move them to the phone, a memory card adapter to be able to copy files to the phones SD memory card which is only accessible by removing the battery, and finally the Motorola Phone Tools using a USB cable to back up your contacts and calender. It would have been easier if Motorola had just left their Phone Tools fully functional.
Side buttons are too easily pressed when opening, causing unwanted activation of features a common happening.
Slow menu response especially when accessing the contacts list.

All in all a very compact, feature loaded phone that is completely customizable without having to pay for every ringtone and screen saver you want to use.

Just what I have been waiting for!

The Sprint version of the RAZR V3M is one heck of a phone. For not having a QVGA screen is no problem what so ever. The screen is rich and very colorful. I am getting better reception on this phone than I ever got with my A900 or Sanyo 9000. My ringers sound loud and clear even louder than on the 9000. I really like the feel of the phone not cheap feeling at all, feels good in the hand. Sound quality is superb! The only draw back I see is no flash for the camera but heck those really don't do anything anyway so it really would be a waste of space. Sprint and Moto you both did a great job with this one! I applaud you both.

RAZR V3M

I traded in my V3c for the V3M today only cuz I love the new deep Fire Red color. Will be buying the extended battery the day it comes out for this color. A RAZR with an extended battery lasts for at least a week with HEAVY talking, so if you are complaining about battery life, you know what to do.
Everything is awesome on this phone.

Great Phone!

I don't understand what everybody is complaining about. This phone is packed with features MP3 player, TV, Satellite Radio, GPS....Honestly what else can you expect from a cell phone. The only thing I can say they should have done better is battery life but everything else is ridiculous. I got the phone from sprint for free off of ebay so I'm not to sure how it's "overpriced". I really enjoy showing this phone off at work to my customers to encourage them to buy sprint and this particular phone really shows what they are capable of doing. So don't pay any attention to these other Nay Sayers this phone is a great buy even though I payed nothing for it.

Great Phone!!

Nov 6, 2006 by Kopeke

ive had this phone for awhile now, so i think its a good time to write a review. The first thing that attracted me to this phone was the color. The silver front and back with black inside makes a GREAT contrast and a attracting look.
Pros:
-reception, just as good as any other moto
-call quaily, one of the best(the best being the E815, of course)
-size and shape. great to hold and even better to store in pockets
-record-able ring tones. another part that totally sold me on this phone. you can record sounds of any kind and set them as ring tones, no more paying verizon!
-screens. both are great, look high res, and i can see them great in direct sunlight.

Cons:
-Verizon UI. stupid red bars, but they grow on you.
-No flash for the camera.
-non recorded ring tones could be louder, but the recorded ones are great.

overall a great phone, and i deff. recommend it to anyone.

MOTOROLA RAZR AMP'D MOBILE EDITION

Oct 26, 2006 by miller27

I'm very impressed with the razr (amp'd edition)
the features are basically the same as the others. slick design, but this verison sports a blackish/grayish keypad, instead of the usual silver keypad. a little difference in the camera and video section, you can't do as much as the other versions as far as the camera is concerned.. the amp'd live content is AMAZING! i never seen so much stuff you can do all in one device. but of course, the fun stuff will wear down you battery pretty quickly. but overall,, great phone.. probably the best phone in AMP"D MOBILE'S lineup.

PROS:
-nice dark silver metallic color
-black keypad
-Amp'd LIVE features and content
-broadband speeds
-internet access
-Amp'd TV and Radio

CONS:
-no vibrate and ring feature
-Amp'd LIVE will run down battery quickly
-no PPT
-speakerphone could be a little louder

All in all, you can't go wrong wit this one!

Was nice till Verizon got there hands on it

Oct 26, 2006 by Justingraziano

I had used an A670 with Verizon for like a year before this and it was nice but not wonderful. Now I got a V3M and I was quite impressed with all the features it has until I found out what it once had. Verizon completely destroyed this phone by putting a very slow, red, and uncustomizable interface on it. In order to get more money they disabled all computer connections via blue tooth and usb except the MP3 player connection which isn't even an MP3 player only plays WMA audio from WMP10 (Verizon's still racis against Mac users probably because there to cheap to get Macs themselfs) so you cant transfer ringtones, videos, pictures, calender, phone book, notepad, etc for free and instead must use there pay services. Of course if you have enough experience you can hack the phone to get all these features back for free but you stil have the ugly red style which looks worse then an analog phones style. Althouh Verizon may have destroyed the Interface they didn't destroy the actual phone (yet). Its still a wonderful looking, stylish, and thin phone with decent battery life. So if you don't mind the Verizon ads (yes I said ads Verizon implants ads into the interface of this phone!), links, and more for there pay services scattered through the phone, ugly red interface, and blocked features maybe you'll like it.

Unfortunately, I fell for the hype

Oct 18, 2006 by highonlithiumx

By the RAZR's popularity and it's sleek and stylish looks, you'd expect an extraordinary phone. Well, look elsewhere. I fell for the hype months ago and have had nothing but problems with this phone. I knew it would be a delicate phone, but I accidentally dropped it on the front side and the glass (if it is glass) covering the camera lens totally shattered and the front scratched up easily.

Pros:
-Small
-Easy to use
-Sleek/stylish
-Not bad UI
-MP3 Sound quality
-Reception

Cons:
-Freezes up often
-Terrible battery life
-Too fragile
-Slow/sluggish
-Slow MP3 player
-Buttons are too close together
-No camera flash
-Never heard of iTap, and I dislike it
-No T9Word
-A little difficult to text
-VERY overpriced

Anyway, this is not the phone to get in any situation. I recommend staying with an LG or a Samsung, preferrably the LG VX8300 or the Samsung SCH A870.

At this moment, I have the LG Chocolate, and I'm having no problems with it and loving it!
