Going back to my VX7000

Jul 22, 2005 by Sumner

The 8000 had some neat things in it like speakerphone and VCAST. The 8100 added bluetooth and exp mem.

so what.

its still a horrible phone. seems like LG has been going down since the VX7000 (a revolutionary phone in my opinion).

the 8100 comes with almost no mem onboard. reception blows. speakerphone blows. no MP3 player and i'm supposed to believe like evey other dork on here that VZ will eventually make it work? yea right. bluetooth is restricted (like all other VZ phones, oh except for the moto E815).

for the HUGE PRICE, this phone is just pure junk. returning it and going back to my VX7000 until October when i get my NE2 and purchasing the moto E815.

You paid how much for retail???

Jul 23, 2005 by daddypkn

If you are going to pay retail, the cost of the phone is $580 including the memory card. NO THANKS.
Bluetooth is crippled, many Internet sites are blocked and scrolling is terrible, the screens that come with the phone are no more than V advertisements, the camera is cloudy at best and takes forever to cycle. The reception is one less bar everywhere my "good old" Samsung 530. The volume does fluctuate, do not listen about changing the settings as that works only for a little while if at all.
What's that? Did I hear you say it does not even come with a holster and you have to buy one, but no one carries it for another $19.99????
Cannot access mail except the big 5, Vcast takes forever and you have to click at least three or four settings to see a blip from ESPN that is not even the top story.
I just returned my second one today as there were so many defects in the first, the crew just threw their hands up.
They then, were so inconvenienced that I asked again if they had transferred my phone book, sorry to bother you guys while I am spending almost $600 so I can answer my phone in my car hands free but little more.
I have my contract coming up in March by then, they will have worked all the kinks out and the MP3 player might actually work. I paid for an MP3 player didn't I? Did I get one? Thanks but no thanks! I gave it a one for effort by LG certainly not Verizon.
Would someone please disagree with this with some substance so I can learn something, please.

All bark and no bite

I previously owned the VX6000 and was somewhat satisfied with the phone but I needed bluetooth. At first I was waiting for the E815 until I heard LG was coming out with the 8100. I made the mistake of ignoring the numerous warnings about the ear-piece volume.

Well my phone arrived three days ago and I just exchanged it for the E815. The bottom line? I'm a consultant and I use my phone primarily for business. I simply cannot tolerate the ear-piece volume issue. It is a very seriously problem.

The reason I rate this phone so low is because I can't understand for the life of me why LG would put so much into all of the extra bells and whistles and neglect the most important thing, the cell phone part. Even on high the volume is way too low and randomly goes up and down. A cell phone is first a cell phone before anything else. All of the other extras simply don't matter if it does not function well as a cell phone.

BTW, I adjusted the auto volume and privacy settings as suggested in other forums but it did not solve the problem.

I'm going to keep the 815 before I do a full review on it but so far there is absolutely no comparison in reception.

great but not so great

This phone is an ok phone it has some nice features. the only real reason to buy this phone over others is the speakers are very loud one of the clearest sounding spearkers i have heard next to the lg 535

I really wanted to give this phone a good review. Really I did. But no amount of hype can save this phone. It is plain pitiful.

bad camera
jerky interface
horrible sound
below average reception
horrible charger port

good display
good side buttons

I would go with the 815 instead. Much better phone.

Check into a clinic if you think the 8100 is better then the 815

Jul 24, 2005 by ferndog

Look, I won't get to fancy for you but here it is. Tell me and lets be serious here. What does the 8100 do better then the 815 as a phone? Justify the extra $150.00 to me, please. No one in Howards can give me an answer for that and I regard Howards as the King of cellphone reviewers. That forum has users that are very much educated on whats good and whats bad. And please, no childish feedback like whats posted in the Phonescoop forums. Lets forget about the cute little ringtones, MP3 music and extra junk that you don't need and start giving some thoghtful educated reviews or reason regarding the above question.

unacceptable

honestly,, i waited six months for this phones release, and was utterly dissapointed. ironically, the phone has a great cam and video recorder, but what good does that gadgetry do you, when the earpiece volume is just simply too low, and even worse, fluctuates in volume...i actually went through two of the phones, hoping i had a defect, but it wasnt the case...trust me folks, im being very generous giving this phone a three....earpiece volume and clarity are not to be sacrificed....the e815 by motorola is no picnic either, but still i give that a 3.5 based on the fact that the earpiece volume and clarity is fantastic, but motorola had the nerve to put a cam and video in it, that are simply unusable...and yes technology has come to a point that cameras are usable on a phone, so dont bother replying to me that a phone should be used as a camera...just compare the 8100 camera and the 815 camera, and youll see that when motorola stamped the 815 to have a 1.3 megapix they were lyyyyinnnnggggg... so now im just waiting patiently for the samsung sch a970.. hurry up verizon, the natives are getting restless......

terrible

Aug 9, 2005 by George2384

After having a LG VX6000 and loving it, the time was right to get a new phone cuz of all the wear and tear I gave this phone. I thouroughly researched all the Verizon phones, and decided on VX-8100 since I received a new every two discount. Well, the dissapointments started there. After only half a day, the call quality was terrible, the voice faded in and out every phone call I had. Interestingly enough, I wanted a phone that i could TALK and LISTEN to normally. Then, I tried the VCAST, I played a clip for about 1 minute and the phone froze on me. Then it didn't want to turn on. Tried it again....same thing. One more time...no luck. Forget this, I went and changed the phone to a motorola E815, hopefully it's better than this.

I OWN THIS AND A 815 AND THIS PHONE IS NOT GREAT!

PROS-
GOOD CAMERA
VOLUME
LG QUALITY
TEXT READING ON FRONT (WITH T-9)
MENU STYLE
SOUND QUALITY

CONS:
BATTERY LIFE IS THE WORST!!!
SOUND IS GOOD, BUT SPEAKERS GO BAD EASY
DURABILTY-LG SCRACHES WAY TOO EASY!!!
LOOK OF PHONE (TEAL NOT BEST FOR HIGH END PHONE)
RECEPTION (MOTO 815 WORKS WHERE LG DOESN'T)
PAINT/FINISH/HOUSING QUALITY
BACK COMES OFF TOO EASY

OVERALL GOOD PHONE BY NO MEANS GREAT AT ALL!! GET A DIFFERENT ONE!! OR WAIT FOR THE 8300!!!
