Very good choice

May 3, 2007 by blablablabla

Here is what I have to say about this phone after a few days of use:

Pros:
-Keypad - extremely conveniently laid out and very pretty, with the brushed metal plate and nicely spaced out and very easy to press keys.
-UI - great for my needs. Phone\book and new SMS accessible in 1 click. Most features accessible within 2 clicks, some right away, and some after customizing My Menu. Overall, the nav set up very logically, I did not even need to read the manual to know where to find stuff.
-Cam is pretty good and easy to use. Lack of flash is actually a good thing for me. Too often in low level cameras flash will fire when you do not want it too and ruin the picture. I would rather not have flash at all than have one that is out of control.
-I live in a metro area and signal so far has been great, as well as voice quality.
-I thought I was going to hate the ascending ring. However, it really has grown on me in these past few days. I forgot to put the phone on vibrate at work, and I am vey glad it did not blast off right away when I got the call.
-Fun and useful tool that come with this phone. World clock comes in handy, as well as the unit measures converter.

Cons:
- Hate the shiny part of the casing. None of the online pictures show that there is a shiny plastic part on the front and sides of the phone. It makes it look cheap and smudges too easily. That is probably the only thing I hate in the appearance of this phone, the rest is great.

- Ringtones are awful. I thought I could record something and make it a ringtone, but it does not work, since it records in .amr format, and the ringtone has to be set in .mp3 or .wav . Converting the file to a different type would take transferring it to the PC, which is more than I want to undertake at this point. So, I am stuck with a sucky ringtone - standard cingular chime that is.

I give it 4 stars, because I can't quite get over the shiny plastic....

Great Camera! Great phone!

This phone has a lot of cool features for the very reasonable price.
It's the first HSDPA phone available which makes it ultra fast. The 1.3 megapixel camera has a rotating feature.

Good overall, a few annoyances

This is basically a great phone that has a few simple things that hold it back. Overall the service and reception is great. I encounter much less static and service problems than with my old motorola v551. The volume is considerably better than on the v551. The quality of pictures is decent for 1.3 MP camera but there is probably better out there. Battery life is only fair, but it is new and I have been playing with a bit. I have a 512 MB micro sd card in it and saving things to the card is quick and easy. The bluetooth is fast and works well, it is easy to send files back and forth to your bluetooth enabled computer. One annoying thing is that you cant pick anything except for stock message tones for your message alert. Another is the fact that it doesn't seem to make any noise to alert you of a missed call or voicemail. I don't know about durability yet, but it seems more sturdy than a razor.

My main issue with this phone is with computer sychronization. For all mac users out there this phone will not work with iSync because LG has chosen their own synchronization standards unlike most other companies (motorola, sony...) Sadly LG has also chosen not to make any synchronization software for the macintosh. I have heard that Datapilot from Susteen might work but that is around $45. For this reason this is my first and last LG phone.

GREAT FOR THE RIGHT PERSON

Feb 26, 2007 by myztik16

Right down to business....

PROS-

Feels substantial in your hand, doesn't feel cheap.

Bluetooth!

Rings loud as h*ll, and clear... on level 7, however, the speakers get distorted and sound like the speakers will blow up.

3G is life. So fast.

Ability to access desirable functions from the front screen with touch of a few buttons.

CONS-

Annoying ascending ring you can not turn off.

Crappy screen quality for such a nice phone!

When I have it linked to my car (Acura TL 2005) the car shows no service, but with my Verizon LG VX-9900 aka enV... full service. its frustrating!! Because the phone HAS service, I am TALKING on it, but the car doesn't work right with it. And the enV is newer yet is supported by the car??

Cant download text message tones, and the 10 they give you suck.

Battery life isn't that great. I charge it once every 2 days....using less than an hour of talk time

Text messaging has a lag. drives me crazy... if you're doing predicted text it should be able to handle my fingers (AVERAGE 8000 TEXT+ A MONTH). It doesn't, and it misses characters... :-\ I heart my full QWERTY keyboards.

I find myself asking people "WHAT?" all the time. IT rings loud as hell but the ear piece doesn't get loud enough for me when you're in a call... and they come out of the SAME speaker.

Camera is eh. The image is reversed left to right, and the coloring is horrible.

LOL.. I just read my own review and I guess I really don't like the phone as much as I had thought. I work for Cingular and I am getting my blackjack within the next day or two, which, to be 100% honest, I don't want that either. I don't use the data features, and I just want a simple RAZR V3i... thats whats up for me.

Any questions feel free to msg me :)

blown away,BUT!

GOTCHA! theres no buts about this phone except that i can kick myself 4 not getting it sooner.....
OK here i go with what i think about it,3G is of da hook, killin v-cast easily.Although you have to deal with the buffering while in the middle of a good video.....did i mention GOOD VIDEO!yes this is the phone(4 now)to make me smile when i use it...
all in all its a go getter if your looking 4 pure entertainment in lightning speed downloads and great sound quality,as everyone mentioned the battery life is my biggest concern....P.S. how much do one cost(battery that is)LOL!!! SEE YA..

Def not a low end phone

Feb 22, 2007 by jjgreene

This is a very decent phone if your shopping around for a phone with decent reception, good camera, good data speeds, bluetooth, and a great external display.

