A 840 is GOOD

Nov 9, 2005 by AK47

Very pleased with this phone overall quality is great.

Pros-
*Great reception better that my LG 225
*Color Display is great
*Speakerphone is 3 times better than my LG
*Perfect size

Cons-
*I also agree about the "plasticy" feel of the phone although it wouldn't change my mind to buy the phone.

The only bad part is I am not a sprint fan, even though i am currently with them and sell them at my store in Ohio. But if you happen to be looking for sprint this is a great phone.

Excellent Phone!

This is one of the better phones I've owned from Sprint and certainly the best phone I've used from Samsung.

PROS

**Great reception! I've not dropped a single call and this phone seems to pick up service where my two previous phones could not. (Samsung MM-880 and Sanyo 7400)

**Fantastic earpiece. This is (by far) the best earpiece on any phone I've owned. The sound is crisp and clear whether on speakerphone or placing a regular call with the handset.

**Nice, small form factor. This is a smaller phone, but not too small. It fits nicely in my pocket without weighing me down and yet, isn't so small that I'm uncomfortable using it.

**Nice software features. This particular model offers some unique software for sending postcards and voice SMS. Both seem to work well.

CONS
**The external area by the display is made entirely of shiny plastic, which I'm guessing will scratch easily. Fingerprints show up remarkably well in the same way they do on an iPod.

**The plastic feels a little "cheap," though I've already dropped the phone once and it sustained no damage.

Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase and though I had to drop multimedia content, as the phone does not support it, I'm finding myself so pleased with the voice quality of the phone and great reception, I've not had a second thought.

I had this phone for a year. It just broke Monday. This phone has durable. Ive dropped it, thrown it, and stepped on it. The only bad thing is an occasional echo. I definitely recommend this phone.

The Best phone in he world!

This phone is perfect! It beats the hell out of the Lg Lx150! The only thing I wish was different is the key pads, they are to close together. But otherwise this phone is perfect and I plan to keep it till it cuts out!

Love It

This phone was just replaced with the M500. Didn't go with the 610 because the black/silver colors of the M500 is similar to this phone.

I read all of the reviews and just have to say that most of the cons is not because of the phone but where you live! Dropped calls has nothing to do with the phone. It's based on your service location. I had this phone for a year and can count on one hand the # of dropped calls I had (and I live in an area where there's a lot of trees and telephone poles!). Someone mentioned the lighting on the phone...read the manual before you write up a con review!

As far as the echo...never got that with this phone. I receive an echo when I talk to one specific person which leads me to believe it's not my phone but his!

The only problem I had with the phone was the sound quality. Callers would say my voice clarity really wasn't there. In order for the speakerphone to work, I would have to be right up on the phone. Anything past 12 inches, callers are unable to hear me. Otherwise, the phone served it's purpose.

Not as Bad as Some People Say..

This phone is a great model. The phone isn't so light it feels cheap, it has an internal antenna (which means it won't poke you inside your pocket), The voice sms feature is great as well..One feature that spawned with this phone on the sprint network is the Wireless Backup Support Tool, which has a monthly recurring charge of only $2.99/mo with this feature all of the contacts saved to your mobile phone re uploaded and saved to the sprint website and every time you update it on your phone it updates on the site so when you drop your phone in the toilet cuz you were trying to talk on the phone, brush your teeth, and put on mascara at the same time, you can just download the contacts back to your phone when you get a replacement..This phone is quite durable, i have dropped mine over and over and it still works awesome, no problems...

overall a pretty decent phone.

ive had this phone for about a year now and im pretty satisified with it. its probably not the best phone ever but certainly not the worst.

Pros:
-inside antenna
-flip phone
-picture clarity is good
-doesnt drop calls unless your signal is just crappy
-pretty nifty thing where you can write on your pictures (using postcard)
-speaker phone is clear
-battery life is good
-color display is great
-small&compact

Cons:
-echos sometimes
-hard to hold phone with just your shoulder and chin
-texting is a bit of a pain
-phone freezes up on me sometimes.
-camera is a bit slow.
-no flash on camera
-browser's pretty slow

this phone tends to break easily though, since me and my mom both had to send our phones (we have the same phone) out to samsung to get them fixed. i just dropped mine and all of a sudden friends are telling me that they cant hear me speaking at all. as for my mom, i believe she dropped her phone and then she had the same problem as well.

overall a decent phone. great if you dont need your phone for everything.

Not to bad.

I got this phone to replace my SPH-A620 under Sprints warranty plan. I was hoping to spend a little extra money and get a better phone but was pleasantly surprised with the PM-A840.

Pros
Much lighter then my old phone.
Had all the features of my A620
Internal Antenna (my external antennas always break)
Speaker Phone
Excellent voice recognition feature.
Good texting abilities
Battery life is decent

Cons
"Say a command" I rarely get a case for my phones and keep them in my pocket. If I move the wrong way the VR kicks in and out of no where everyone can hear "Say a command" and I end up having to explain geeky technology to people who don't care.

The outside display is not color. A little bit of a disappointment but I got used to it.

Camera is nothing special.

Not bad for what it is.

Totally Disappointed

I initially bought this phone because it was relatively inexpensive as a replacement phone. My friend has the same phone and has the same technical issues that I have.

Cons:
*extremely difficult to charge (due to charger not staying in place)
*echo
*cuts off by itself
*drops calls
*speaker phone is TERRIBLE-- people can never hear me

This is honestly the worst cell phone that I have ever had. I've had other Samsung phones that were great, but I'm very unhappy with this one. I'd get a new phone if I weren't under contract. Even though this phone may be a bargain, don't buy it!
