Great phone, Nokia does it again!

Aug 4, 2006 by himurajubei

My wife had purchased this phone back in November (2005) and she has put this phone through hell... and it has survived! The 6101 is very easy to use and gets a great signal! However, if your looking for a phone that has all the bells and whistles, you might be disapointed. Yes, it does have a camera and can use MP3 ringtones (called RealTrax with Rogers) but the video is a bit choppy, the camera is VGA and there is no BlueTooth. All that aside, this is a very solid phone. If you want a cell phone that works great a cell phone, this is the one!

Pros:
- Durable
- Easy to use
- Simple button interface
- Excelent reception

Cons:
- No BlueTooth
- VGA Camera (0.3 Megapixals)
- Video fps is not great

Nokia hasn't disappointed me yet!!!

I carry this phone too because I enjoy switching out my phones all the time. This phone has great reception and wonderful features.

PROS:

Small
Good LCD screens
Takes extremely clear pictures with the camera!!
MP3 ringtones
Great reception on our network!!
Great speakerphone reception!!

CONS:

I have noticed the external CID is delicate and will crack easily if you hit it up against something..be careful!!
Not bluetooth though...

Way too delicate

This phone has good features but I had one major problem with it.

Two different phones, the same model, broke on me, each after less than three months of use. The inner and outer screen first started to show brown spots and then became distorted and unreadable. This exact thing happeend to me twice. I don't know what caused the problem but after going through this twice, I am ready for a new phone.

so good so far!

I've had this phone for about 2 months and so far its working out well. i like the video recorder and that i can make my own ring tones because sometimes they don't have the part of the song id like to hear. i did have a problem with the ear buds. i bought a jabra boom ear bud and being very gentle with it it still gave out after a month and a week, so i wanted to get another and its hard to find an ear bud with this style i think its all nokia phones. my second ear bud from jabra gave out too i decided to get a converter and a cheap ear bud and it worked!

pros:
its cute and small
you can play the games and talk at the same time!
not a bunch of buttons that force you on the Internet

cons:
just the ear bud port. i wish it was universal.

Love my Nokia!

I really do love this phone the sound is loud. I can hear everyone on the phone well. It is small. The battery life is great. The signal strength overall is good.

The cons:
It needs more memory. That's about it. Nokia you got me back as a customer.

High Quality-Good Fun

Jun 10, 2006 by doktorAvalanche

I have had this phone for about 3 months now and i have to say i am impressed.

Not only is the call quality great but it's got alot of really fun features.

I live in Medford, NY and my service provider is T-mobile. I have had other T-mobile phones in the past and I have found that this phone has had fewer dropped calls and overall better reception. (the service in my area has not changed since I had the other phones)

Pro's:

Great Call Quality.

Loud Ringer.

Infra-red allows you to beam pictures to other Infra-red capable phones and allows you to develop your pictures at any infra-red capable photo machine(most places that develop pictures have one.)

Can be personalized using many shortcut keys, voice commands, and voice dialing making it easier and more fun to use.
Voice Dialing and Voice Commands can be personalized so that when i call my girlfriend i say to the phone "mi amor" and when i want the radio on i say "musica por favor!) You can make it anything you want in any language.

External Picture Caller ID with name.

Good camera with quality settings to save space and a camcorder as well.

Voice Recorder allows you to not only leave yourself reminders but also to make your own personal ringtones (record songs from your stereo or perhaps your own accapella renditions of popular tunes or any kind of silliness you like)

Can send and receive multimedia messages including pictures, voice clips, or video clips.

Alarm Clock can have personalized message so you can tell the phone to specifically remind you of something at a certain time.

Cons:

Speakerphone is not that loud.

Before personalizing the phone some simple features are a few menus deep.

Menu's can be a little sluggish

Doesn't have Bluetooth (6103 does :))

Overall this is probably the best phone i've ever owned. I recommend it to all of my customers because of the call quality and the fun things it can do.

Excellent Phone

Jun 10, 2006 by mikes63737

I am currently using this phone on a T-Mobile To Go plan. This was not my first choice for a phone, but they wanted $300 for the Moto v360. I got it for $130 at Target.

Pros:
*Camera better than most camera phones.
*Integrated FM radio.
*LOUD ringtones
*Small
*Great Battery Life
*Color External Screen
*Both screens can be read in direct sunlight easily.
*Can vibrate and ring at the same time.

Cons:
*Finish picks up fingerprints really easily
*Weird wallpaper issue

I have compared the camera to my friends' camera phones, and there isn't a contest. This one easily wins. The battery lasted me one full day of heavy use (4 PM to 4 PM) and the battery isn't dead yet.

I have a weird wallpaper problem that some people on other websites have been having - wallpapers will not fill up the screen (unless they are either included with the phone, downloaded from t-zones, or taken with the camera) and they will leave an ugly white border.

Overall, despite the small problems, this is an excellent phone, and an excellent upgrade from a Samsung X475.

this phone SUCKS

i have the nokia 6101 with t-mobile, and i hate the phone. I've had it since December and I've had several problems with it, besides the minor annoyances.

PROS:
-looks good
-easy to customize
-speakerphone
-decent camera quality

CONS:
-my phone has frozen on occasion
-randomly locks itself and prompts me for a password (i have to restart the phone to fix this)
-volume doesn't get high enough
-not enough memory
-when on silent, sometimes doesn't vibrate to alert me of calls and text messages
-randomly disconnects from calls
-slow response
-sometimes won't place a call
-the phone seems flimsy, each time i drop it I'm afraid its going to break

i would not recommend this phone, sometimes it works fine, but overall it drives me crazy

The sound is too soft!

May 26, 2006 by another_nomad

Most positive reviews here sound made up. They probably came from Nokia sellers or something. All I can say is, as most of the people who gave negative reviews here, whether you change the Auto-volume-control to "on" or "off", the sound is still too soft.

Good but some problems

May 15, 2006 by 4evermom

I do like this phone, especially after the last couple phones that I've had. I have had this phone, 6101, for about 4 months. I have two main complaints.

1. The very small memory -
Compared to all the phones I've had, this has the smallest memory. I like to download phone ringers, especially hifi. On my past phones I could download as many as I want, but on this phone I can only have about 5 at a time. That is only after I have deleted all the ringers, games, etc. that the phone came with.

2. The phone often turns itself off -
On just a recent day it had turned itself off at least 6 times. The phone is fully charged, no abuse, etc. I complained to my provider and after troubleshooting they sent me a new battery. With the new battery the phone worked fine for a while and then the problem started happening again. I have complainded again to my provider, and after troubleshooting they have offered to replace the same phone or I can buy a different phone (at full price).

I am trying to make my decision.
