Nokia 8801, the truth revealed

Jan 14, 2007 by deadspoogi

Hi, i just got this phone, bought it a retail store. Paid about $400.

Honestly, the phone is rare, popular, and barely anyone has it, because of its dramatic price. Although, the phone is envied by many. I was walking in New York City, and a couple of people stared walking, and talking about the phone that i had out. It was a great feeling. People who dont even know what the phone is, compliment me on the phone. The phone it self has horrible feautures, except the cute camera and video options. Usb cable isnt compatible with the phone, youll need a bluetooth purchase for your pc to transfer any files.

phone is heavy, and looks perfect.

8801 is Good

Just got this unit on STEEP discount from T-Mob.
Overall I would say the phone is quality. It feels great in your hand and feels like it will hold up over time.
As noted in many reviews, this mobile is NOT a technological juggernaut. It IS a great phone for calls plus a little more. Symbian 40 lets you customize and is very stable.
Alot of posters have noted the battery life as a negative. While I agree the battery life leaves something to be desired, one must take this with a grain of salt as the batteries are so friggin small. They're the size of a book of matches - no wonder they don't last for two weeks.
Overall, this is another quality Nokia product that I will hopefully enjoy for a while.

Great, best phone I've owned

I was very excited to get my unlocked 8801 in the mail after picking it up for less than 400 on the net. When I got the phone I was so pumped that I wanted to give a review right away and say how sweet it was. But I decided to give it a good month and now I can give my official opinion.
First I switched from a razr to this phone. The main difference is the weight. The size is perfect. Its smaller than it looks in pictures. Almost as thin as the Razr. The weight is a little heavier, but not bothersome. It just feels solid and quality, which it is. This phone is absolutely stunning. The screen is so clean and crisp, I've never seen a screen on a phone so nice. the backlight of screen and keys fades in and out which I thought just fits the phone.
Alot of people complain that the keys are too small. I don't seem to have any problems hitting them and they are nice and crisp. The slide function is great and very precisely fits the screen to the bottom stainless cover. Most people can't even figure out how to open it at first. ALSO YOU CAN ANSWER AND END A CALL WITHOUT OPENING THE PHONE. Great feature. Bluetooth is great. I have an unlocked version with a cingular Sim and have already loaded music, backgrounds, and ring tones on this baby, quickly and easily with PC. Alot of people complain about the rings, but it is so easy to design your own and load them up wirelessly, that I have no complaints with them. The ringer is loud and speaker phone great. the wired headset that is included is actually quite nice and I use it as much as my bluetooth. the user interface is great, I love how it is set up and it is VERY customizable. you can change just about everything in this thing to the way you want it.
only con is earpeice rattles sometimes and could use a little more memory. Batteries are not a problem, it comes with two and lasts just as long as my razr did.desk charger is the bomb. this thing is first class and well worth the money. Service with Cingular is excellent.

All Things Considered...

I did an enormous amount of research before I plunked down the $500. I read every single entry on this forum, plus alot of the other online discussions about the 8801. I've had my phone 6 days now, and it's actually grown on me since the first night I had it.

PROS: Build quality, sound clarity, EDGE, stainless steel finish, scratch-resistant screen, box it comes in, elegant style.

CONS: Battery door cover, 28 steps to get to what you want, limited ring tone options, very short backlight without the option of a timer, stupid selection of wallpapers.

The CONS I mentioned drive me nuts!!!!! One more CON; to send a video it must be 5 seconds or less, otherwise you get this error message! The Motorola phones are much more user-friendly, but I really like this phone. Oh yeah, it froze on me a couple of times, so I'm sending it back for a replacement. I'm definitely keeping this 8801, at least until T-Mobile comes out with a better one.

Hello, my name is Oleksandr Kuznetsov and I would like to say that I am a proud fan of NOKIA company. I am huge fan not becasue it's European brand, but because of quality of he NOKIA devices itself.
So I bought this NOKIA 8801 unlocked. This is the most beautiful mobile phone.
The phone has the highest build quality of all phones that exist in the world!
I have no complanes at all about this mobile phone.

Ofcource this phone is only for people that know what they style is and this phone can do only phone calls ans SMS that is it.

Nokia is always best on quality!!!

