Nokia 6102/ Cingular

Sep 26, 2005 by bnz300

This phone is no longer "tentative" for Cingular. It is being advertised nationwide. Pro: It's a good "clamshell', with an acceptable camera, good battery life, and talk time. Bluetooth would be nice, especially in a business setting. The speakerphone seems to work well.

Con: The stub antenna can get caught in your pocket.
No Bluetooth as I mentioned.

Back It Goes

With the volume control set at the highest level I cannot clearly hear the person on the other end of the call. This is true for both the ear piece and the loudspeaker. The volume is inadequate and the sound tinny. The other party has no problem hearing me. I have a family plan with 3 phones. All 3 of them had the same flaw.

Pros

Clear and easily readable mini and main screen. Great camera. Many multimedia features, USB port. Ease of operation. My Shortcuts feature. Nice looking clamshell design, good size and weight. Triband.

Cons

Lacks Autoanswer feature with headset. Poor manual--e.g no index entries for loudspeaker or ringer volume.

The fatal flaw is inability to clearly hear the other party. It is considerably inferior to my old Nokia 3395 in volume and sound quality. I had been looking forward to this phone. I picked it up on Friday but will return it Monday. My guess is that Nokia will eventually fix the reception problem. If you are thinking of getting this phone, wait until they do.

Here's why the low call volume

Mar 10, 2006 by dcrandon

Just to let people know, the reason for the scattered complaints about call volume (on the 6101/6102 as well) is because the earpiece has a single tiny little pinhole opening for the speaker. Most phones have much bigger and widely spaced openings.

This single pinhole opening will frequently be pressed against the folds in the pinna of your ear, therefore the hole plugged up and you can't hear. I had to constantly be repositioning the phone against my ear to hear.

It's extremely variable from one person to another.

This is why I had to return the phone.

i got this phone like in November
and since then i loved it!
it takes great pictures and ok pictures
its also very easy to use
sadly, it fell into a huge puddle of water and never worked again like a month ago
but still i suggest that if your thinking of buying it DO SO
pros:
great camera
ok video clips
nice weight and size

but of coarse there as to be cons....
very little memory with no memory slot
and well i thinks thats the only thing that bothered me
i still miss it and this new phone i got, SE z520a its ok but never as good as this one (you can read my review...as soon as i make it)

Not so good

Really Nokia is getting cheaper and cheaper, probably one of the baddest phone they had made. the worst thing about it is the sound... the speakerphone is bad, ringtune souds really bad at high volume, when you answer a call, those who calls you always hear a buzz before you talk, and their voice sound pretty metalic. another deception is the suspect durability of that modele, when you open or close the flip, you really can hear the plastic noise!!! also basic quality screen like any other Nokia, but the battery is not as good as what where use with them.
Buy something else, trust me.

What a waste

I got this phone because my Nokia 3560 was outdated. This phone has all the features, but they appear to be basic phone quality. In order to use the camera, you must go through about 4 steps. By the time you get to the camera, the picture moment is gone. The speaker phone volume is so low that you'd be better off putting a cup out the window and yelling to the other person. Yes, it has an FM radio, but it sounds awful. At first, I thought I was being too critical because I was so use to my old phone. But when i saw other people with camera phones and you push 1 button to take a picture I felt stupid. I had paid almost $200 for a generic phone. I took it back and will not have a phone until I can do more research on another one. One lesson learned, new may not always be the answer. Now that I see the reviews, I know it is not just me.

Terrible Memory

Jan 30, 2006 by jm2323

I have tried to purchase Nokia's since I started using wireless phones about 10 years ago. The Nokia 6101's memory is just plain bad. Currently I have no ringtones, 3 pictures, and no wallpapers, and I am still not allowed to take any photos due to lack of memory. If you are considering buying this phone, keep in mind that with its poor memory, you'll only be able to have 1 or 2 rinbgtones and 1 or 2 pictures if you want to be able to take photos and use your internet. If you have any more, the phone will simply say memory full and shut down your application. TERRIBLE phone, do not buy!

Sound not loud? Ringer is distorted? Then it deserves 0.0 scroe!

Sep 24, 2005 by mike78nycc

First of all I'm glad that we have 0 score here, because if the phone's basic function is not working properly then it certainly deserves 0.00 !

As other people have noticed, the sound quality on this phone is not clear, not loud and the ringer gets dirtored if set up to a high level.

What's up with american market?
Why Can't T-Mobile market Nokia 6170 or 7270 phones? Why the cheapest Nokia (6101) which still costs $200 ! ( rediculous price) cannot provide a decent sound quality!

American cellular market, now I see 100$ clearly, gets the cheapest phone models of any Brand, whether it is Nokia or Samsung, or Sony or others....

PROS:
None!

Cons:
-Horrible sound quality
That's enough for now!
Just due to sound quality any phone deserves 0.0 ! ( if it doesn't have a decent sound).

ALL I CAN SUGGEST, IS KEEP BUYING european Nokia models for a sky rocking price ( at least those phones proved to be more durable in general!)

Flimsy

Jan 23, 2006 by Devcon1234

I just got the Nokia 6102 three days ago. In only 3 days time, the key pad froze,,,, the screen froze and the flip part feels like its going to break off. This phone is so flimsy! I returned this phone back to the store before it even had a chance to run out of batteries.

nokia 6101 sucks

Jan 22, 2006 by scott513

My fiance bought a 6101 as an upgrade from her Sony ericson and was told that it would have the best reception possible (they lied) we had problems with the first one with the ring-tones (realtrax) sounding to disorted so we sent it in to get fixed, we got it back in a week (it was a new phone not the one we sent back) and now the ring-tone sounds more disorted and now her reception is terrible. Now they want us to bring it back to the store and get a new one and pay the difference, hahahaha no way we aint paying more money for a new phone when they screwed up in the first place. there isnt much pro's with this phone except it's a flip phone and ummmmmmm nothing else. The con's on the other hand are bad reception, distorted ring tones, and well thats the two biggest things and thats cause enough to not wanna buy one off these phones again. All of theses problems are from Rogers Canada (Winnipeg)