CONS:

no voice-dial
Other phones out in price range that beat it
(i.e. V3xx,SYNC)
could be a little thinner

Excellent

I have had the CU-500 since July of 2006. It is a superb phone. I also own the Samsung SGH-A707 phone. Both are 3G phones and I used both of them for wireless internet access over Bluetooth every day (through Cingular). And by the way, there is NO extra cost for doing this. If you have the $20 per month unlimited internet access plan, then you can use your PC to browse the internet using your phone's dial-up-networking.

Anyway, IN MY OPINION, the CU-500 is 1000 times better than the SGH-A707. The A707 drops twice as many calls as the CU-500. The A707's speaker isn't as clear as the CU-500's and the people on the other end of the call sounds 'muddy' in comparison. The A707 is difficult to open with one hand because of the very sleek design. The A707 software is extremely slow and clunky. The A707 is made out of cheap plastic.

I am primarily interested in the functionality of the phone instead of the "kid" features such as the MP3 player and the camera. While I think it is cool to have an MP3 player, I find that I use is 0% of the time. I don't even have an extra memory card because I have no need. But I understand that most consumers like frivolous toy features like this so... the Samsung will appeal more to the general public because of the following reasons:

1. It has a bigger screen.
2. It has an external memory slot

Oh, I also dislike the fact that the A707 charger slot is on the side of the phone instead of the bottom. If you're charging your phone while using it, you can't hold the A707 properly like you can the CU500.

Not interested in the MP3 capabilities... I have an MP3 player.
Not interested in the camera phone... I have a nice camera.

If a company would just put out a business phone just like these two phones... but without the camera and toy features... I would love it... as long as it was as small as these or smaller!

Both phones are great... but the LG wins in my book.

- Wil

A Great Multimedia Phone

Jan 30, 2007 by 2029sc

I have had this phone for about 2 months now and I love it. I was using a Sony Z520i, and that was also a good phone for making calls and thats about it. But not this phone.

PROS:

1. Call quality is good to excellent even with 1-2 bars.

2. 3G, VERY FAST Internet!!. When not in 3G area you will be using the EDGE network, which is pretty fast too.

3. MP3 Player is awesome!! My brother has the new Samsung Blackjack and in my opinion, my phone(CU500) is better and the dual speakers are louder than his. Also has the external controls, VERY convenient.

4. It has a 65,500 TFT color display on the inner and outer screens which are easy to see in sunlight and really bright at night.

5. 1.3MP rotating lens Camera takes REALLY GOOD pictures. Also has Video, Which is also good.

6. Speakerphone is Good. Earpiece volume is Really Loud too. Have to turn down sometimes.

7. Phone is a Good size. Not too small and not too big. Fits nicely in hand.

8. GREAT RECEPTION!! I have yet lost a signal. Even in basements and elevator shafts.

CONS:

1. Battery life could be better. If you use the Internet alot, then you will have to recharge every night. Playing MP3's are not that much drain though.

2. The metal plate heats the phone up. It gets pretty HOT.

3. The external MP3 buttons don't light up. Kind of a drag at night. But not that bad.

4. There is no way to turn of the Ascending ring which kinda SUCKS!

5. Micro SD slot is behind the Battery. So you have to take the battery out to get to it. Kinda of a inconvenience.

Thats about all I can think off. This phone is worth getting. Its the best phone I have had yet. All of the CONS are minor and there is never a perfect phone. This phone rivals almost any phone out there at a fraction of the price. I have had no problems with the phone yet. Just a REALLY GOOD PHONE!!

It could be a real nice phone.

Jan 26, 2007 by rrnelson

I bought 3 of these phones last month through Cingular. The price was right, it has a ton of features, it is slim, and seems to get good reception. I really want to like this phone. Unfortunately they are all going back today.

Pet Peeve: this phone doesn't come with a single thing that I would call a ring tone. It has a dozen or so mp3 clips of bad music. I want something that sounds like a phone ringing. I think this is common in Cingular phones, I assume because they want you to spend money buying ringtones.

The Deal Breaker: Others have mentioned it and it drives me nuts. The volume fluctuates or drops out during phone calls. If you set the volume high enough to hear the quieter parts it blasts your ears when it comes back up to normal. All three phones do it, as well as the demo phones at the Cingular store. I found mention on the web of other people changing some of the internal settings, turn off 3g, etc. tried it all, no change... LG suggested I send it in for 'repair'. I'll send them in, for good though.

Just got this and its great

Jan 20, 2007 by Pulse1273

I just got this as an upgrade to my Razr V3 through my cingular wireless service.

Pros:

Great clear screen

Speaker is the best I have ever heard

the ability to use different wallpaper on internal and external displays

Reception through Cingular is good in tri state area(NY,NJ,CT)

Camera resolution 1280x960 makes for great pics.

The keypad is much easier to use than my previous phone

Cons:

It is a bit narrower than the Razr I have big hands so I prefer a larger phone.

I wish they would have made the back of the phone like the front with the metal razr type material it seems lite in the back.

All in all this is probably the best phone I have ever owned thus far it definitely is full of features (streaming tv, MP3 player with micro sd card slot, gif creator ..etc) especially if you like media fun phones.