This phone is a great, sleek phone. I have no clue why people are comparing it to the V3 Razr. Here's the other thing no one seems to understand. Your call quality/reception is mainly based off of your service provider. The company I work for works better with Nokia's than with Motorola's. With this in mind, some Nokia's get better reception than others, but for the most part, it's about the same. This phone also has bluetooth, so getting ring tones is not a big deal if your good with computers. The Razr is thin, but open it up and look at the screen...it's not the most advanced technology out there. This phone has the features/looks (inside and out). The price these days is about $350 on eBay. And if you complain about the price, than maybe you should consider what you want, cause you won't get a phone with all the features for much less and with this much quality.

Shop Around - Price is Low and Quality is High

Just got my phone for about $400 dollars (including shipping), and I have to say, one of the better phone investments I've made.

Pros:
Solid design, quality feel
Clean menus
Clear calls
Good reception

Cons:
Looks like my web interface needs some setup before I can browse WAP sites, somewhat confused there but sure I'll figure it out.
Low Quality Camera - in a phone like this, I did expect 1.3 megapixel or greater.
Tiny Buttons

I really want to give this phone the five stars it deserves for style alone, but the cons (buttons and camera) do hold it back for a phone in this price range unless you get a nice deal like I did on it. Overall, I'm very impressed with the phone.

Also for those who complain about in call volume, if you press the left/right navi buttons during a call, you raise/lower the volume. Out of the box, it's set at halfway, definitely not loud enough for any situation I'm usually in.

All in all, I recommend it to the business professional (that doesn't need a smartphone), those who promote style over features, and those who have the cash.

Oh, btw, my phone came in one stylish box. I'm very impressed by the sheer overall beauty and style.

Nokia 8801 (stunning looks)

Ok, as you all know the nokia 8800 series is a beautiful phone. offered in 2 bands 900 or 850 plus 1800/1900, and four models, 8800 silver, 8801 silver, 8800 gunmetal/ 8800 black, and special 8800 gold edition.
Since i have cingular i purchased the 8801
Let me tell you right of the batt, when u take it out of the box, its beautiful, everything is so stunning, right down to the BLUE glowing desk charger.
Basic Review
Pro:
Stunning Design
850 mhz
Awesome Dual action charger
Secondary Battery FREE
Powerful Slider hinge
Clear, crisp, and beautful screen
Stainless Steel
Cons:
-(This may just be my device) i'm curious if this happens to anyone else, it crashes EVERY OTHER TEXT MESSAGE, seriously, it will just stop and go to a blank screen, its so frustrating.
-Battery life makes a digital camera look good.
-Fear over dropping the phone or scuffing it. ( like any highend fashion phone, not to praticical, have to be extra cautious)
-VGA camera makes kindergarders crayon pictures look Hi-res
- FINGERPRINTS
-Media player with only 64 mb of memory
-Crappy speakerphone
Basically, if you want a beautiful phone, that turns heads, and preforms BASIC phone feautres FM radio, storage for a few basic tunes, and some crappy pictures, its a great phone. sure its a spawn of any other series 40 phone. but its a spawn of any other series 40 phone in a beautiful body. if you love the "oooo shiny factor" and arent stupid enough that you would stoop to the level of the chocolate. the nokia 8801 is a head turner, feels great to own. but since i have that ever annoying shut on and off system running on it, i cant say to much more positive

The Price is High and the Performince Is Low

Jul 14, 2006 by sidekicklover

I Love Cell phones I own about 30 of them, and still counting becouse my collection is getting fuller and fuller by the every other week

I have recently bought this phone becouse of the Cool sleek design of Stainless Steel, and i geuss i was just exspecting more! For one thing the screen is extra tiny, the camera is so poor and dose not suply a flash, it is a nokia and i am NOT a nokia fan and also is is prced way to high than it should be, this phone reminds me of one of the first color phones to come out of the market, it is not so good. I am not bashing T-mobile or Nokia i am bashing this software and the screen. I dotn like it! I purchsed it becouse of all the hype in the new issue of Rolling Stones Magazine with the Chilies peppers on the front and also, it is featured in Jamie Fox's video. I also resaerched it on Safari and in found intres, but now i regret I bought this worthless machine of steel.

:)
